Earn Valentine’s Points and AAdvantage Miles with Spa Treatments, Chocolates, Flowers, and Dinner

Posted on: February 13th, 2012 by: aadvantagegeek

The Economics of Valentines Day

Valentine’s Day is big business. According to this graphic from OnlineMBA, Americans will spend almost $6 billion on flowers, dinner, and candy.

It’s also great opportunity to earn some AAdvantage Miles. Here are are few ideas to help you do that.

Dinner

I almost missed this promotion, but fortunately Michael W Travels spotted it: AAdvantage Dining is offering a Get Ahead Bonus.  After spending $75 and earning 1 mile per dollar between now and the end of March, you’ll be able to earn 2 miles per dollar through the end of April.  So take your Valentine out to dinner, and you’ll be earning twice them miles for the next couple of months.  Full details here.

If you haven’t signed up for AAdvantage Dining, the Weekly Flyer over at Points, Miles & Martinis tells you how to earn a 1,500 AAdvantage Miles signup bonus.

Chocolates

If you want to give the gift of Chocolate, order from Harry & David and AAdvantage eShopping and earn up to a 20% discount and 6 AAdvantage Miles per dollar.   Get your order in by 1PM EST and still get it delivered tomorrow.  Go here for more info.

Flowers

Flowers may be the least useful of gifts, but they earn the most miles. Order from FTD and receive 30 AAdvantage Miles per dollar.  Use your Citi AAdvantage credit card an earn an extra 300 miles.

Spa Treatments

Pamper your Valentine with a spa treatment gift certificate from SpaFinder.   Certificates are accepted at more than 5,000 spas.  Order today from SpaFinder and AAdvantage eShopping and receive the gift certificate by email and earn 3 AAdvantage Miles per dollar.

Here’s some other Valentine’s Day news:

Here’s an item from PAK’s JAL Blog:  If you’re departing from Narita on JAL tomorrow, the first 1,000 male passengers will receive Valentine’s Day chocolates.

Also on the subject of Valentine’s and Japan, Hooters has teamed up with Hello Kitty to offer the first 1,000 couples dining at their Tokyo location a commemorative pin depicting Hello Kitty pin.

I’m not sure which is worse: Taking your Valentine’s date to Hooters, or Hello Kitty dressed as a Hooter’s waitress.

Shop online for gift cards and earn AAdvantage Miles

Posted on: November 28th, 2011 by: aadvantagegeek

Editor’s note: If you missed the news, AAdvantage has a new Google Plus page.

As a child one of the highlights of the holiday was the annual arrival of the Sears Wish Book catalog.  I would study every little detail of toy section: the descriptions and the photos.

The greatest edition ever may have been the 1978 Wish Book.  That was the year that Sears offered every single Star Wars action figure including the secondary characters like Hammerhead, Snaggletooth, and Greedo.   It was also the year that they sold the Star Wars Death Star Play Set.

As far as I’m concerned, shopping hasn’t been as much fun since.

How can anything that you might find at Macy’s or Bed, Bath & Beyond, or even Neiman Marcus compare to these items from the 1972 Wish Book:

YouTube Preview Image

I’ve never been one to enjoy shopping.  Especially at this time of year.  Some people develop strategies for holiday shopping, I develop some for avoiding it, and gift cards are key to my shopping avoidance system.

A way for to me to do all my gift card shopping at once and earn miles is to use GiftCertificates.com, one the AAdvantage eShopping retailers.

GiftCertificates.com offers gift cards to just about every retailer I know of and you’ll earn 3 miles per dollar.

To earn the miles you have to be a member of AAdvantage eShopping (free) and navigate to GiftCertificates.com from the link provided at the AAdvantage eShopping Mall.

Go here for more info.

If you’re interested in a little retro shopping, go here WishBookWeb to see more catalogs form 60s, 70s and 80s.

I think my earliest memories of Christmas go back to the year I asked for and received these toys from the the 1971 Wish Book. The T-Rex may have been one of my all time favorites:

From the 1971 Sears Wish Book
From the catalog description:

You can stage the meeting of 2 of the most fiercest dinosaurs that ever walked the earth. Push the remote control button…they walk forward or backward!

Tyrannosaurus: $2.99
Triceratops: $2.99

Speaking of 1971, that was also the year that my little sister arrived.   I doubt that she reads my blog very often (she thinks miles are boring) but just in case:

Happy Birthday Robin!!

A Weekend Update: Hyatt 1,500 AAdvantage Miles offer, the Verizon Cartera eShopping fiasco, Citibank checking offer

Earn Up To 15,000 AAdvantage Miles With Hyatt

Not sure how I missed this offer last week, but this weekend I was getting caught up on offers at Deals We Like and learned about a new promotion from Hyatt Hotels:

• Pay an Eligible Rate during each stay

Go here to learn more.

AAdvantage eShopping Verizon Update

By now you’ve probably read about the Verizon AAdvantage Shopping Mall 83,000 miles from Cartera Commerce offer that turned out to be too good to be true.  If you submitted a claim for the bonus miles Cartera offered as an apology, be on the lookout for your miles. The Points Addict reports that his 5,000 AAdvantage Miles just posted.  My brother purchased one of the Palm charging stations too, and Saturday he mentioned to me that his miles posted last week as well.  If you don’t see your miles soon, you might want to contact AAdvantage Shopping customer service.

Citibank 23,500 Bonus AAdvantage Miles Checking Account Offer

Darren over at Frequently Flying wrote about a targeted promotion he received from Citibank offering up to 23,500 AAdvantage Miles for opening a checking account.  It appears that his offer is aimed at Citi AAdvantage credit card customers, so if you’re a cardholder and you’re interested (despite some possibly hefty monthly account fees and the fact they they are eliminating their AAdvantage debit card), don’t shred your junk mail from Citi without reading it.  Go here for more details.

In Other News:

Just in case you stayed away from your computer this weekend, here are a few items you might have missed:

Gary from View from the Wing wrote a very interesting post this weekend: Why The Tax Code Encourages American Airlines to Award Bonus Miles for Checking Bags in Boston

Plane and Simple has some oneworld member news: Iberia to launch Iberia Express for its short and medium haul routes.

Speaking of Iberia, Aviation Week reports that the airline has announced a plan to upgrade the cabins on their 17 Airbus A340-600s. Read all about it here.

How a seat to a baseball game can take you places. Earn AAdvantage Miles when you buy Concert and Sporting Event Tickets

Posted on: July 12th, 2011 by: aadvantagegeek

Texas Rangers Game
“Texas Rangers Game” Photo credit: James Fleeting

I needed to order a custom T-Shirt for a birthday gift so I went the AAdvantage eShopping website to see who was offering more miles, CafePress or Zazzle (Zazzle with 10 miles per dollar versus CafePress with 8 miles per dollar). While I was on the site, I spent a little time browsing to see if there were any new offers and noticed that there was a sub-catagory for Concerts and Sporting Events listed within the Entertainment section.

I have a friend coming to town at the end of the month and we usually go to a Texas Rangers baseball game when he visits. I never thought about checking the AAdvantage eShopping site to see if there were any participating ticket brokers, but as it turns out, there are two retailers that sell tickets: TicketLiquidator and TicketsNow.com.

At both sites, you’ll find tickets to college and professional sporting events, concerts big and small, even theatre tickets. I was able to find Rangers tickets on both as well.

TicketLiquidator offers 6 AAdvantage Miles for each dollar you spend and they have more tickets to more events, but they’re also more expensive. TicketsNow.com offers tickets to fewer events and venues, and they offer 5 AAdvantage Miles for each dollar you spend, but they’re also cheaper.

TicketsNow.com had Rangers tickets for as little as $6, but I found some 1st row, Club Level seats for only $57 dollars, so I bought them and earned 570 AAdvantage Miles.

Since I’m the host, I’ll be picking up the tab so I plan to use my Citi AAdvatange Mastercard and earn more miles.  My friend can still put away the beer like he did back in college. Given the amount of beer he can drink and the prices at the Ballpark, I’ll probably earn enough AAdvantage miles for a first class ticket to Hong Kong.

Sign up with ADT Home Security Service and earn 8,000 AAdvantage Miles

ADT
“ADT” Photo credit: nadbasher on Flickr

I’ve mentioned this before, but if you’re not already a member of AAdvantage eShopping, you really should be. It’s a great way to earn AAdvantage Miles just by shopping many of the retailers that you probably already shop, and from my experience, the prices on the site are the same, or sometimes even better, than the prices you’d pay at a physical store.

I was shopping the site looking for luggage and found this offer from ADT Home Security: earn 8,000 AAdvantage Miles by signing up for monitored home security service from ADT:

Protect your family and valuables today with help from ADT, America’s #1 home security provider! Get a FREE ADT- monitored home security system valued at $850, only $99 to install with purchase of alarm monitoring services.

Pricing depends upon the size and layout of your home plus lots of other factors ,so you’ll need to speak with one of their representatives to get a quote, but they’ll come to your home and give you a security evaluation for free.

To get this offer you’ll need to sign into (or sign up with) AAdvantage eShopping and then select the “Shop Now” button on this page.   Learn more about AAdvantage eShopping here.
