Bigger, Better, Bose Offer: 1,200 AAdvantage Miles

Posted on: April 26th, 2012 by: aadvantagegeek

Bose magazine ad

I was looking through the most recent American Way magazine and found an offer from Bose that’s better than the one you’ll find at AA.com.  The website displays the usual 2 AAdvantage miles for every $1 spent on a Bose purchase.

Here’s the better offer I found  in the back of the current American Way.

Offer from April 15 American Way Magazine

Earn 1200 American Airlines AAdvantage miles with the purchase of Bose QuietComfort 15 Acoustic Noise Cancelling headphones.

Whether you’re mid-flight, at work or relaxing at home, QuietComfort 15 headphones reduce the noise around you—so you’ll enjoy music and movies with fewer distractions.

The Bose QC15 headphone does a remarkable job keeping out unwanted noise, and they’re great for music and movies.

They’re also great for sleeping. One of my favorite uses is to connect the headphones to my iPad, and then launch my favorite sleep app, Sleep from Red Hammer Software.

The headphones seal out the world, and the sounds soothe me to sleep.   Only the scent of a chocolate chip cookie being baked on board can wake me.

(By the way, you’ll find a list of some other sleep aid Apps here.)

But back to the Bose promo:  According to the Magazine ad, the 1,200 Bonus AAdvantage Miles offer expires June 30.  Go here to read the fine print or to place your order.

Now that we covered the wine, and the bonus miles, it’s time to get to the dirt.

I’ve been waiting for a good reason to share this video from the O’Connell family of winemakers. If you’re not familiar with them, Joe, Liz, and their son Ryan, moved their very American family from Boston to the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France to pursue their dream of making wines.

Over the years, Ryan has put together some really funny and creative videos about life on the vineyard, food, and of course, wine.

Among his classics:

Petting Zoo Cheese Tasting – This cheese tastes the way a petting zoo smells.

And this one:

Winemaker tastes dirt – True Vin de Terroir Tasting: dirt in a wine bottle

Ryan’s working in California now, and flies back and forth between Napa and the Languedoc (hopefully earning AAdvantage Miles).

If you’re a wine enthusiast, you might want to follow his observations about the winemaking differences between Napa and the Languedoc, or as he explains it:

“A young winemaker kidnapped from his vineyard in the Languedoc to learn the ways of the west coast wine business”

You can find his kid napa blog here.

AAdvantage Dining News: Bonus Offers and Apps for iPhone, Android, and Blackberry

Posted on: November 3rd, 2011 by: aadvantagegeek

If you’re already a member of the AAdvantage Dining program, keep an eye on your inbox for a targeted offer.  The bonus varies by recipient, but here’s a look at the offer that I received:

Register now for the Sweeten the Deal Bonus.  Spend $125 dining at program restaurants through December 31, 2011 and complete your dining reviews within 30 days of each visit to earn 3 AAdvantage bonus miles on top of the AAdvantage miles you already earn for dining.  That’s an additional 375 AAdvantage bonus miles!

Here’s how to earn your extra 3 AAdvantage bonus miles per dollar:

1 Register for the Sweeten the Deal Bonus
2 Spend $125 dining at program restaurants through 12/31/11
3 Complete your reviews within 30 days of dining

Others have reported receiving a similar offer but with spending and bonus levels ranging from $75 for 225 miles up to $200 for 600 miles.

Here’s the landing page for the offer I received (including terms and conditions).

Speaking of keeping an eye on your inbox, it may be that I should pay a little more attention to the AAdvantage Dining emails I receive, but something I discovered last night came a surprise to me: there is a mobile app that supports AAdvantage Dining

Rewards Network, the people that offer dining rewards for many loyalty programs (including AAdvantage) have had a mobile app for some time.  But until recently, their RN Dining app didn’t support the AAdvantage Dining program.  That’s changed very recently, and now tthe app will help you earn miles with your meals.

Here’s the description of the iPhone app:

SEARCH: Choose the dining program you belong to (including AAdvantage), then search by current location, by popular cities or by ZIP code/city and state.
FIND: Get search results alphabetically or by distance.
DIG IN: Get deeper details like menus, photos and the phone number to call for reservations.
NAVIGATE: Click “Map” to see where to find your selected restaurant, bar or club.

RN Dining isn’t just for iPhone, it’s also compatible with Android and Blackberry devices.   Go here to learn more and to get the RN Dining app on your phone.

Trying to earn Million Mile status by December 1?  Here’s an easy way to pick up 500,000 AAdvantage Miles, just build a million dollar house in Texas.  Sure the summer is brutal, 5 of the 10 cities at greatest risk of a natural disaster are in the Lone Star State, but with half a million AAdvantage Miles in your account you’ll be able to flee the 106 temperatures and tornados.

Home builder Garabedian Properties is offering AAdvantage miles when you contract with them to build or renovate a home:

Miles For Dreams – Contract to purchase one of our existing home sites and have Garabedian Properties build your dream home.

Projects include but are not limited to remodels, renovations, additions, bathroom updates, kitchen updates, roof replacement, water damage repairs and other such projects.

And if you’re happy with the home you have, or don’t won’t to move to Texas, there’s still a way to earn miles:

Not Ready Yet – Ask about gift cards/certificates where you can lock in your mileage award now but take your time on the design and build process OR gift it to someone else.

FTD Celebrates their 101st Anniversary with Bonus Miles Offer

Posted on: August 8th, 2011 by: aadvantagegeek

I saw that the other day the Tulsa Airport had measured runway temperatures of more than 145 degrees. Tulsa isn’t the only hotspot, it’s been a brutal summer everywhere, so after more than a month of 100+ degree temperatures in Dallas, I’ve fled to Canada for a vacation. As Popeye likes to say, “That’s all I can takes, because I can’t takes no more!”

Every August I travel to Montreal to enjoy good food, nice weather, a little outdoor exercise, and lots of relaxation. I’ve been to the city often enough now that I don’t feel the need to see the sites, to visit the Old Port, or do much of anything. Instead, I unplug, slow down, and decompress.

Tonight I’m sitting at the Grand Hyatt DFW, taking advantage of their Park, Sleep and Fly offer. For the same price as a week of parking at DFW airport, I can stay at the hotel, unwind, check out in the morning, then take the elevator down to catch my flight. Right now I’m looking out the window with a view of Terminal D, waiting for Qantas 8 to push back and depart for Brisbane. I’m also listening to DFW Tower West air traffic control: with instructions like “Go on down and take a right…” or “you’re gonna have to get clear of that big ol’ 74…”, it’s obvious the tower crew comes from Texas.

Anyway, tomorrow I’m off to Miami and then on to Montreal, so if you notice a drop in the number of posts this week, blame it on my vacation. Don’t worry, if American announces Quadruple AAdvantage Miles and instant Executive Platinum status for travel next weekened between Montreal and Dallas, I’ll let you know. But, if you don’t hear from me, have a good week.

Now for Monday’s update…..

FTD is old enough to be AAdvantage’s Grandmother. In fact, the day that AAdvantage was born, FTD was already old enough to collect Social Security, and this year the “world’s oldest floral services organization” is celebrating 101 years of operation. And while at 101, FTD might not be up to 30 days of celebrations, they are offering Bonus AAdvantage Miles:

Earn Bonus Miles For FTD’s 101st Anniversary!

Award: 15 miles per $1 spent plus 101 bonus miles
or
Award: 15 miles per $1 spent plus 301 bonus miles for Elite Members

Dates: August 1st through August 31st, 2011

Offer: Celebrate FTD’s 101st anniversary with flowers, plants and gifts from FTD and earn 101 bonus miles with every purchase! Elite members earn 301 bonus miles!

The next time you’re having a conversation with someone that you’re trying to impress, here’s a little piece of trivia that you use, FTD was originally founded as Florists’ Telegraph Delivery.

To earn your bonus miles, you have to order online using promo code 4178. Those with AAdvantage elite status, can earn their extra miles using promo code 9041. Go here for complete details.

Batteries
“Batteries” Photo credit: tomblois on Flickr

I really struggled with today’s post. There were just so many bad pun headline options, that it’s was shame I could only pick one. Among those not making the cut:

3. Power Your Next Vacation with AAdvantage Miles from AtBatt.com

4. Turn AA Batteries in to AA Miles. AAvantage Offer from AtBatt.com

Oh the possibilities….

Anyway, when you shop online battery retailer AtBatt.com you’ll earn 1 AAdvantage Mile per one dollar spent on their site. They sell batteries for laptops, powertools, motorcycles, even medical devices.

Citi Executive AAdvantage World Elite MasterCard: Get up to 2 AAdvantage Miles per dollar, Admirals Club Access, and Elite Qualifying Miles

Posted on: July 16th, 2011 by: aadvantagegeek

I’m a long-time Citibank and Citi Card customer and have both a Citi AAdvantage Mastercard and a Citibank AAdvantage debit card in my wallet.

I thought I was pretty familiar with their products that earn AAdvantage Miles, but I just learned about the Citi Executive AAdvantage World Elite MasterCard which earns twice as many miles as my current card and has this long list of other really cool benefits that don’t come with any other Citi AAdvantage cards:

Earn 2 AAdvantage miles for every $1 spent on eligible American Airlines purchases and 1 AAdvantage mile for every $1 spent on other purchases

Admirals Club lounge access with unlimited access for you and your immediate family

10,000 Elite Qualifying Miles from American Airlines after $40,000 in purchases each calendar year

25,000 American Airlines AAdvantage bonus miles after $1,000 in purchases within the first 4 months of cardmembership

Priority check-in, airport screening and boarding privileges

No Foreign Transaction fees on purchases

I’m not too familiar with the United Airlines branded credit card, but both Continental and Delta offer some kind of elite version of their frequent flyer branded credit cards that includes lounge access, at least one free checked bag, and other perks. As far as I know though, this is a first for American Airlines and the Citi AAdvantage card.

The annual fee of $450.00 may seem a little steep, but it looks to be a really good value when you consider that an Admirals Club membership will cost you about the same amount, plus with this card you’ll get a free checked bag (normally $25), you won’t pay foreign transaction fees, and you’ll get Priority AAccess. I plan to call and see if I can upgrade my current card and have some portion of the annual fee I paid in June credited against the higher annual fee of the Citi Executive AAdvantage World Elite MasterCard.

Go here to apply or read more information.
