Security Trip Report

A quick note on the “Black Diamond” security line program that encourages passengers to self-select which security line — Expert, Casual, or Special Need/Family — fits their travel profile.  Chicago Midway’s airport had it setup and it worked exactly as designed.  There was one “Expert” line on the far right that had almost no line.  It shot the “experts” to a security screening on the far right with 2 dedicated x-ray machines and metal detectors.  I was through the whole process in under 5 minutes.

This is not the first time I’ve gone through the “Black Diamond” program but it was the first time that it reduced my security time because the self-select lines were BEFORE the ID check.  If the signs are after the ID check then it is too difficult for people to jump around to the correct security line and at that point most people are just choosing the shortest line.
