Republic and Regional Flying
October 20, 2008 – 7:31 amI try to keep the anecdotal/personal stories off the blog as much as possible but here’s a comment worth sharing. I flew Republic yesterday from PIT-BOS and it highlights how lucky US Airways is to have signed up with such a great regional carrier. As PIT has been downgraded to all regional flying a bulk of the traffic out of the airport is now served by Republic, which is much much better than US Airways. The flight attendants/pilots are always friendly, the planes are clean and generally new Embraer’s and overall it is just a better experience.
So, the moral here is that as dependence on regional carrriers grows, be sure to check out what airline you are actually flying. Mainline carriers contract out with all sorts of partners and they all are different. They will all get you to your destination safely, but if you are choosing between the 5 PM and 6 PM flight then it might be worth checking out which airline is actually operating the plane.
