Allegiant Transfers Allegiance in Michigan
November 11, 2008 – 8:30 amAllegiant announced yesterday that it is moving 70 miles west on I-96 from Lansing to Grand Rapids. Although Allegiant has been in Lansing for 5 years, this can’t be terribly surprising. Lansing is only 88 miles from DTW which has low cost competition from Spirit. In addition, the Grand Rapids airport pledged over $1 million in landing fee waivers and marketing support.
This is classic Allegiant: Avoid competition and negotiate subsidies from desperate airport boards.
