Fee Branding
November 29, 2008 – 5:07 pmThe airline fee blitz unfolded rapidly and I imagine the marketing departments of traditionally slow moving companies were challenged in ways that they never truly anticipated. As a result, you end up with strange names for services that used to be free. One of my favorites is United’s “Travel Enhancements.” Travel Enhancements include Economy Plus, Trip Insurance, Door to Door Baggage, Award Accelerator as well as a host of other options. On some pages these options are appropriately called “Options” and on others they are called “Enhancements.”
It is nice to have extra legroom, but I’m not sure how giving United more cash to double my mileage accrual really “enhances” my flight experience.
