E190 Transcon

February 2, 2009 – 7:45 pm

According to a thread on airliners, JetBlue is flying an E190 transcontinental on its LGB-IAD route.  A commenter on the thread notes that this is a limited time deal for Saturday night departures in February.  Price one of these flights out and there is clearly weak demand ($99 fares.)  However, there are still flight maps loaded for the A320, so I can’t verify the report.

If true, this is a savvy use of its second aircraft to match supply with demand.  Redeye delays are limited and empty skies allow for direct routing, mitigating any flight range issues.  For customers this is great as redeyes in the uncomfortable seats of JetBlue’s A320 are not much fun.
