I know this won’t pertain to most of you, but for any of you New Yorkers looking to go to New Orleans there are some incredibly cheap fares out there! If you’ve checked out fares to NOLA before, you know that flights are expensive and rarely direct.

I was searching flights this morning to go visit my sister who lives there and was almost blown away when Kayak.com had a Continental/United fare come up that read $119. I actually had to refresh the screen and do a double take. Within seconds I purchased the fare, knowing that I have 24-hours to cancel if need be (FYI: Continental allows you to cancel your flight within 24 hours of making the reservation). I was not going to let this flight slip away! The flight does have a layover in Houston, although the direct fare from Newark – EWR is still pretty reasonable at $240.

I checked Kayak almost every weekend and found these fares valid between the end of February all the way through the end of 2012! Even if you are flying from another city, it is worth looking into flights to New Orleans as they seem to be reduced as well.

If you’ve never been to New Orleans, I highly suggest you add it to your list of places to visit. It is an amazing city with the culture, the arts, the music, and of course the food!

While I am psyched about my low cost flight, I definitely made my sisters day with my upcoming visit! Her reaction (although via gchat) was priceless. Let me know if you snag any deals, goodluck!
