Starwood just announced a slew of new changes, with one huge benefit being lifetime Gold or Platinum status. Changes start March 1st and I am really excited about these new benefits.

Lifetime Gold:

  • 250 eligible nights AND
  • Five years (non-consecutive) of elite status (gold or platinum)

Lifetime Platinum:

  • 500 eligible nights AND
  • Ten years of platinum status

If you qualify, you will receive a new welcome packet in the mail from SPG. If you are antsy and cannot wait, you can call SPG and request this now.

I just wanted to get this information out there as I know people get very excited over lifetime status. I know I did with my million mile Gold status on American! Additional benefits to be detailed out later tonight!

Does this mean if I have an Amex Platinum card for 5 years (and included SPG gold) I will gain lifetime gold status?

@Paul – do you have 250 nights with them?

I was very pleasantly surprised when Marriott gave me the Lifetime Platinum packet. I was Plat for about 12 yrs, but have only earned silver for the last 5.

Over those past 5 years, I’ve been in Hyatt about half the time. While I like the Hyatt Place better than Springhill, the Platinum upgrade always brings me to Marriott when I’m in a full service hotel.

Apparently SPG is catching on to the need to keep long time high value customers as we travel less and semi-retire.

Must the “Ten years of platinum status” be consecutive ?

@Sandra – No, it does not need to be consecutive. Thanks for pointing that out. I’ll update!
