Have you received your $10 statement credit yet for a $10+ purchase in Lower Manhattan? It expires today (Sunday April 29th) so you better get on it! For those that who will not be able to make a purchase below 23rd street today, I have a great way to make use of the promotion – donate to charity!

So first off, if you have no idea what I am talking about, make sure to first read this previous post. Essentially, you can sync your American Express credit card to Twitter or Facebook (read here for directions on how to do this). For Twitter tweet “AmexTFF10″ and for Facebook make sure to like American Express’s “Link, Like, Love” promotion and add the Lower Manhattan deal to your account. You can also do this via Foursquare if you prefer.  Once you sync your card to the account you can then get a $10 statement credit on your next $10 or more purchase in Lower Manhattan. This includes all stores, restaurants, etc. below 23rd street (zip codes: 10011, 10014, 10012, 10013, 10008, 10006, 10004, 10005, 10038, 10002, 10009, 10003, 10010).

Now back to the promotion, if you are not going to be able to utilize this free $10 for your own purchase, you can instead donate the money to a charity organization online and get a $10 statement credit. So you will be donating to a good cause and have Amex reimburse you for it, not a bad right, right?! You will be reimbursed $10 for a single $10+ purchased.

The following online charities have reported to work thus far (thanks DansDeals!):

I personally just got my $10 statement credit by dining out in a restaurant in Lower Manhattan. Within about 20 seconds of the waiter giving me back my credit card, I received an email notification from Amex saying that the $10 will post to my account in 3-5 days. Now, I did the Twitter, Facebook, and Foursquare promotion, but only received 1 email. All three accounts are synced with the same Amex credit card so I have a feeling you will only be able to take advantage of the promotion once per card regardless of the number of social media outlets you register for.

If anyone knows of other charities to donate to located in Lower Manhattan, please feel free to post in the comments section. Make sure to take advantage of this by donating to charity at the bare minimum!

If your company matches donations you can even turn this into a $20 donation for just the cost of a few min of your time.

Smile Train is definitely a cause worth a few minutes of effort.

@Keith – Great suggestion! Thanks for sharing.

I can confirm that donations to GLSEN (the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network) qualify, but the minimum donation on their website is $20.

This is awesome. Donate for Free! should be its own thread on FT or something. I wonder how much this promotion ended up raising for Smile Train… I wonder if they are over there scratching their heads about the spike in donations.
