Spend $250 at Travelocity, Get a $50 Amex Statement Credit

While scouring Facebooks “Link, Like, Love” page yesterday, I noticed a new syncing promotion that is travel related. This time you will get $50 statement credit with a single $250 purchase at Travelocity on your American Express credit card. This offer is valid for purchases made by 8/31, but for hotel travel up to 10/31. The terms of this promotion specify hotels only and not flights, however, I really wonder how they will actually monitor the hotel dates and the travel type. Typically with these Amex promotions, all Amex sees is the purchase amount and that is that. As long as the merchant is coded properly, the statement credit it is. Maybe they have enhanced the technology or the merchant name is different if it is a hotel vs. an airline? While I am not positive how this will work, I’d be interested to see if anyone gets the $50 statement credit by purchasing a flight or a hotel after the 10/31 date. If so, let me know!
Additionally, another blogger, New Girl in the Air, was able to find this promotion via Twitter, so if you prefer you are able to Tweet #AmexTravelocity to register this promotion on the credit card synced with your Twitter account. Unfortunately you will not get 2 $50 statement credits as the promotions do not stack, however, if you are looking to take advantage of this twice, you can have one Amex card set up to your Twitter account and another Amex card set up to your Facebook account. This will allow you to get the $50 back statement credit twice assuming two different $250+ purchases.
With this promotion, you are limited to 1 statement credit per card. As I mentioned yesterday in my other “Free Money with American Express find,” you will need to first sync your American Express card to the Facebook application, and then add this promotion to your card.

I’m assuming we can’t double dip with FB and Twitter?
dealswelike said,
@Angelina – Unfortunately not
Used to be able to do that, but not anymore.

Or just have independent facebook/twitter/foursquare/whatever-in-the-future accounts for each of your amex card

Ummm… I am being evil here. Is there anything on Travelocity refundable?

Amex SHOULD be able to tell what’s a hotel charge vs. airline. In your online amex statement after purchasing a ticket, the dropdown for more details always shows stuff like operating airline and ticket number.

I doubt air ticket would work. When you buy air ticket, the airlines charges your credit card instead of Travelocity. For example, I got a tix on orbitz and amex website shows:
071509 AIRLINE/AIR CARRIER
UNITED AIRLINES
From : To : Carrier : Class :
XXX to YYY
Ticket Number : 01234567890 Date of Departure : 1234
Passenger Name : ABC/DEF
Document Type : PASSENGER TICKET
Doing Business As: UNITED AIRLINES
Merchant Address: 1200 E ALGONQUIN RD
ELK GROVE VILLAGE
IL
60007
UNITED STATES
Reference Number: 320121xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Dispute/Inquire about this charge

I am also seeing this from within the Amex iPhone app.

@Jeff – That is good to know. Mine has not been working for the past 24 hours, but it should show the exact same promotions as the Facebook “Link, Like, Love” site.

Does this count Hotel + Flight packages, or is the offer only for hotels?
dealswelike said,
@Rob – I am not 100% sure. It depends on how it is coded on your credit card statement. I personally have never purchased a hotel + flight package so I am not sure. It must come in as a Travelocity purchase.

Can u get AAA rates (or other discounted rates that u can select thru the hotel website) thru Travelocity?
dealswelike said,
@Gt5309a – Yes, you should be able to as all that matter is that $250 comes through on your credit card statement.
