Through the Iberia Airlines website, you are able to register each child for a Iberia Plus frequent flyer account and receive 2,500 free Avios miles. Since Iberia and British Airways utilize the same currency for points, “Avios,” you are then able to transfer the points freely between the two programs. Typically, 2,500 points in a childs account won’t do much, however, with the British Airways program you are able to pool your points into a family household account. The only downside is that you must have your account open for 3 months before transferring your Iberian points over to British Airways. Not a big deal at all unless you are hoping to use the miles asap.
For example, if you have two children, you will end up with an additional 5,000 Avios points! And remember, free one-way short haul tickets on partner American Airline only requires 4,500 points! My husband was able to redeem these points for a flight to Montreal that would have otherwise cost over $200.
Through the terms of the program, eligible children must between the age of two and eleven. To submit the application, you must fill out this form and include a photocopied ID card or passport of both the child and parent/legal guardian. You must register your child by August 31, 2012 to be eligible for this promotion.
