Yesterday, American Express announced another Twitter Synching promotion where if you spend $200 at Best Buy you will receive a $20 statement credit. I retweeted this yesterday, so hopefully some of you are already aware, but if not I did some research this morning to see how you all can maximize this promotion. Of course you must do three things first:

  • Sync your American Express card to Twitter (I am hoping you’ve all already done this!)
  • Register for the promotion by Tweeting #AmexBestBuy20 (and make sure you receive an enrollment confirmation on the “Connect” tab in your Twitter account)
  • Spend $200 at Best Buy using your synced American Express card

While $20 back on a $200 purchase is great, but what if you really having nothing to purchase at Best Buy by the expiration date of September 16, 2012. Well… you can purchase gift cards to then keep in your pocket and use whenever you desire. Best Buy also sells iTunes and Facebook gift cards. I asked about American Express and Visa gift cards and they stated they no longer sell them… bummer!

So this is great for you to pre-buy to use at another time or if you have a gift to give someone. Also, this promotion is valid for purchases online or in store, so if you make the purchase via online, use one of the online shopping portals. If you purchase an iTunes or Facebook gift card, chances are you’ll definitely receive the points/cash back, although Best Buy gift cards might not give you the points/cash back as many times they are excluded (although it may work for you!).

    The way this could work is…
    1. Buy $200 Best Buy GC
    2. Sell BB GC to Plastic Jungle at 89.25% (as of 7/27/2012, 9am MST)
    3. Eat loss of $1.50(=Purchase-Credit-PJ)
    4. Points valued at $0.0075(=200pt/1.50)

    Best Buy in VA also sells Amazon Kindle gift cards, which can be redeemed for anything at Amazon.com.
