With the past Wyndham promotion where you earned 16,000 bonus points per stay at a participating hotel, many were planning on transferring those points to a partner airline program instead of actually redeeming them at a Wyndham hotel. I was personally promoting transferring them to Southwest as they would count towards the companion pass, but I know many are anti-Southwest and would prefer to use these miles flying first class around the world.
If you were planning on transferring those points to United, you are in luck. Through November 30, United is running a promotion where you can get bonus points by transferring your hotel points to United miles. This works for any hotel transfer, but I personally wouldn’t recommend it for any of the other chains as you get a horrible value when transferring points to miles. With Wyndham, while it is still not a 1:1 ratio, I know many were primarily looking to take part in the 16,000 point promotion or purchasing Wyndham points during the Amex Daily Getaway promo back in April for the sole fact of transferring those points to miles. With the amount paid for purchasing the points, transferring them to miles actually made sense and gave a great cost per mile value.
With this promotion, you will earn the following bonus miles:
- 5,000-9,999 miles = 1,000 bonus miles
- 10,000-19,999 miles = 2,500 bonus miles
- 20,000-49,99 miles = 5,000 bonus miles
- 50,000+ miles = 15,000 bonus miles
So with the Wyndham transfer ratio, 8,000 points = 3,200 miles. If you maximized the 16,000 point promotion you earned a total of 48,000 points (3 hotel stays). If transfered to United, this is equivalent to 19,200 miles. Based on the chart above, that will give you an additional 2,500 United miles. But if you can get yourself to the 20,000 miles mark you’ll get the full 5,000 bonus miles. This only requires an additional 800 miles being transfered over, which can be easily done with Starwood or another hotel chain where you have minimum number of points and trying to unload those points anyways. With this promotion, you can transfer from multiple hotel chains to meet the bonus threshold.
- Marriott: 10,000 points = 2,000 United miles
- Hilton: 10,000 points = 1,000 United miles
- Starwood: 1,600 points = 800 United miles (however, those with no elite status must transfer a minimum of 2,500 points)
- Priority Club: 10,000 points = 2,000 United miles
- Club Carlson: 8,000 points = 1,000 United miles
Before transferring any points you must register here. Bonus points will be posted to your account within 6-8 weeks of transferring.
While this will probably only equal an additional 5,000 miles and isn’t the best promotion in the world, it is still great for those who were contemplating transferring those points to United anyways. I personally wouldn’t tie up my miles in United for 5,000 miles if I wasn’t close to 100% sure on that is where I’d utilize my miles. Airlines do run these bonus transfer promotions from time to time, so there is the chance that you’ll be able to find another promotion in the next year or so, but no guarentee. US Airways ran a promotion earlier this year where you earned 100% bonus miles on all hotel points transferred to airline miles. During this promotion, the 48,000 Wyndham points would have give you an additional 48,000 bonus points, which is much better than the 5,000 points you’ll earn here. I know many are anti-Wyndham right now (myself included) and are anxious to get their points out of their Wyndham account, so this could work well.
I personally am waiting to transfer my points to Southwest next year so they can count towards the companion pass, so I will not be partaking in this promotion. Will anyone else be taking advantage of this?
Thanks New Girl in the Air for sharing this promotion!
