Both Southwest and AirTran have announced travel discounts to sunny and warm places – Pheonix, Las Vegas, and Florida. While there is no set price, they are saying that one-way prices start at the following based on mileage distance:

  • 0-500 miles: $69
  • 501-1000 miles: $109
  • 1001-1500: $139
  • 1501+ miles: $189

I did some quick searches and couldn’t really find the prices consistent with the chart below, actually some prices were even less than what I would have though. Either way, definitely worth checking out desired dates to see if this sale works for you. Also, if you already had a vacation scheduled, you can get a credit back depending on how you paid. If with AirTran and a paid ticket, you will need to call them and they will give you a credit for the difference good for one year from the date you booked the ticket (these credits ARE transferable). If with Southwest and a paid ticket, you can get the credit back online by just modifying your already booked flight and selecting the same outbound and return flight options – you will then receive a credit for the difference for one year from the date you booked the ticket (these credits ARE NOT transferable). If you booked with Southwest with points, then again, rebook yourself the flight and the difference in points will go right back to the account you pulled them from – no additional cost!

The terms of the promotion are the following:

  • 14-day advance purchase required.
  • Purchase from Jan. 25 through Jan. 31, 2013, 11:59 pm for the respective time zone of the originating city.
  • Travel Feb. 8 through May 31, 2013.
  • Travel to Florida, Phoenix, and Las Vegas valid on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays.
  • Travel from Florida, Phoenix, and Las Vegas valid on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. From Florida, Phoenix, Las Vegas sale blackout dates apply Mar. 28 thru Mar. 30 and Apr. 5.
  • Fares valid on nonstop service only.
  • Displayed prices include all government taxes and fees.

Hopefully some of you will find a great deal!

Glad to see someone else taking an interest in Southwest! Unfortunately they’re an extremely overlooked airline.
