I know that Southwest runs sale fares pretty often, but their current one that I mentioned a few days ago actually seems to be really really good – so I wanted to re-remind you to check out the prices!

The discounted one-way fare prices for  travel April 3 through June 8, 2013 are based on mileage and follow this chart:

  • 0-500 miles: $49
  • 501-1,000 miles: $89
  • 1,001-1,500 miles: $119
  • 1,500+ miles: $149

Keep in mind that this sale is only for non-stop flights and not all routes still have these fares available. However, even for layover trips, I still was able to find some discounted flights that were well worth it.

Now, if you originally saw this sale and booked your flight, re-check your same flight to see if by change there was a drop in price. I booked a layover flight for my sister during this timeframe the day the sale was announced and the next day the flight dropped by $17. Since I booked with points I was able to get 1,020 points back into my account in no time!

With both airlines, I highly recommend constantly checking the price as you can get a credit difference an unlimited amount of times if the price drops!

I am very disappointed right now. I saw this morning an AirTran flight from Vegas to Baltimore for $90. I happen to be going there with my boyfriend in May. I figured it was part of this sale and didn’t want to book anything without talking to him first this evening, when the sale would still be going on. Then, after reading your post, I went back to AirTran just to check. Sure enough, the flight has jumped to $190. While that’s still a decent price for an almost-cross-country flight, I’m bummed it’s not $90. I totally forgot about the 24-hour rule. I should have just booked and then cancelled tonight or tomorrow morning if for some reason my boyfriend didn’t like the flight times. On the other hand, I was able to use my small stash of Southwest points to grab two $149 tickets to Phoenix, so I am happy about that. You win some, you lose some.

Update: I literally sat at my computer and hit refresh every 5 minutes to see if anything happened at AirTran. Sure enough, the $90 flight came back! I jumped right on it. I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited to book a paid flight in my life.

I’m wondering if anyone knows why the Blackout dates Air Tran & Southwest have in place for Boston area airports? They have another great fair sale going, but again, blackout on 4/12-13, which is of course when I need the ticket. Pretty frustrating!

    Oops, make that *fare sale

@Lori D – That is during the Boston Marathon weekend and April vacation week for schools.

Ah ha, that would be my luck. Thanks for the info!
