This is a pretty similar offer that was available over the Christmas time, but via Groupon you can purchase a $19 voucher to be redeemed at many New York City parking garages. This is for Icon Parking Systems which are ALL over the city – there are 190 locations and you can check them out here. For an overnight 24 hour period, this is a great deal! Typically you’d be paying $30+.

The voucher expires April 30, 2013. You are allowed to purchase 5 vouchers per accounts and an additional 5 as gifts. This discounted voucher is not valid for in and out privileges. Now, if you are looking to park just for the day, many garages around the city offer daily offers of about $13, but it requires entering by 10am-ish and retrieving the car around 7pm-ish. I am not confident that this parking is available downtown in the financial district though.

There are also many monthly parking options (for new customers only) that truly are a real discount. I’ve been doing street parking for the past 4 years and am always tempted to purchase one of these monthly options for a few months – I’ve done my research and they are incredibly discounted. You can check out the Groupon site for the monthly parking prices as they do differ per participating garage.

Groupon says this deal will be available for another 25 days, but that seems sorta odd to me, so if you are interested I probably wouldn’t wait too long.

Not a bargain, you can park for free in many areas of manhattan till around 6am or 8am provided you walk 2 or 3 blocks from your overnight stay.

@jason – you are absolutely correct. For the savvy New York traveler who is okay being slightly inconvenienced then there are other options. You can park for free overnight and then move to a garage during the day for about $13 or look for street parking and hope to be lucky. But keep in mind many of the free parking overnight in school zones or other areas or meters don’t begin to 7 so it really depends on your usage. For some this is a great deal , for others they’ll find others free/cheaper ways and might have to move the car a few times.

as a NYer, I think its a pretty good deal. But, a friend reported a garage refusing to honor the deal (they told him upfront).

Also if you don’t move your vehicle after the posted street times, your vehicle will get towed and here are the fees:
$185 for the NYPD tow plus a $115 no standing violation.

@Jason – good point. I’ve gotten a few $65 parking tickets for parking in an alt side spot. And those meter folks are there within minutes of the time being up.
