Steven Frischling, aka: Fish, is globe hopping professional photographer, airline emerging media consultant working with large global airlines and founder of The Travel Strategist. Fish has racked up more than 1,000,000 miles since he started to track his mileage in 2005.

Fish's travel tends to be less than leisurely, including flying from New York to Basrah, Iraq, for six hours; Hong Kong for eight hours, Kuwait City for two hours and traveling around the world in 3.5 days to shoot a series of photo assignments in 4 cities and 4 countries on 3 separate continents.

Fish grew up at the end of New York's JFK International Airport's Runway 4R/22L, which probably explains his enjoyment of watching planes, fly overhead. When not shooting photos or traveling Fish designs camera bags, hones is expertise on airline security and spends his time at home cheering for the Red Sox with his 3 kids 102 yards from the ocean.

iPhone App of the Week : iFly Pro

I have written about quite a few iPhone Apps that are fantastic tools for tracking flights or finding your way through an airport. But this week’s iPhone App of the Week offers such an extensive set of tools for travelers that I put it off for a few weeks because I didn’t even know where [...]

San Francisco International Airport Takes On “The Other Airport”

Most people never give a second though to an airport as a business, airports are seen as a building or series of buildings that planes come & go from. In reality airports are businesses and competition can be brutal for passengers dollars and airline revenue fees. Airports need to advertise themselves, differentiate themselves and create [...]

How Many Airlines Can Strike In Europe? This Sounds Like A Bad Joke

Looking at the labour relations in Europe for the past few days I keep having a vision of my father walking into a room and saying “Home many airlines can strike in Europe?” then adjusting his tie, laughing and saying “No, seriously … I’m kidding…” as people stand around waiting for the punch line he’s [...]

TSA’s Whole Body Scanning Imaging Policy

Yesterday afternoon a story in Chicago Tribune dropped a bombshell on airline travelers.  In a statement to the Chicago Tribune, Kathleen Petrowsky, the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) Director at Chicago O’Hare Airport (ORD), stated that she believed full body scanning, using new body scanning machines, would become mandatory in the future to guard against improvised [...]

A Twin-Aisle Narrow Body Plane? Maybe It’s Not So Strange

No one likes the middle seat on a flight … well maybe someone does, but I have yet to meet them. Airlines need to add as many seats as possible to a flight, and fill them, to maximize their revenue potential, but with more airline options the competition to attract passengers is more challenging than [...]

Tokyo’s New International Airport Opens & no one cares

Two days ago, on March 11 2010, the new Tokyo-Ibaraki Airport (IBR) opened. The inaugural flight to arrive was an Asiana Airlines‘ Airbus A321 from Incheon International Airport (ICN) followed by … well by nothing else… …normally the opening of an international airport is big news celebrated by promotions and fanfare. While the opening of [...]

iPhone App of The Week : uTalk

Over the past few months I have been using this week’s iPhone App of the Week to try and learn new languages (who am I kidding … I speak one language … although some may argue that I have not mastered English yet).   Having used many language Apps on my iPhone, and having written about [...]

Is There A New TSA Boss On The Horizon?

Since the start of President Barrack Obama’s term in office I have been writing about the need for the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) need for a Permanent Administrator. Earlier this week President Obama nominated retired U.S. Army Major General Robert Harding the permanent position of TSA Administrator.   At first glance General Harding is an idea [...]

Researching The Airport Security Passenger Experience : Grant & Sponsor Help Needed

As a photojournalist I began documenting airport security on September 15th 2001 and since creating Flying With Fish in January 2006 much of my research on airport security.  The reoccurring information that I have consistently encountered since 2001 is that everyone hates the airport security experience. In many cases people dislike the airport security experience [...]
