Steven Frischling, aka: Fish, is globe hopping professional photographer, airline emerging media consultant working with large global airlines and founder of The Travel Strategist. Fish has racked up more than 1,000,000 miles since he started to track his mileage in 2005.

Fish's travel tends to be less than leisurely, including flying from New York to Basrah, Iraq, for six hours; Hong Kong for eight hours, Kuwait City for two hours and traveling around the world in 3.5 days to shoot a series of photo assignments in 4 cities and 4 countries on 3 separate continents.

Fish grew up at the end of New York's JFK International Airport's Runway 4R/22L, which probably explains his enjoyment of watching planes, fly overhead. When not shooting photos or traveling Fish designs camera bags, hones is expertise on airline security and spends his time at home cheering for the Red Sox with his 3 kids 102 yards from the ocean.

This week’s iPad App of the Week really needs little introduction. If you read Flying With Fish then there is a high likelihood that you either love travel or photography … or both.  So … without further delay … … this week’s iPad App of the Week is National Geographic Magazine. National Geographic Magazine is [...]

Tomorrow Continental Airlines Ceases To Exist On Paper

Tomorrow, the 1st of October, the last of Big Five Legacy Airlines in the United States drops to ‘The Big Four,’ as the transaction finalizing the merger between Continental Airlines and United Airlines is closed. As I have written about in the past, the merger of United Airlines and Continental Airlines finally brings together two [...]

iPhone App of the Week : AirportSearch

There are countless iPhone Apps for searching airfares, some for tracking mileage of routes and some apps or finding airports and airport codes. This week’s iPhone App combines the best search functions, with the ability to find airline-route options without a fare-search-engine telling you the obvious … plus it adds in some great travel geek [...]

Changes To TSA’s Secure Flight & What It Means For You

As we approach November 1st, the date new changes in the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) Secure Flight program go into effect, some confusion seems to be bubbling to the surface. I admit, I am not immune from the confusion, I was all set to wrote about the changes to Secure Flight a few day ago [...]

Southwest Airlines Swallows Up AirTran … Goodbye AirTran!

This morning as I rolled over and read an incoming e-mail from Southwest Airlines, at 7:12am EST, I was pretty sure what I was reading was practical joke.  Southwest Airlines is known for its sense of humor … but this e-mail was one I really needed to read after consuming vast quantities of caffeine found [...]

iPad App of the Week : Boingo

Internet on the road, its a link to everything. Even with 3G iPhones and Blackberries, iPads with 3G and mobile 3G and 4G USB dongles to get travelers on the road, generally nothing is as quick as wifi for uploading, downloading and viewing graphics heavy internet content. This week’s iPad App of the Week is [...]

iPhone Apps of the Week : Air France & KLM

An iPhone App I have been waiting to see since December (when I was authoring KLM’s Blog) was released a few days ago … and in tandem. Sure quite a few airlines have iPhone Apps now, but this is the first time two airlines have coordinated the release of essentially the same app with two [...]

Reader Mail : What Does V Stand For In VMFA?

Normally I only write about civilian aircraft and airline topics, but this week’s question delves into US Naval & Marine Corps aviation.  Since one of my favourite TV shows as a kid was the Black Sheep Squadron, based on VMA-214 during World War II, I figured venture into military aircraft this week. This week’s reader [...]

Airline Fee Profits On The Rise Again

This past Monday the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics released the 2010 2nd Quarter financial data for U.S. airlines and the news was not surprising … ancillary revenue profits are continuing to increase. I have been writing about the Bureau of Transportation Statistics findings for the past two years or so because I find this shift [...]

Pan Am : The World’s Most Experienced Airline

As I read a stream of press releases, marketing content and view promotional material created by the remaining legacy airlines in the United States I often find myself viewing their materials and realizing that I can mix-n-match airline names and the content because the airlines have forgotten how to spark traveller imagination. Airline travel is [...]
