Steven Frischling, aka: Fish, is globe hopping professional photographer, airline emerging media consultant working with large global airlines and founder of The Travel Strategist. Fish has racked up more than 1,000,000 miles since he started to track his mileage in 2005.

Fish's travel tends to be less than leisurely, including flying from New York to Basrah, Iraq, for six hours; Hong Kong for eight hours, Kuwait City for two hours and traveling around the world in 3.5 days to shoot a series of photo assignments in 4 cities and 4 countries on 3 separate continents.

Fish grew up at the end of New York's JFK International Airport's Runway 4R/22L, which probably explains his enjoyment of watching planes, fly overhead. When not shooting photos or traveling Fish designs camera bags, hones is expertise on airline security and spends his time at home cheering for the Red Sox with his 3 kids 102 yards from the ocean.

Israel & Royal Jordanian Airlines – A New Middle East Conflict

Israel is fiercely protective of its State Airline, El Al … and not just in terms of its superior operational security … but also when it comes to protecting the airline’s financial interest. Israel’s protection of El Al is now creating a rift with one of the few nations in the Middle East that Israel [...]

Air Cargo Security Scares From Yemen, Shows Of Political Force & Real Potential Scenarios

As news unfolded earlier today that multiple packages with explosives made their way from Yemen to Dubai International Airport, in the UAE, and East Midland Airport, in the UK, air cargo security is once again moving to the forefront of the news. I won’t rehash the basics of this developing news story, what I will [...]

Southwest’s New WiFi Concept…where have I heard this before?

Southwest Airlines is well known for being a low cost carrier, staying a few steps ahead of its competitors and shunning traditional ancillary revenue streams. While in Dallas yesterday as a guest at Southwest Airlines’ Media Day Southwest Airlines announced a new simplified in-flight internet pricing plan, in conjunction with their service provider Row 44.  [...]

Atlanta May Be Southwest Airlines’ Promised Land

Today during Southwest Airlines’ Media Day, after I enquired how the airline intended to handle Delta Air Lines and competition in Atlanta once they complete their acquisition of AirTran. The response I received was a bit unexpected.  While I expected the “we need to focus on own needs” response … I did not expect the [...]

U.S. Federal Air Marshal Service Part II : Labour Issues

Tom Quinn, the former head of the Federal Air Marshal Service (FAMS) had once stated that “We’ve gotten it right,” in regard to how the Federal Air Marshal Service is being operated, however a number of Air Marshals do not believe it is being done right, from multiple points of view. For many the job [...]

U.S. Federal Air Marshals Part I : History 101

The U.S. Federal Air Marshal Service (FAMS) has been in the news more often than they would like recently … and as I have been researching aspects of the Federal Air Marshals recently on an unrelated topic … this is probably an ideal time to write a multi-part series on these Federal Agents in the [...]

Japan Airlines Steps Back & Rethinks A Low Cost Carrier

At the end of this past August the battle for dominance of between Japan’s two dominant airlines had reached a peak. All Nippon Airways (ANA), the slightly smaller and financially stable airline had begun discussing the creation of a low cost carrier (LCC) … and Japan Airlines (JAL), the larger airline in the midst of [...]

Gulf Air’s Promise To Break Free Of Government Funds & Its US$1billion

Back in May of this year Gulf Air’s CEO, Samer Majali stood in front of executives from the airline and announced “It is not logical to continue to request funding from the government to support the airline’s operating losses to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars per year; funds that could be much [...]

Is The TSA Humourless? There’s evidence to the contrary

A week ago Peter Shankman an entrepreneur & social media professional (who I really think of more as a life coach for corporations) made a comment to his 90,000+ followers on Twitter that summed up the feelings of many people regarding the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Peter quipped: “Your TSA. Providing the complete illusion of [...]

What’s Flying With Fish About? – A Note To Marketing Pros

I feel almost funny writing “So What Is Flying With Fish About?” more than six years after I first created what would become the Flying With Fish you see here today.  I feel compelled to address what exactly Flying With Fish covers for two reasons. The first reason is that this blog is receiving a [...]
