The heavens, man has looked up to them since the dawn of time. It is with great wonderment that children lay on the ground and dream of going into outer space, walking on the moon visiting a foreign planet.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has built dreamers since its creation in 1958. Before NASA, its predecessor the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), established in 1915, gave students and scientists the chance to dream of pushing the envelope. But now that we in the United States have stopped going to the moon and given up the Space Shuttle what is there for science students to dream about and scientists and engineers to strive for?
Before you do anything else today you need to listen to Neil deGrasse Tyson, an astrophysicist who will captivate you and get you dreaming again, discuss the under funding of NASA and how it has caused us to stop dreaming.

Having spent a little time working with/for NASA, an extreme aversion to risk and bureaucratic morass has more to do with killing the dream than funding.
You could give those guys $1 trillion and they still couldn’t get the job done because nobody is willing to admit that blasting off into an environment hostile to life on 10 million pounds of explosives is fundamentally risky.
On top of that, nobody can just make a decision about anything. It takes a 50 person committee to decide that the plans they just spent $1 billion and 5 years working on are just too risky….
