Steven Frischling, aka: Fish, is globe hopping professional photographer, airline emerging media consultant working with large global airlines and founder of The Travel Strategist. Fish has racked up more than 1,000,000 miles since he started to track his mileage in 2005.

Fish's travel tends to be less than leisurely, including flying from New York to Basrah, Iraq, for six hours; Hong Kong for eight hours, Kuwait City for two hours and traveling around the world in 3.5 days to shoot a series of photo assignments in 4 cities and 4 countries on 3 separate continents.

Fish grew up at the end of New York's JFK International Airport's Runway 4R/22L, which probably explains his enjoyment of watching planes, fly overhead. When not shooting photos or traveling Fish designs camera bags, hones is expertise on airline security and spends his time at home cheering for the Red Sox with his 3 kids 102 yards from the ocean.

…and we’re back … thoughts after the Farnborough Airshow

Nearly two weeks ago I arrived in London for the combined marathon-&-sprint that is involved in creating social media content for a major aircraft manufacturer at one of the premier industry air shows in the world … the Farnborough Airshow. Attending an air show as a spectator is great fun. Attending an industry sales event, [...]

Reader Mail : “Why had no one made a full double-decker before the A380?”

This week’s reader mail comes from Joyce, in Oregon, and it’s a favourite topic of mine.  Joyce asks “With the popularity of the Boeing 747, why had no one made a full double-decker before the A380?” Well Joyce … first off the design of the Boeing 747 was actually designed for cargo and cargo conversion [...]

The ‘You Might Be An Airline Geek If…’ Quiz

Summer is in the air, the sun is shining, some airlines are doing well and others are on strike … so I figured this might be a good time to interject some humour into Flying With Fish. To completely rip off a comedy concept by Jeff Foxworthy, this post is all about “You might be [...]

GUEST POST : …and now…a message from AirportBars.com

Within the community of airplane geeks, airline geeks, airport geeks, travel enthusiasts there are many subspecies of geeks. The most common species of airline and airport geeks are plane spotters and mileage runners. When it comes to subspecies of geeks, I’d probably fall into the niche of ‘airport sleeper aficionado’ … but today’s guest post [...]

iPhone App of the Week : Aircraft Recognition Guide

Back in October of 2009 I wrote up an iPhone that was great for airplane geeks, little kids, every day travelers and anyone who glances out the window standing in the airport here : iPhone App Of The Week : Aeroguidelite While Aeroguidelite has been a fantastic app, it was removed from the iTunes store [...]

Reader Mail : What Do All These Airplane Numbers Mean?

Marcy from New York asks “When booking flights on some websites I see sets of 3 digits that I assume are airplanes, but the numbers look unfamiliar to me. What do all these airplane numbers mean?” Marcy, when looking at aircraft types on various airline websites and online travel agency sites, I don’t give ‘all [...]

LAX Does Not Want To Buy A Flower From The Hare Krishnas

Last week the California Supreme Court handed down an interesting ruling, one that expressly allowed Los Angeles International Airport, more commonly known as LAX, to ban the Hare Krishnas from their airport. Hare Krishnas are well known at many airports. If you fly domestically into LAX you may not see the Hare Krishnas very often, [...]

Reader Mail : Where Does The Term “Black Box” Come From?

At the end of January I had written that I wish I received more reader mail with questions I could answer on Flying With Fish rather than those better responded to in one-to-one e-mail … and last night I received an email from Laura O’Connell that fit that comment. Laura asks “In all the news [...]
