Steven Frischling, aka: Fish, is globe hopping professional photographer, airline emerging media consultant working with large global airlines and founder of The Travel Strategist. Fish has racked up more than 1,000,000 miles since he started to track his mileage in 2005.

Fish's travel tends to be less than leisurely, including flying from New York to Basrah, Iraq, for six hours; Hong Kong for eight hours, Kuwait City for two hours and traveling around the world in 3.5 days to shoot a series of photo assignments in 4 cities and 4 countries on 3 separate continents.

Fish grew up at the end of New York's JFK International Airport's Runway 4R/22L, which probably explains his enjoyment of watching planes, fly overhead. When not shooting photos or traveling Fish designs camera bags, hones is expertise on airline security and spends his time at home cheering for the Red Sox with his 3 kids 102 yards from the ocean.

Reader Mail “Is A Lay Flat Seat The Same As A Fully Flat Seat?”

Wordplay is a hallmark of marketing and sometimes says exactly what a project is without actually saying what a product is.   This reader mail from Riley O’Connor is all about word play. Riley emailed me the following “I’m flying Australia in December and noticed some airlines describe their business class seats as a lay [...]

Japan’s Airline Battle Escalates To War Today

Today … well its ‘today’ in Japan and ‘tomorrow’ where I am … the battle between All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Japan Airlines (JAL) that I have recently written about will officially become a full blown war for dominance over the nation’s airline passengers. ANA has already exceeded JAL as the dominant mainline airline in [...]

iPhone App of the Week : Travisa Visa

Visas for international travel can be complicated. Some countries do not require a visa, some require visas for specific types of travel, some require everyone to have a visa … and all this information changes based upon a traveler’s nationality. I know seasoned travelers, top tier airline elite frequent flyers, who have arrived at the [...]

Returning Home With Your Camera Gear & U.S. Customs

I had originally written this blog entry for Seshu’s Tiffinbox.org, where it was posted it earlier today. Given that Tiffinbox.org generally has a different primary readership of photographers than Flying With Fish … despite Seshu and I both being photographers based in Connecticut, having both worked in Bristol, CT and both being Boston Red Sox [...]

Today Irish low cost carrier Ryanair has announced it will be reducing its winter flights by 16%.  While most airlines make their announcements and move on, Ryanair’s CEO Michael O’Leary is making public statement that the United Kingdom’s Air Passenger Duty (APD) is ‘damaging’ the airline industry and creating capacity reductions in the United Kingdom. [...]

The iPad 3G, Travel and the Ying & Yang of Packing

As a frequent traveller I take many factors into consideration when I choose what to pack. Not all tools are equal for some jobs, sometimes a tool can be left home, and as the options for potential tools grow, the line between “must have” and “leave behind” are becoming blurred. A year ago I never [...]

Iraqi Airways Flies Into A Legal Battle As It Returns To London After 20 Years

Two days ago a historic moment occurred at London’s Gatwick International Airport … however it happened a nine days later than planned considering much of Europe’s airspace had been closed due to a volcanic ash cloud. On Sunday afternoon an Iraqi Airways Boeing 737-400 (operated by Tor Air) touched down at London Gatwick Airport (LGW) [...]

Reader Mail : What Is The Difference Between Customs & Immigrations At The Airport?

This week’s Reader Mail comes from Molly in Ireland who asks “Immigrations and customs seem to be used interchangeably at the airport. I’ve notice when entering many countries they wear the same uniform. Is there a difference?” Well Molly … While many nations have merged Immigrations and Customs into one larger agency, such as US [...]
