Steven Frischling, aka: Fish, is globe hopping professional photographer, airline emerging media consultant working with large global airlines and founder of The Travel Strategist. Fish has racked up more than 1,000,000 miles since he started to track his mileage in 2005.

Fish's travel tends to be less than leisurely, including flying from New York to Basrah, Iraq, for six hours; Hong Kong for eight hours, Kuwait City for two hours and traveling around the world in 3.5 days to shoot a series of photo assignments in 4 cities and 4 countries on 3 separate continents.

Fish grew up at the end of New York's JFK International Airport's Runway 4R/22L, which probably explains his enjoyment of watching planes, fly overhead. When not shooting photos or traveling Fish designs camera bags, hones is expertise on airline security and spends his time at home cheering for the Red Sox with his 3 kids 102 yards from the ocean.

Security is a fact of life for airline travel and screening procedures vary from country to country … which leads to this reader mail from Gene R., from Pittsburgh, PA.  Gene writes “I just flew home to Pittsburgh from Paris with US Airways, as I have done a few times through Philadelphia.  When connecting through [...]

Two days ago I wrote Air India May Be Forced Out Of Star Alliance Before It Joins …   … early this morning Star Alliance’s Chief Executive Board, in Frankfurt, officially notified Air India’s management in Mumbai that their courtship for membership, which began on the 13th of December 2007 in Beijing, was effectively over. [...]

Flight Attendants Smuggle Over 63,000 Pounds Of Euro Coins!

Sometimes the logistics of a crime seems so unlikely that the fact that it happened make the story even more fascinating. One such story is unfolding in Germany as six Lufthansa employees, four of them flight attendants, have been arrested after smuggling more than 63,000 pounds of discarded, out of circulation, €1 and €2 coins [...]

Putting Boeing 737 & Airbus A320 Popularity Into Perspective

There are all sorts of impressive statistics for commercial airliners, cost per available seat mile, cost per block hour, how many hours of flight per incident, how many operators fly a specific aircraft, types of variants of aircraft … but sometimes its difficult to put all these numbers into perspective. First the basics, the Boeing [...]

Air India’s Search For A Euro Hub in Dublin…but why?

On October 31 2010 Air India bid farewell to its short-lived European hub at Frankfurt Airport, in Germany.   Air India had established a hub in Frankfurt only 17 months before its closure, however despite referring to the Frankfurt hub as “crucial” the airlines’ expansion, Air India quickly determined that the hub inefficient. With the airline [...]

Lufthansa’s Airbus A380 – Refining Classes Of Service

The word “behemoth” does not adequately describe the Airbus A380-800 … especially when you’re standing under it. I have stood beneath the Boeing 747-400, stood inside the engine of a Boeing 777-200, flown in cavernous belly of a Lockheed C-5 Galaxy, each of which are massive and I have seen the Airbus A380-800 from a [...]

Lufthansa’s First Class Terminal – Luxury In Transit

For the vast majority of travelers the single most stressful portion of air travel is the airport experience. Airport terminals are crowded, noisy, security lines can move at a snails pace, security screeners may be less than polite, the benches aren’t comfortable and the food selection options are dismal. For the privileged, Lufthansa has a [...]

iPhone App of the Month : 2010 World Cup South Africa

You read the headline correctly, this is the iPhone App of the Month … back in April my iPhone App of the Week was for the baseball fans … today’s iPhone App of the Month is the massive global base of ‘footie fans.’ The 2010 World Cup is upon us, and while Air France and [...]

British Airways’ New First Class … a whole new experience

Over the past few years I have had the pleasure of flying first class on long haul flights with a number of world-class airlines, including Lufthansa, Asiana, Virgin Atlantic, Air France, Swiss International Air Lines, Korean Air, United Airlines and Gulf Air … but this afternoon at London’s Heathrow Airport as I walked towards security [...]

Alitala Tops Among European Airlines For On-Time Performance

Alitalia, Italy’s National Flag Carrier, has been called many things over the years, but ‘On Time‘ has never been one of those things. Alitala is well known for labour disputes, strikes, customer dissatisfaction and an on-time performance record that generally rivals my attempts to wake my kids up most mornings … so imagine my surprise [...]
