Steven Frischling, aka: Fish, is globe hopping professional photographer, airline emerging media consultant working with large global airlines and founder of The Travel Strategist. Fish has racked up more than 1,000,000 miles since he started to track his mileage in 2005.

Fish's travel tends to be less than leisurely, including flying from New York to Basrah, Iraq, for six hours; Hong Kong for eight hours, Kuwait City for two hours and traveling around the world in 3.5 days to shoot a series of photo assignments in 4 cities and 4 countries on 3 separate continents.

Fish grew up at the end of New York's JFK International Airport's Runway 4R/22L, which probably explains his enjoyment of watching planes, fly overhead. When not shooting photos or traveling Fish designs camera bags, hones is expertise on airline security and spends his time at home cheering for the Red Sox with his 3 kids 102 yards from the ocean.

Reader Mail & Comments : I Got Detained By The TSA

Yesterday I wrote about being briefly detained by the Connecticut State Police, at the request of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and that once detained I was informed that I was not free to leave Bradley International Airport. Since my post went up I received both comments on the blog and in my email that [...]

So…I Got Detained By The TSA At The Airport Today

This afternoon I was at Hartford’s Bradley International Airport (BDL)  for the arrival of JetBlue’s first flight to the airport (well not counting the diversions they’ve had to the airport in the past).   When I finished gathering the content I needed on JetBlue’s arrival at the airport I proceeded to exit security and look for [...]

iPad App of the Week : TiltShift Generator

My photo editing on my iPad is usually similar to my editing on my computer … quick and dirty … crop, colour correct, size, save. For my primary editing with the iPad I use Filterstorm, which I have written about HERE (and I need to rewrite since the App has been improved significantly), but sometimes [...]

Photographers: Know Who Your Blaming…especially when falsely blaming the TSA

The other day as I checked the comments section for Flying With Fish I was met with a link back to a blog post by Chuck “Caveman” Coker entitled “I Hate the TSA” … naturally my interest was piqued. As I checked the “I Hate the TSA” link the first thing that caught my eye [...]

iPad App of the Week : Camera Connection Kit (its not an app)

The iPad is a fantastic tool, at home, on the road and in a time crunch just over a week ago I found a whole new application for the iPad … complete deadline photo editing solution. While I have previously written about the iPad App Filterstorm for editing photos as an iPad App of the [...]

A Lens Combo For Traveling Photographers : Sigma’s 12-24f4.5-5.6 & 120-300f2.8

As I have been delving further in combing still photography, video shooting and travel I have also been exploring new equipment to maximize my potential in creating images I want while reducing the amount of equipment I carry. In the process of checking out all sorts of gizmos, gadgets and lenses I found an unlikely [...]

iPad App of the Week : Filterstorm

The iPad has a significant amount of potential for both professional photographer and amateur photographers. Once photographers get past the fact that the iPad will not handle a full version of Adobe Photoshop, there is no Apple Aperture Application and Camera Bits will not be introducing a Photo Mechanic App they can start embracing the [...]

Are You A Laviator? Do You Laviate? Have You Laviated?

Some time in early 2009 the world was introduced to a new term by flight attendant and blogger Heather Poole … the new term was a reference to people who shoot self-portraits of themselves in airplane lavatories. The new term was “Laviator.” Since the inception of the introduction of the term Laviator I have resisted [...]

Why The TSA’s Carry-On Allowance For Photographers Is Irrelevant

One of the first topics I ever wrote about on Flying With Fish was the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) carry-on baggage allowance for photographers. This allowance specifically states that for Photographic Equipment “You may carry on one (1) bag of photographic equipment in addition to one (1) carry-on and one (1) personal item through the [...]
