10 Ultimate Rewards points per dollar is a great return for Sears purchases. In this post I’ll list numerous ways to leverage this deal.
Background
This month, Chase’s Ultimate Rewards Mall is offering 10 points per dollar for Ink and Sapphire cardholders when shopping at Sears.com. The deal is good through 8/31/2012.
Leveraging the Deal
Shop
This is almost too obvious, but it needs to be said. If you have Sears’ purchases you were going to make anyway, shop through the Ultimate Rewards Mall to earn 10 points per dollar (in addition to the points earned automatically with your credit card).
Tips for saving money:
- For free shipping, you can usually select “pickup in store”.
- Look for coupon codes before you shop. One great one available today only is “AUGUST35” which will give you $35 off a $350 order (hat tip HikerT). Note that the code will not work for buying gift cards.
- If a competitor (with a physical retail presence) has a lower price, fill out the online Price Match form. Sears will match the lower price and take an additional 10% off (hat tip MSPDeltaDude)
- Make sure to signup for Sears’ Shop Your Way Rewards program. You will earn points worth the equivalent of 1% of your order.
Buy gift cards
If you do not currently have a need to buy stuff from Sears, consider buying Sears gift cards instead. The beauty of this is that you will get 10X now and have plenty of time to make purchases later. The other big advantage is that Sears’ gift cards can be used in a variety of additional shops: Lands’ End, KMart, Sears outlet, My Gofer, Crafstman, Kenmore, etc. If shopping at KMart, checkout Cuckoo for Coupon deals for some great bargains (hat tip IrishTiger).
Does the purchase of gift cards count for 10X? YES. In the recent 15X deal via the Southwest Rapid Rewards portal many readers bought physical and e-gift cards and received points for each.
Buy gift cards and upgrade
I have used Sears gift cards many times in Kmart and Sears to buy other gift cards. In the past I’ve bought BP cards and EBay cards, although I noticed recently that my local Kmart no longer carries EBay. Note the risk: some people have reported being unable to use gift cards in-store to buy other gift cards. Your success will depend on the policies and cashiers at your local Kmart or Sears store.
Double Dip for 20X
This is one of my favorite tricks which I’ve done successfully at Sears.com many times. The idea is to go through the portal once to buy gift cards (physical or email), then go through the portal again to use the gift cards for buying merchandise (no, you can’t buy gift cards with gift cards online). The net effect is that you end up earning 20 points per dollar for your purchases! The downside is that you won’t get purchase protection or extended warranty coverage that is given by many credit cards. Caution: one reader has stated that Chase revoked their points for a purchase made with gift cards. I’ve never had anything like that happen so my guess is that it was a one time fluke, but be prepared for the possibility.
Double dip, buy and sell merchandise. By finding deals at Sears.com for merchandise that can be easily resold via EBay, Amazon Marketplace, or Craigslist, you can potentially get Ultimate Rewards points at a very low cost. The idea is to first double dip (buy gift cards for 10X), then buy re-sellable merchandise with the gift cards (for another 10X). The last time Sears was at 10X in the Ultimate Rewards Mall, I earned almost 50,000 Ultimate Rewards points by doing this trick. See “Mileage Run Shopping: Buying 162,000 Miles for $500” and “Mileage Run Shopping Results.” In that adventure, due to the costs of buying and selling (taxes, merchant fees, shipping, etc.) I lost 17% of the money spent, but the points earned more than made up for that. If you are a member of Sears’ Shop Your Way Rewards program, you’ll earn 1% back in the form of Sears credit! Caution: many things can go wrong when buying and selling, so this option is not for everyone. You may have trouble finding buyers, you may find merchant fees and other costs to be higher than expected, buyers may return items that can no longer be sold as new, etc.
My Take
I find Ultimate Rewards points hugely valuable so I will definitely play the “buy and sell” game. I’ll follow up with tips about how to find re-sellable items as well as some of the dangers and headaches involved in reselling. I’m heading out for vacation today so I don’t have time to jump in yet, but when I’m ready I’ll probably target earning 120K points or so. That would mean purchasing and then spending $6K worth of gift cards. Luckily I have all month to get this done.
How about you? What are you going to do to leverage this deal?

I’m in for $1500 already.
Do you buy multiple gift cards in $100 or one big value, say $1000 value gift card?? Do they charge any shipping fees for orderin a physical card? Thanks
I think the max value you can put on one gift card is $500.
Can we use multiple Sears GC plus one Chase credit card during online checkout?
Does the 10x (and hopefully 20x) count on purchases made from the “marketplace” on sears.com or only from sears directly?
If I buy the physical gift card online, can I use it to purchase items at Sears online?
For the price match form, should you fill it out at time of purchase or do that after the purchase? Thanks
Want to buy car tires online at Sears but it won’t let me on the website. I need to call to order. Will I receive the 10X points bonus?
I’m curious how long we think this will stick around. Just August?
The T&C say not eligible on Kenmore – does that mean kenmore.com, or does that mean any kenmore-branded item? Anyone have any experience here?
Crap started vacation will work on this when I get bacK
Anyone had any luck getting UR points by clickign thru and buying items from Sears Marketplace sellers, rather than Sears themselves?
What happens if you do the double dip with the intention to sell the items you purchase but end up returning one of the items because it couldn’t sell?
Last time some people’s second dip using gift cards got retracted. Can people verify should i use gift cards totally or put a small amount on a chase card. Thanks
@Basil -returning an item will likely cause the points to be retracted
Sears will not price match any Marketplace items or any items sold by Sears Outlet or searsoutlet.com.
@frequentmiler
(1) Could using the $35 coupon invalidate referral point earnings?
(2) Would you recommend using a chase card to be safe or does any card work?
@Sil: You can use Physical gift cards to purchase online but you would have to wait for them to come via mail first. Your tire purchase must be made through the UR Mall shopping portal to get the bonus points.
@Curtis: Most likely just for August but they will run more promotions again next month with different stores. It changes month to month.
Can buying gift cards work on NewEgg.com too? Although it’s only 5%, I use that a lot more than sears. Thanks.
Is there a way to get around Sears tax? I live in NY and 8.875% is ridiculous.
Hi all, I’m in transit to Alaska with limited ability to answer comments. Please continue to help each other with this. Here are a few answers anyway:
- Yes you can use e-gift cards in-store and physical gift cards online
- Yes you can use multiple gift cards with each order
- Yes you should get points for buying marketplace items as long as the “add to cart” button is there (some items take you to a separate web site — don’t do those).
- Note that marketplace items are often overpriced
- Yes you can use non-Chase credit cards, but it’s risky. If something goes wrong you’ll have a hard time getting help from Chase
- With most merchants, it is a good idea to put a small part of the purchase on a credit card when paying with gift cards. I haven’t found this to be necessary with Sears, though.
- Yes you should get UR points from Sears even if you use coupon codes, Shop Your Way Rewards points, gift cards, etc. I have done all of those in the past and have always received points.
- For those interested in selling on Amazon, please read tomorrows post first. You’ll find some tips and warnings. It’s not as simple as it seems.
- I don’t know if NewEgg gives points for gift card purchases
- T&C about Kenmore: this means, don’t click the Kenmore tab that takes you to a separate site. Anything on Sears.com with “add to cart” should work.
The $35 coupon code doesn’t work on electronics…
Everything at sears is a lot more than amazon arggg
No great deals + tax means your only real options are commodity items – lenses, tablets, etc.. Only problem is lenses that show in stock more often than not aren’t actually in stock and the pre-nexus android tablet market is so flooded you’d be lucky to sell any of those even at a significant loss…
i have seen it somewhere, but to confirm, I don’t need to use a chase card to get the 10x thru the mall, right??
Thanks
@Fred, no you don’t need to use your chase card to get the 10X
I’m going to office Depot first to get 5x then going to Sears to get 10x with those gift cards and then using Sears gift cards to get another 10x. Total 25x.
[...] Frequent Miler explains out to take advantage of the 10X UR points at Sears this [...]
can you buy all your gift cards at once? for example, can i buy $5K worth of gift cards on one transaction, or is there a dollar limit? TIA!
@marz Each GC is limited to $500, but you can buy up to 20 of them at once.
I’m seconding the question about the tires. Everytime I try to add them to my cart it wants me to call. Anyone have any experience on this?
Anyone having trouble getting e-cards emailed to them? Paid at 7am CST and still havnt got them
@MSPDeltaDude I ordered a bunch of GC’s and then got an e-mail saying it would be delayed because they need to verify the information. So I called their customer service number, gave the agent my order number and he transferred me to their security department where I was asked a bunch of questions pulled from my public record. Once I answered all of them successfully I immediately received the e-GCs (before I was even off the phone with the agent).
I bet that is the hold up, they will probably call you eventually (happened with OD recently too), but you can preempt them and give them a call yourself.
@hayden. Thanks! I actually ordered last night and called the security team this am. Still havn’t received them.
How does the Office Depot -> Sears GC -> Sears trick for 25x work?
You have to have an ink bold. You get 5x at office Depot for buying a prepaid visa gc. Then use that prepaid gc on ur mall to buy a Sears gc for 10x. Then use that Sears gc to buy whatever you wanted from Sears.
Sorry didn’t clarify.. Last part go through ur mall aging and use that Sears gift card to buy whatever from Sears to get a final of 10x. Total=25x
For those of you concerned about whether your merchandise will sell, I suggest listing the items for sale first (note: Amazon is a better marketplace for selling electronics. Ebay gets practically no bids these days). If the item sells, order and have it shipped to the buyer’s address, or pick it up in store and ship it. This way you don’t have to worry about returning stuff, what to do with the giftcards you double-dipped on, and paying off a large balance on your card.
Mine got held up as well; just called the Cust Serv line and asked to be transferred to verification dept. Answered 3 multiple choice questions and done.
As a side note, I’ve had trouble in the past using the UR Mall with Apple Safari on my Mac. I used Chrome this time and hope to have better results. Also took screenshots the whole way through so there should be enough evidence to fight for an adjustment if needed. These stupid electronic handoffs break so often!
To get the 25X, though, you’ve got to be comfortable with the risk of using a non-Chase card to purchase the Sears GCs. Just sayin’…
Just so it’s clear for everyone but the only guarantee is you’ll get 10x if paid with a Chase card. 20x and 25x are at your own risk.
For 20x to work, you can pay a portion by Chase credit card and a portion by Sears gift card. However, 25x is riskier because you can either use a Chase credit card or an OfficeDepot purchased Debit Card, but not both.
How long does it take for UR points to post? Wanted to test purchase with GC to see if it result in double points.
Anybody knows?
To Blue: normally within 5 business days after your order
@Ariana and everyone. Careful with posting the items first online via Amazon or Ebay and then purchasing. As of last night that was my plan. I posted a tablet on Ebay because Sears tablet price was competitive. The item was priced low so it sold overnight. When I went to purchase the tablet from Sears there was a huge delay! Not only will they not ship it for free but I have to wait 19 to 21 days to pick it up at a local Sears. So be careful! When I called Sears to ask them about the tablet availability they said: “the tablet is right now in high demand”. Of course I wasn’t the only one who realized this one was cheaper at Sears than in other places!
@ Mariana, thanks for the heads up. I can’t believe they won’t offer free shipping on something that costs well over $100. I’ll make sure I call the store and check on in-store pick-up processing time before ordering.
I ordered few Sears physical gift cards, but I am asked by Sears Security & Verification department to visit a local Sears store and show my ID and CC used for ordering(this was after I completed my phone verification successfully). Did anybody face my situation? Frustrating experience.
Mariana….the item your ordered, was it a 16GB nexus?
My purchase of Sears GC using AMEX prepaid card did not go through. It kept telling me the card was rejected. I tried to order $200 GC, and my Amex prepaid card has $200 balance. Anyone?
@ Kevin
sears places a $1 transaction on your card…i see it on my ink bold sitting in the “pending transactions” right now.
try $199, should work.
@Gabriel, yes, the nexus 16gb
Thank you, Gabriel. I put $199 and it went through. Now I need to wait and see whether the points are posted without using a Chase card in the purchase.
Hello everyone… Newbie here…been reading a lot about gc churning…and wanted to ask you guys, how many of you can confirm getting 20x-double dip points from Sears?
For example, I plan to buy a d5100, So, thinking of buying a $500 gc through UR and then going through UR again to buy the Nikon D5100.
BUT- The T&C say not valid on GC purchase! So…how many can confirm that this works?
thanks!
Also- in case someone is interested in selling something on eBay- do it via the eBay mobile app on your smartphone and you can list for FREE between August 3rd-6th.
That means NO listing fees. and more importantly, NO selling fees either.
@Jay: Thanks for the great tip! I had the offer for (1) free auction-style listing.
Ordered few Physical GC’s. The pending payment is listed as “KMART.COM 7840″. I am afraid I would be offered only 2X(Kmart) points instead of 10X(Sears). In Sears 10X points fine print it says “Kmart.com products are eligible as a Kmart.com purchase.” Can someone please help, I could cancel the GC’s(Status:Processing) as they are not returnable.
MR: lots of people were worried about the same exact thing (gift card sales labelled as Kmart purchases) during the Southwest portal 15x deal in May. Yet, everyone (to my knowledge) received 15x points as expected during that promotion. So, I expect you will receive 10x for this one. There is always the possibility that things will change so there is always some risk to deals like these.
@FM. Thanks for your reply. In the fine print it says “Great Indoors & Kmart products are eligible. Kmart.com products are eligible as a Kmart.com purchase.”. If it was billed just as Kmart, I would not be worrying.
To MR: The pending payment of my GC purchase at Sears.com shows SEARS.COM 9300.
Good deed for the day- Help a newbie!
There’s a nice deal on the Nikon D5100 and if I can leverage the 20x points, then after reselling it (at a loss, obviously), I’d get about 13,500 points for $70.
Question 1. Is this a good deal?
Question 2. I am saving up for a trip, that would need atleast 120,000 points, which means that I’d have to buy atleast 9 cameras. Which would net me about 121,500 points for $630… Will this get flagged by Chase? I’D HATE to have them shut down my account for ” using card not as intended”.
Question 3.Has anybody done these kind of multiple transactions and have ALL the points posted?
Question 4. Oh and will this get flagged by Sears? Will I get asked why I’m buying so many cameras? What do I explain to them? I was thinking- photography club.
I’d appreciate any help I can get! Thanks!
If you made 13,500 points on $70 then how are you losing money?
if you were to convert 13,500 into Chase cashback, that is equivalent to…
$135.00 =13,500 * 1% [Points * Rate]
$65.00 =$135-$70 [Cashback - Cost of Camera]
You came out ahead $65.00 or am I missing something here?
Thanks for the reply.
What I meant when I asked if it was a good deal or not, was are there items on Sears that can be flipped for a lesser loss? i.e get points for a smaller amount? Or is getting 13,500 points for $70 a good deal?
I know that 13,500= $135, but that’s not what I was talking about.
Could you also please take a look at the other questions? I’m particularly interested in Questions 2 and 3.
Yes @Jay, getting 13.5k miles for 70$ a good deal, heck I would say, getting 13.5k for 135$ is still borderline OK for me
Now, regarding buying large amount of merchandise, getting points posted, everything is YMMV, it has been done as @FM has described in his previous sears deal for SW companion pass. But, YMMV again.
Reg, your goal of 120k miles/points, if I were you, I wouldnt go all in with 1 deal, start off small (may be $1k), once you figure it out, go for more, I wouldnt go all in for 6k/7k worth of gift cards since there are too many risks involved.
Re: other items that can be flipped for better outcome, it kind of depends on your situation, can you accept large shipments, tax situation in your state, your local CL market, etc.
Thanks T3pleShot! Appreciate the reply!
I’m not sure of the Cl market right now, since it’s been a while since I sold something on CL.
The reason why it was all in or nothing was because that camera was on sale till 08/06 midnight. (And now it seems that they extended the sale to 08/09)
So I bought the 12 gift cards for a total of $5580. Had to explain to sears why I needed so many gift cards. I did and they sent me the emails.
I then proceeded to buy the 9 cameras. I also earned about $110 through Sears rewards…and I’m really praying that I get those points…because Gift cards are non refundable. :/
For the people who were looking to get the Nexus to flip for points, it seems to be in stock for shipping on the site now. Item limit of 2 per person though.
@ Jay, have you been able to sell any of them yet? And if so, where and for how much? Thanks
I am curious to know how much do you guys make by “flip for points” purchase? I see it around 1.5/1.6 cents per point.
@kathy – I haven’t received any yet. I just placed the order. My biggest fear is not receiving the points. AND if I do, Chase closing my card for “using card not as intended”. I’d probably try Craigslist first and if not, then try Fulfillment by Amazon.
@MR- Got the camera for $620 x 9 = $5580.
If sold on Amazon, I’ll get about $560 for each of them (after all fees etc) = $5040
I also earned $110 in Sears rewards.
That brings the total to $5140. Meaning that I’ll lose $440,
So, I’ll earn (fingers crossed) 111,600 points for $440.
I’ve been told that’s a very very good deal.
@Jay, way to go! I would concentrate on CL to liquidate them. Sears has a good return policy – full refund within 30 days. So, even if it doesnt sell within 30 days, you can return it to Sears, get gift cards and wait for another sears deal to come by.
If you go with AMZN, the worst fear is, some moron opens the package and returns it. Now, if you return to sears, you have to pay restocking fees.
Has anyone’s GC purchase posted in your UR mall activity yet? How about any double-dip successes?
Mine posted on day 5. Ordered 3 ecards in the same order
Just tried the KMART at Penn Station NY – Didn’t allow the purchase of gift card with another gift card
To Jason: Does KMART at Penn Station sell Ebay gift cards? Thank you!
@ Kevin Yes they have 15 of them, was going to buy 15 sears cards to turn into ebay cards, but the manager screamed to all cashiers when I tried purchasing “YOU CANT BUY GIFT CARDS WITH GIFT CARDS THERE IS ALOT OF THAT GOING AROUND RECENTLY”. What do I get now with the $50 sears card lol
my points posted today for the purchases made with gift cards. those all had a component of instore pickup which may have helped post quicker? the original gift card purchase and orders that are shipping have not posted yet even though they were done prior to the others.
To Jason: Thank you! I went to the Kmart in Queens, but cannot find Ebay gift cards. I did not find third party cards in Sears in Rego Park. I guess we have to venture to the Long Island to get Ebay gift cards using Sears card.
Let me know if they let you buy it
I bought some Craftsman tools though the Chase site (not in the 10x period) but they never posted to my account. I am not sure if Craftsman.com purchases don’t count or any craftsman purchase doesn’t.
Earlier last week I tried this with Newegg. No points posted for buying the gift card. But received the points for buying the item with the gift card.
Now I’m impatiently waiting for the points to post for my Sears transaction! (Fingers crossed)
I am getting a bit worried now. I bought 2.5K worth of GC on Aug 3 and still no points from either the purchase or the GCs.
Anyone else not getting points from purchases made over a week ago?
It is basically useless to call Chase about it. You might get one who does not have a clue how this works.
@MP_Seeker Almost same situation for me as well. Btw, did you receive the GC’s? I ordered 4 Physical GC’s and received just one today. For the rest 3 there is still no tracking number. I placed the order on August 3rd. The pending payment for 4 GC’s in my Chase CC disappeared today (they were pending till yesterday AND the money has not been deducted from my CC yet)
If I: 1. Click through to Sears through the UR portal, then
2. Click the Lands End link at the top, then
3. Buy something at Lands End,
Would it count as a Sears purchase for 10x?
FYI – I bought $500 in egcs on 8/3. Then turned around and bought some stuff with them. Just now, I got an email from Chase for 5K points. Also got another 5K pts for the 2nd order. I initially didn’t see it in the email, but when I logged onto UR, I saw the orders. However, Sears later cancelled order #2 since item was out of stock. However, Chase still shows it.
My question is – how long before the UR activity pts show up as real UR pts so that I can cash out? Thanks.
@vinod, ur points get deposited at next statement close. You can call up chase to move ur closing date forward to get the points right away, but they can always “adjust” and deduct the points leaving a negative balance.
Thanks for the UR activity postings feedback everyone. For me none of my purchases are showing up yet, even the ones made on 8/01 (9 days ago). Here’s hoping its just a standard delay!
Another question: Sears canceled one of my orders last week due to non-availability of product. Instead of refunding my eGift Cards, they have supposedly mailed me a new GC for the refund. I found this extremely frustrating as they have tied up my money and I’m missing out on a limited time sale I was looking to jump in on (I haven’t received the replacement GC yet). Does anyone have any experience with this? Is this how Sears work…if you order using an eGift card and they cancel the order — they have to physically mail you a gift card instead of simply refunding the original eGift card? Very long and unnecessary process IMO.
@CodeAdam10, I had the same issue too and now waiting for my physical cards. It’s a very antiquated system. I don’t see why they can’t just deposit the money back into the gift cards.
@MR
I did not order any physical gift cards, only electronic ones.
I called Chase to ask if they see the points as pending in their system and they said I would only get points for the one purchase on my Chase credit card. They were 100% sure I would not otherwise. I almost laughed because right when the lady said that, I checked my account and points from Kohls have posted and I did not use a Chase CC at all for that purchase. I guess we will just have to be patient for the points to show up.
@CodeAdam10 and Vinod
Almost the same thing here but they decided to ship the items anyways. I received them late yesterday so I will be returning them in person at the store. Will keep you guys updated.
Data point: I got a great deal on a camera for $1350, Sears was running 10% off from 6th-8th. Sold it today on Ebay for $1,420. Projecting ~29,000 points for an out-of-pocket cost of $20. We’ll see if the points post, I used chrome for the Southwest deal too and those never posted and I had to wait 6 weeks and they finally manually credited the points, I’d be surprised if the Chase mall works any better. That being said, my contacts in the past with UR mall have received much more polite and worthwhile responses from them, even though they’re both run by Cartera.
I also thought about the Nexus 7 16gb, man those things are going for <$50 over retail on Ebay but they'll be out of stock for the next decade. Too bad! Anyone get in on those early?
Another question- If the points don’t post, how do you get Chase to credit you for the double dip?
@Vinod – I take it it’s the Canon 7D. I was going to do that, but once you factor in sales tax and 10% for Ebay/PP fees, I was looking at a much wider loss, so decided to pass.
@Jay – Eh, try calling them perhaps?
I’m curious what card everyone is using to buy the egcs? amex prepaid or a chase card? I’m scared Chase will not credit the points (or worse, deduct at a later date) if I use the amex prepaid.
@Vinod…it’s not that simple. If the points from the double dip don’t post, then explaining is not easy.
Step 1. I use the Sapphire to buy the GC.
Step 2. I use the GC to buy the item.
Points post only for Step 1.Then how do I prove that I did step 2? Since most CSRs will argue that points are given only when using a Chase card (which is not true)
@Jay – True. There is an order number that Chase tracks so if Chase doesn’t see it, I don’t know what to tell you. But what I’ve been doing for order #2 is putting at least a partial amount on my Chase card. So if order is $135, I’ll buy a $125 GC and put $10 on the Chase card. At least I can argue that I did place order #XXXXXXX on my Chase card. Now if Chase only gives me credit for $10, that’s a different issue.
So is Vinod the only person with a confirmed double dip?
I have approx $5000 worth of things to buy at Sears (fridge, dryer, grill, new mattress).
I am thrilled with 50,000 points and will be beyond thrilled if I can double dip. Just seems too good to be true…
Anita
@Anita
You will definitely receive 50K points. Whether you buy the e-gift cards or just buy the appliances directly (I would not recommend the latter).
To be 100% sure you will receive at least the 50K, put it on a chase card and if they don’t post, a phone call would resolve it.
If you use the UR Mall tied to your Sapphire Pref, then you will earn even more. At least 7% more.
I can confirm getting a double dip as well. Bought a $500 GC on 8/2, used it to buy 2 16 GB Nexus 7′s, and 5k pts from both transactions posted to the UR Mall on 8/8. I’m back in for another Nexus 7 that’ll be delivered on Thu right now. Waiting for those points and the double dip to be posted.
@Ford
Which camera did you buy and sell? I’m a photographer as well…so cameras/lenses intrigue me…
A few data points:
1. I’ve done numerous tested on double dips through the UR Mall, and have never gotten any credit for the 2nd purchase. For example, last month I bought a light from Lowes.com. I went to staples and bought $250 and the light cost 265 with tax. I used the gifts and put the rest on my ink bold card to get the 10x points. Only got points on the $16 spend on the ink bold card, which I had to send a secure message about. Maybe I’m just unlucky, but I’ve done it quite a few times at different vendors and never received points.
2. Best plan of action to get points that you know you deserve is to send a secure message. Calling doesn’t really help much I’ve noticed. I’ve gotten quite a few messages that have made me happy about crediting me extra points because I’ve been a good customer.
3. If you get lucky with the double dips consider yourself blessed because chase seems to be catching on pretty well to this. Even if you put a portion of the purchase on a chase card they will only credit you points for the part put on that card.
4. Just made a test purchase of a $25 egift card, had to call to verify identity. Upgraded the card at my local Kmart to a $25 BP Gas card. Now waiting for points to post. I hope I don’t have to fight for these as well. At least I put it ALL on my Bold card.
Sorry for typing so much just wanted to make sure everyone knew what they were getting into….:)
I wished I had used my Chase Ink Bold card to purchase. I have NEVER had a problem with receiving points at the UR Mall till my $1k GC purchase from Sears. I bought it August 4, 2012 and nothing posted. Everyone seems to see things posted within 5 days. I called Sears about this as this is what Chase told me I needed to do. Sears told me Chase gives the points and Sears has nothing to do with it. Is this true? I have the order number but I paid with AMEX prepaid card.
How do I go about claiming my 10k points or do I need to wait longer?
@Joshua – I was confused with your Lowes.com and Staples light story. How is that a double dip? A double dip is buying a gift card and getting points for the gift card. Then buying a 2nd item with the gift card. I think you don’t get credit for gift card purchases at Staples and Lowes, and so that’s why your double dip doesn’t work at those stores. This will only work at Sears.
Folks, one thing for sure. None of us know how this works.
I see a Kohl’s purchase and a Sears purchase (small $10 test) posted, but the big one of 2.5K still has not.
Maybe Gabriel’s experience shows that relatively small purchases post quicker without further scrutiny. The big ones like mine and yours are being verified or looked at again since Chase has to shell out lots of points/money for those. Again, this is a guess and nothing more. I have no idea how Chase and UR works.
Sorry Vinod…I was typing fast…I bought staples gift cards using an ink bold card INSTORE which yielded 5 points per dollar. I then tried to use those gift cards at the UR mall online at lowes.com to get 10 points per dollar on them. In theory this should have yielded me 15 points per dollar, but chase though otherwise and only yielded me the points on the rest of the purchase, which was only $16 that I put on my ink bold card.
Does that make more sense?
Argh..typing fast again…meant to say I bought LOWES gift cards AT staples to get the 5 points per dollar at office supply stores…god this stuff gets so confusing.
Has anyone received their points for Sears and not used the Chase Credit Card? I am wondering if I should have but needed to use my AMEX Prepaid instead.
@sil – Yes. I bought GCs with my AMEX prepaid and see the points. Whether they take it away down the road is another matter.
Btw, this deal just got better. So instead of Sears sending me another gift card because of my cancelled order, they sent me a check. So I basically got 20X Chase points for FREE.
my points still not showing up for original gift card order, but all points for others showing. i just did another gift card order and this time i used screenr to record the whole process in case chase tried to say i did it wrong.
I noticed something odd bout some UR points that post for a purchase (not a gift card). The points that posted were based on the price of the item MINUS the shipping discount! I know the sales tax doesn’t earn bonus points but it seems a little sketchy to also deduct the shipping discount before calculating the bonus.
sil: keep asking Chase (via phone or secure message) until you get someone who is willing to help you
Joshua Flores: it does sound like you’ve somehow been incredibly unlucky. Thanks for the tip about sending secure messages instead of calling. I’ve had good luck with calling in the past, but sometimes you need to call multiple times until you get a helpful rep
FreequentMIler-I sent 2 secure messages asking when I will receive the points. The 2nd one stated i was NOT eligible as the record does not show any Sears purchases using my Chase Ink bold card. I then called and spoke to 2 CSR who agreed. I then plead my case to the supervisor who said “no” points as I did not use the Chase Ink Card. But when I continuously argued that I have bought many items through the UR mall, I received the points. She told me I was very fortunate because I shouldn’t receive any. I kept pestering and told her how I didn’t know that I needed to use my Chase card and if I were not allowed to , then why give me the 100 to 2000 points for my transactions. I told her if I had known about this, I wouldn’t have spent $1000 at Sears. Finally, she told me she would give me 10k points for the Sears purchase when my statement closes, (within a week). I told her to have this on record as I am burning up from the heat and conversation. Then I thanked her.
ARGH, Sears is killing me! I bought $4000 of gift cards yesterday so I could purchase fridge and dryer and mattress today. (Sears Friends and Family overlaps with a 10% off multiple appliance purchases today).
I STUPIDLY did not print out the ecerts when they arrived; I was just going to cut and paste when the time came.
Now I’m ready to purchase, but the system that allows me to access my ecerts is down. The 10% deal expires today.
So I either wait until tomorrow and pay $300 more, or use my credit card today and miss out on the (possible) double dip AND get stuff with gift cards.
Sears, you are killing me!
above, meant to stay “get stuck with gift cards”.
Wish I had knows about sign up bonuses and shopping mall 4 years ago. I refurnished the whole house including buying all kitchen appliances….gosh, I would have enough points for two 1st class tickets to Asia or Europe.
Anita- hope you used your Chase card…if not, it may take time pleading, arguing etc to get your points.
@ Bangkokiscool
I noticed the same thing with my second dip. The sywmax savings was deducted from the purchase price while calculating qualifying amount. But hey, I am not going to call anything sketchy when I am the one going for the double dip. I will take whatever I get in the second dip!
I still don’t see any points in my UR mall yet. Bought $1500 in eGC’s and turned around and bought some merchandise with those GC’s. Forget about double dip, i am worried I won’t even get single 10x points for my gc purchase using my chase sapphire preferred card. Sears is killing me.
Nick-When did you purchase your GC? Did you use your Chase Card?
Sil : 8/8/2012 and I used the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card to buy the gift cards.
You should have no problems receiving it then. From what I have read, you should receive it within 5 days so wait till the 13th or 14th
Has anyone tried submitting a price protection claim online (not price match)? The submit button seems to be inactive, which is awfully convenient for Sears!
I’ve been trying to submit a pirce protection claim online since yesterday evening and also cannot hit submit. So I did two things:
1) I took a dated screen shot of my form filled out.
2) I took a dated screen shot of my item at the current price.
I’m also going to go to the store to pick my item up (a grill) and will just ask for the price adjustment in store.
@sil, I ALWAYS use my Chase card when buying at the UR Mall. I was burned on some large dollar, 10X items last winter and the stress wasn’t worth it!
@Anita, check your order confirmation email. There is a link to ‘chat with a representative’ at the very bottom I used that and it works. Ironically, I couldn’t find the link on the Sears web site. Anyhow, the rep was able to do the PM in 5 minutes.
Update:
I was able to print my gift certificates today. I called Sears and asked if they could honor yesterday’s 10% off because of the difficulty, and they agreed. She allowed me to place the order online and then gave me the 10% adjustment.
Crossing fingers for lots of points
Anita
@Sil, when you argued with the supervisor, I do not think you should say that in the past you have received points for not using Chase cards. It (1) is dangerous because they may retract your points, and (2) will cause an increase in scrutiny by Chase to retract other people’s points and consequently a death in the deal. My 2 cents.
Kevin- I doubt they would have the manpower to go to individual accounts and claw back the points. In fact, they haven’t clawed back my points when I checked in online. If i should have any precaution, it would be that my Chase accounts will be closed unexpectingly. This is the reason i transferred all but 500 points from my Chase to United. I will know this week if the supervisor really followed through and added the 10k to my account. I think next time, I will go through CSP UR instead of INK.
I had to say that I received points before on non-chase cards because if I didn’t I would not receive my 10k points. 1k points or less I won’t be hounding about but 10k is serious points.
@Vinod…you are a pro indeed….Good work helping everyone !
All – any new products that can be resold with minimal losses or any good deals at Sears.
So on August 7th I bought some stuff that was on sale and I used gift cards left over from the SW deal. the Sears.com receipt came up as
Total $549.95
Tax $ 43.93
Savings Applied -$66.79
Shipping FREE
Total$ 538.88
since the item was 110 on sale for 99 and I got 5 of the same item… the weird part is on the 10th when it posted to UR the order number matches up and it says transaction amount $216.00 qualifying amount $216.00 rewards 2,160 Points.
I can’t figure out how they came to that. any quantity and tax combo makes no sense and like I said I paid for all of it with gift cards, 2 x 250 plus the last $38 from a third. I bought this on an impulse/desire to see if and how long posting takes. If it wasn’t clear I went through an incognito redirect to an empty cart from my Ink BOLD portal.
Any recommendations how to fix this or how to contact chase without jeopardizing any and all points? Contact us at the bottom reroutes to general credit numbers. not sure how to pursue. I plan to buy some more GC and double dip but not at an unpredictable result. thanks in advance and if you’re reading this miler, enjoy your last day on vacation.
None of my (5) purchases @ Sears.com made over multiple days have posted yet. A couple of them were made as early as Aug 1. Heck, even my other UR mall purchases have not posted! I have not had this issue (on this big of scale) with the UR mall ever before this. And I used the same browser (Safari) as I always have. Here’s hoping its just a system delay.
I’m totally getting paranoid now…
A newegg.com purchase that i made on the 3rd, posted on the 7th. But the sears.com purchase that I made on the 6th, still hasn’t posted.
Should I be worrying?
@CodeAdam & Jay
You guys are not the only ones. I even had the $10 test e-gift card from Sears posted but the big one has not. The funny thing is that there are still people getting points posted (like Gabriel) and others have not.
Here is my idea, if we can start a database of transactions, I think we will get a better picture of what is going on. For instance, if the readers post their info (you can post anonymsly), we can build a database:
-Gift Cards or E-Gift cards
-Date of purchase
-Approximate amount or range(if you don’t want to state the exact amount)
-Posted (YES or NO)
-Date posted
-Web browser used (IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari..etc.)
-Used Shop Your Way (YES or NO)
@MP_Seeker
That is a good idea, and maybe a pattern could be gleaned and allow other interested to take the best course of action to ensure points will be posted.
All attributes of the transaction should be included
Mike, I had same issue with some weird amount of points posting for one of my transactions. I am not worried about it though as we have order confirmations showing the purchase amount so should not be an issue getting them to honor it.
None of my transactions posted. I emailed Customer Service via secure center about a $10 egc that I purchased from Sears.com on 8/6 and they said that it did not track and the agent manually added 100 points. I am afraid that is the case with the big purchases I made on 8/8 too.
To the folks who have had points posted to their UR account, would you mind sharing the following:
-what browser did you use?
-Any add-ons on the browser (like noscript or adblock). -What OS?
I have never had problems tracking with Staples or Newegg, but Sears.com or Lowes.com just don’t track.
i use chrome and clear cookies before starting. all but one of my transactions has posted
Yet again, no UR points posted for me. Sent a secure message today to chase in hopes that I could get these points. Bought an egift card from sears.com for $25 just to test the purchase. We’ll see. They always track my purchases correctly, but they tell me sometimes that my purchase doesn’t qualify. I have to fight for the points…sigh.
Here’s a tip – I use Chrome and first go out to Sears to find what I want and then add the items to my cart. Once I do that, I open up a 2nd tab and log into UR. Then I navigate to Sears and it opens up a 3rd tab. I then immediately check out. If you open up the 3rd tab and browse around too long, UR may time you out. If UR times out, you may not get the credit. I’m guessing that’s one explanation on why people aren’t getting their credits. Also make sure you don’t close the UR tab until you are done with your order on the 3rd tab. Then if I place a 2nd order, I go back to the 2nd UR tab and browse around (to keep my session alive). Then I open up a new Sears UR tab and complete my order.
@vinod- I’ve been buying things from UR and Discover mall for a long time, and I know I’m doing it right.
For example- I bought something from Newegg using the UR mall on the 08/03. The points posted on 08/07.
But the double dip done with sears on 08/06 has not yet posted. I’m MOST worried.
Got this message from Chase. Usually a secured message does the trick, but I hate having to fight for points all the time. I’m not doing the sears.com order again.
Dear XXXXX,
I have received your e-mail regarding non-receipt of
additional bonus points for making purchases through
Ultimate Rewards Mall.
Upon review, I do not see that the transaction made
towards Sears.Com dated 08/09/2012 qualified to earn the
additional bonus points. As a gesture and in recognition
of your business with Chase, I am happy to inform you that
I have added 250 reward points to your reward balance.
This adjustment will reflect within one to two billing
statements.
@Joshua, how many points were you supposed to be getting?
I am due 111,600 points! 55,800 from each dip.
jeez.
I only made a $25 egift card purchase just to test it out because I have had the worst luck with these sort of things. Other people seem to get the points easy, but I have to fight for mine almost every time.
Jay, with that kind of investment, I would be worried too. Although, I am not too far behind (26,000 from each dip).
What is weird though is that I sent a SM to Chase asking about when the points will post. The reply stated that I should not worry and the agent (without me asking) stated that it qualifies for 10X. Of course, he/she was talking about the GC purchase. I have not made any purchases with those GCs since I am not sure I will get anything out of it.
It is a waiting game. I think there is something unusual about this round of Sears orders. I am not sure if it is intentional by Sears or Chase or if it is just a system’s error.
Hi guys, although I am a Chrome fan, I used IE to purchase Sears and Staples GC through Chase Ultimate Mall. I have always received points for these purchases. Therefore, I suggest you guys use IE to make the purchase, even though I hate IE.
@Vinod,
HUH?!?
I usually cleared everything before ordering so Chase’s system is not freaked out to find stuff in “my cart” as soon as I log in.
This goes to show we know, wait for it, NOTHING about how it works.
@Kevin,
I have used both browsers and both have posted fine in the past. Oh well, here is to hoping both of you are right.
This is what I received for the $1000′s of GC’s I purchased.
I have carefully reviewed your account and do not show any Sears.com purchases qualifying for bonus points. If you have confirmation that shows your purchases were made through the Ultimate rewards mall, please send us a copy to review. You can fax it to 1-888-643-9628 or mail to the address below.
I am doomed.
Nick: Yikes. Are you going to fax your Sears receipt to them?
FrequentMiler: I have asked them what they need to see. I would be happy to just receive the 10x bonus points for the Sears.com charges that show on my Chase Sapphire Preferred card. I did not take any screenshots of the purchase (which I am going to do from now on, using SnagIt to make a video if the whole purchase, I suggest others do the same) to send them for any confirmation.
This is turning out to be a nightmare. I should have received 30k points with the double dip and now I am not even sure if I will get the 15k points for the GC’s and purchase.
@Nick: Why not just return the item to Sears and start over again? There’s still two weeks left in August!
I don’t know how everyone is doing it wrong…but my 2nd wave just began to post on the UR Mall as of 30 min ago (I just got the email “YOU’VE JUST EARNED BONUS REWARDS”). This was for a $380 and a $140 e-gift card. I expect the double-dip to post tomorrow.
Basically what I do is this: I add everything into my shopping cart on sears.com from Firefox. Items I’m going to buy/gift cards applied to my account…the works. When my cart is FINALIZED (ready to push submit) I then go onto Chrome, and log in at sears.com. My cart shows up ready to go. I verify this once more. I THEN go into the UR Mall portal, click on sears, click “take me to sears’ website” and then proceed to IMMEDIATELY click on the cart; proceed to checkout; review order; SUBMIT ORDER (after inputting the 3 digit code from the credit card on file). So far this has yet to fail me. I don’t even clear cookies. Hopefully this helps some people out…and hopefully the rest of my upcoming 15k bonus points post correctly.
The above purchase was made on 8/8, FYI. I did the double dip on 8/9.
I think on Ultimate Mall, it specifically says that you should empty your shopping cart before linking to the site through Ultimate Mall. Below is from Staples 5 extra points page: Shopping cart must be empty prior to accessing Staples through this site to be eligible.
I placed my order on 8/6 for $3K of GC & then made a purchase that was ~$3,400 an hour later. I called to push the approval process on the GC order. I used IE.
I checked the status multiple times a day and after several days not only had the UR points not posted, but the charges didn’t even post to my Ink account. The charges finally posted around 8/10 or 8/11. Today I secure messaged Chase and got the following response:
————————-
Thank you for contacting Chase.
I reviewed your account and noticed that the transactions made on 08/06/2012 for Sears.Com were qualified to receive the bonus points. You will receive 30,000 points and 23,XXX points for the transactions. They should reflect on your 08/XX/2012 statement.
I would appreciate your patience in this matter. If you
have any further questions, please reply using the Secure Message Center.
————–
Very puzzling outcome! I think that based on their formula (subtracting tax) I was supposed to get around 31,000 points for the second transaction.
Given other people’s outcomes, I am happy to be getting most of what I was hoping for and I assume there is no point in putting in a call.
@Andrew- so just to clarify- the 30,000 points are for the first dip and the 23,XXX points are for the second dip?
Man…you’re filling me with hope.
How were they able to see the second transaction if it was not paid for with a Chase cc?
I purchased giftcards through the UR Mall, then used them to buy a camera. The points are showing up as pending in my UR Mall statement.
How do you see “Pending”. I either see it there under “august” or whatever month is post. I will see the transaction date, posting date, item, amount and points earned
@Jay – Yes, I assume that the 30,000 is for the $3K of GC’s which I bought on my Ink (makes sense if I got 10x). That means the 23,XXX was for the merchandise purchase which was $3K of GC and ~$400 on my Ink (doesn’t make sense since I think I should have gotten >30,000 points for the second dip).
I think I am gathering this much from my experience thus far with the UR mall. Some transactions post, some don’t. We never know which ones will or won’t, but chase is usually decent about giving you the points owed from purchasing something with your chase card, i.e. (sears.com gift cards)if you send a secure message or call. The double dip is basically a gamble. If you get it, you’re a lucky SOB, if you don’t, you’re mostly like all the rest of us and chase has no way to track the transaction. I might try 1 more time with another $25 egift card just to see if I have to fight for points again. If I do, I’m done.
@ Sil, the points do appear under “August”, but since they won’t be available until September, I consider them “pending.”
I am SOL as the chase representative said they can’t do anything unless I can provide them with proof that I went though the Chase UR mall. I don’t have any screenshots/videos of my purchase thus I consider all 30k points lost. This has been a really shitty experience with the UR Mall and I plan to use SnagIt for all my future UR mall purchases to create a video of the whole process.
Nick: I’m sorry to hear this! If I were you I would call and PM over and over until I got someone willing to help.
[...] Source: Frequent Miler [...]
The UR Mall must be equipped to register a hit once you click on a merchant’s link, and track things from thereon (regardless of method of payment at check-out). Sadly we can’t see such tracking on our end, I remember another portal offers such ability (I can’t remember which one).
I’m out $4k on this. I might be taking a $800+ loss in liquidating my GC’s and at best end up with 40k points after fighting. That’s 2c per point. Yikes. Tough lesson for me. Next time I’ll take it slow (maybe, lol).
I made three separate purchases for egift cards on my CSP through the UR mall. And then I used 1 egift card to make a fourth purchase. This was all done earlier this month and none of the points posted. I PM Chase and gave specifics about each purchase. I am also missing 1 Lowe’s purchase. I was credited all of my points and given 2500 bonus points for the trouble. Was given these two examples to follow:
1. Please note that using Microsoft Windows 7 may not
receive bonus rewards for purchases made via the Ultimate
Rewards Mall website.
2. Microsoft Windows 7 provides the ability to launch
multiple windows in Internet Explorer during the same
session.
I have had success at Lowes on other recent purchases so I know I’m doing it right. But I am using a Mac and Safari browser so could this be a problem for the UR mall?
On another note, has anyone else found any good deals to filter out some hitting my credit card spends?
First I’ll share a data point
I have made 1500 dollar in GC purchases. Then got the double dip by using the GCs through the UR mall. All points post in 5 business days. I’m using Windows XP and I am running chrome. Before making any purchase I wipe out my cache. I also make sure my cart is empty before loging onto my sears account.
Second:
Has anyone tried Price Matching? I can’t figure out how to do it online beofre a purchase. I see how to do it after a purchase….which seems risky.
I’ve had really good luck with Chrome. My e-GC posted with in 5 days purchased with Chase SP. Purchased TV with GC and put $37 extra on my Chase SP on 8/11 and points posted today.
@ Nick – So when getting in touch with Chase via secure message, what explanation did you give them as to the double dip? Didn’t they ask you why you first bought the GC and then did the purchase?
@ Frequent Miler- You’ve had ALL your points post always?
Data points:
- bought $300 gift card 8/1; posted to UR Mall 8/5.
- bought $4000 worth of GCs on 8/10; have not posted
- USED $340 woth of gift cards 8/10; posted 8/13
- USED $3200 worth of GCS on 8/12; have not posted
Using Mac, Safari, and starting with an empty shopping card. Paying with Chase card for the GCs.
Double dip posted today on 2 more transactions. 2435 and 1000 bonus points on my Sapphire. So far everything showing up. I’m hoping it keeps up. The only touble I’ve run into was someone who wants to return a Nexus 7 because apparently the “screen is loose”. Unfortunately, this seems to be a known problem on some Nexus tablets…but now I can’t sell the thing as new anymore (even if i can easily perform the fix myself). SUCKS.
@Frequent Miler – Okay..this is asking for a lot, but is there ANY way you could create a .pdf file of a screen shot of your Sears double dip receipt (one screenshot of GC purchase and one of item purchase) and then a screenshot of UR mall showing corresponding points deposited.
This would help us immensely in proving our point to the Chase reps that points DO infact post.
You can blacken out ALL personal info (obviously).
Thanks.
@Gabriel, Did you sell the tablet through “Fulfilment by Amazon” or through craigslist? This is why I prefer CL, if there is an issue, I just point them to the device warranty site (most warranties begin at the shipment date if receipt is not available).
@Jay, goose.. kill.. 1..2..3..
@T3pleshot: I know buddy…
I’m just at my wit’s end..and don’t know what to do.
@Jay: I did not explain the double dip. I will be happy to just get the 10x points for all the charges put on the Sapphire Preferred card. I have escalated it to their marketing department, will see what the outcome is.
I was told by phone last Saturday that I would receive my 10k points for my Sears purchase of 1k at the closing cycle of my billing statement. It closed yesterday and I called today asking for it. I have been told last night and this morning by 2 CSRS that there is a notation that I will receive the 10k points but they are saying it has been escalated to the Rewards dept and it may take one or two cycles before I receive them. Should I wait or SM and inquire about this? I did not use my Chase card for the purchase. And also, I was sent a reply through SM by one person before that I would not receive the points but then I called the same day and CSR said I would.
What should I do? wait and see or SM and inquire giving reference to the phone call.
I purchased a $100 Sears GC through the UR Mall on 8/2 using Chrome and as of today I still didn’t have the points. I secure messaged Chase and the CSR said there was no record of my having made a purchase through the UR Mall for Sears. She did however credit me 1000 points without my even having to ask which was nice. The other odd thing was that on my credit card statement it said kmart.com, and not Sears, even though when I logged into my Sears account and checked the order the purchase was there. The CSR even stated there was no record of a Sears purchase on my card. I’d like to really take advantage of the 10x but it seems likes lots of people are having issues and I’m worried to make more purchases. Guess I’ll cross my fingers and give it another shot.
August 11, 2012, supervisor promised I would receive the 10k points for the 1k Sear Purchase without using the Chase card. Supposed to have received it on billing statement closing date. Called yesterday , CSR said I would receive it since promised, then called today, nothing but promised i would receive. Sent SM asking for it and was told no record of anyone promising any points. Called just now and CSR said no record other than I inquired about my 10k points…..I have had it with CHASE…going shopping elsewhere…what a waste of energy and cell phone minutes. How the heck did the conversation disappear!!
@sil
“I have had it with CHASE…going shopping elsewhere”
lol, you already did, right? IRC, didnt you use AMEX prepaid to pay for the first dip?
Honestly, UR mall is most likely not a profit center for chase, it is probably a loss leader to bring in more people to USE CHASE CARDS (at least for the first dip, like what most folks here do). so, they are not going to miss you.
I think you overreached with your 25x attempt, sorry. breathe, cover your losses and try again.
@T3pleShot, I think the UR mall is a money-maker for Chase. It’s Sears that pays big time with the double dip.
T3pleShot-
Thanks. I am totally fine now. I sent a SM expressing my dissatisfaction with Chase. Took a breather, had some wine, more wine and I am feeling TERRIFIC!!!
The AA portal recently posted a notice that Safari was creating problems with tracking purchases and people weren’t getting miles as a result. They suggested customers use Firefox instead. Perhaps the UR Mall is having a similar issue. I’ve been using Firefox and my points posted within a week.
@Ariana…. Naaa, that’s not it.
I made a purchase on 08/03 on Newegg, using Chrome, and the points posted on 08/07.
I made one on Sears, using Chrome, on 08/06 and the points have not yet posted.
It looks like Anita’s post #164 goes to show that my post #100 might very well be true.
Large amount orders are the ones missing. I made $10 test gift card buy that posted 3 days after. Even a Kohls purchase for $120 posted 3 days later.
since my $640 one is still missing, I would say, for now, anything under $400 should be fine. I am going to try that.
MP_Seeker: I just made a very large order so I should have another data point in about a week.
A $1000 GC order I made posted promptly at the 3 day mark. HOWEVER, a subsequent $3500 GC order is still missing and I’m at the 4 day mark. It was for a VERY nice digital camera I bought for myself, which is sitting on my desk and crying to be opened so I can check it out. I need a LOT of discipline to keep away from it so that I can return it if Sears/Chase doesn’t post the points (it was worth it for the points but without it, it’s cheaper elsewhere).
Hmmm… how to keep myself distracted? I know! Try to get one of those 50 GBP tickets from RGN to MSP (YEG)!!!
I’m going to post back as well, after my second $25 sears egift card purchase. I placed a staples order in the beginning of the month which posted in 5 days. I also placed a restaurant.com order which posted in 3 days, who the heck knows how this system works…
FM- Here is another data point. I made a purchase of about $650 on Aug 13 and points for $610(no points on tax) have posted on the 16.
A $1k e-gift card and the double dip for 3 cameras (all purchased on sunday 8/12) posted today on Chase UR mall. So far I’m getting extremely consistent results with the UR mall, and the double dip. Also consistent is that they post around 4pm, 5 days after the transaction.
So perhaps there’s something to my method of purchases since I’m 100% tracking so far. I’m extremely relieved that they all have worked and I hope everyone here gets the points they deserve.
for reference, the past 2 days have been posted under my Chase Sapphire account. So Sapphire and Ink Bold are working correctly. I’m excited about the Sapphire points since I should (in theory?) get a 7% bonus when the annual fee comes up in Jan.
data points- used safari for the Sears Gift Card (non Chase card)- no points posted but finally received a one time courtesy of 10k points for not using my Chase card.. Also, used Chase INK Bold for the $200 Staples and still haven’t receive the points yet. This time I used Safari and no points posted. Other times I used Firefox so I have to agree that Safari is the culprit.

I sent a SC asking for the points! (Couldn’t wait) and got a reply back saying that there seems to be some “error” and the points didn’t get posted so they were manually adding them to my account.
And my statement posted. Coincidence?
No sign of the points from the second dip. But I’m going to go all out Normandy on them.
From emails to calling Cartera and Sears…55,800 points is too sweet to forget that easily.
Will update with the results.
@Gabriel,
wait, you get 7% bonus on points earned on CSP spending (normal 1x) or even on bonus points (like sears 10x) earned by spending CSP on UR mall?
Sort of good news. As of today, my $4000 GC purchase from 8/10 and my $3300 appliance purchase from 8/12 had not posted. I sent an SM about the $4000 purchase and got a response confirming that my purchase had tracked and would earn me 33844 points. Obviously the SM saw the large purchase and misidentified it as the $4000.
I’d been afraid that neither the GC purchase or the GC usage transaction had tracked, so I’m actually happy to know that I got at least one dip. I sent a response pointing out that he’d identified a different transaction and asking again about the $4000. We’ll see. I’m cautiously optimistic.
Anita
How does Sears handle returns for store credit? I’m thinking of buying my mom an expensive mattress through the double-dip, but if it doesn’t suit her taste, I may end up having to return it. Can Sears process the return in the form of store credit (another gift card maybe?)… I imagine this would prevent the return from registering with Chase as a “return of funds” and retracting the points.

@T3pleShot
That’s my understanding of CSP. You get 7% annual bonus on ALL points earned…the signup bonus, and ones you earn…which should include anything from the UR Mall
Just another data point: used Firefox on Windows 7 to buy GC on Sears thru UR mall with the CSP, then purchased electronics with said GC (with a small amount put on the CSP) the same day using the same procedure. Proceeded directly from UR mall link to the item and checked out immediately. Had to call Sears verification line for both purchases.
Sent a SM since points did not post after about a week. Got a reply saying that the transaction was not processed thru the UR site. They then added just the amount I put on the CSP for the two transactions combined as a goodwill gesture. I’m guessing that means no double dip for me this time around… Guess I’ll try the Chrome method next time.
For all you Nexus 7 buyers, Sears just dropped the price to $237.49. Pricematch now or forever hold your peace.
@Vinod.
Did you mean pricematch with other sites or pricematch previous orders made at sears.
I dont think the latter is possible, though would love to be proved wrong (since I’ve ordered 2x nexus 7 last week).
This is the fine print for the 5% offer:
”

Heads up everyone! One my of e-gift cards was compromised!
I’m working with sears corporate to get the fraudulent order canceled. But if they can’t I may be out some money!
I have already purchased several Gift Cards and redeemed them successfully. I had one left because I was having a hard time placing the order. I found out this weekend that the balance had been depleted. Upon calling sears I learned that someone in New Jersey had used it at Kamrt.com (I live in GA). The only thing I figure is that it was compromised when I called sears.com. In a moment of frustration I called sears to complete the order but backed out at the list minute. I had already given the lady my card number and pin. Could a sears.com rep have stolen my number???? I don’t know. I suppose my email could have been compromised but I have e-gift cards setting my inbox from Lowe’s and sears. The only card compromised was the one that I gave to the sears rep.
Bottom Line – Order Physical Gift Cards if possible. If you do order e-gift cards use them ASAP. Never ever give the number to sears.com over the phone!!!! Unless you intend to burn up the card with your order.
If I successfully get my money back I will let you know. As it stands right now I’m out 200+ bucks!!!!!!
BTW – Sears will convert your e-gift cards to physical ones if you call them. The number for the Gift Card Department is 800-549-8151. That number is actually for the Corporate Gift Card department not sears.com.
No giftcards (other than Sears/Kmart) offered at Kmarts/Sears in my area. First visited two Sears and two Kmarts in person and when I could not find any, called three more a little farther away. One Kmart store employee mentioned that all non-Sears/Kmart gc’s had been recently pulled (from his store)due to misuse. Too bad, as I actually can use Ebay or gas cards.
Troop7: I hope you get your money back! Thanks for sharing the cautionary tale
Update-This time my $25 sears.com egift card posted in 5 days. Why is this so erratic? I did everything the same as I normally do….I’ll never understand. I guess I’ll just keep doing the $25egift and upgrade to BP gas cards to get 10 points per dollar on gas.
@Joshua – how do u upgrade the egift card to BP? Do u do it in store or online…please tell the trick
I bought a $100 e-gc (after losing 30k points as my $1500 purchase/double dip did not track) and that did not track either. I created a video of the purchase as well got a courtesy credit of 1000 points. I give up on this half baked piece of crap by Cartera/Chase.
@GMASH – I do it instore. The trick is to buy something else along with it. The cashiers really frown upon just buying another gift card with a gift card. I usually just throw in 3 cans of tuna and split payments between the gift card and a debit/credit card. Be sure your kmart carries BP gift cards though. A lot don’t.
@Joshua – thanks for clarifying. I had a follow on question – KMart will accept the Sears e-gift card or do you first convert the Sears e-gift card into a plastic Sears gift card before using that at KM.
everyone e has a different problem I’m still fighting to figure how a single $538 purchase tracked with the correct order number as on $216. I sent proof and many ,estates and was cordial until I realized they were all being condos ending. ” you didt use it right” or are you sure you completed e transaction. Or ” I see it is fine and meets now adjusting” if u see that it’s tracked 3200l less how is it fine??
Anyway days are running out for the big spending, anyone have a confirmed double dip on MARKETPLACE sold items? been safe and click sears only, though it hasn’t helped.
Also what’s our consensus for 99% working buying gift cards? Small or large egift, multiple physical, one order or multiple orders. so on.
@GMASH – Yes kmart accepts the printed egift card. No need to get a physical card.
Another data point:
I have also been waiting for my 7k+ gift card purchase and 6k+ merchandise purchase to credit to my ultimate reward account. I bought the gift cards with multiple chase credit cards, & the merchandise with a chase card & gift card combination.
I just received an SM stating that the points will post at the end of my statement. Everything has been tracking correctly (according to the SM), I just need to be patient.
Hope everything works out!
CaptainCool: Have you looked under “Ultimate Rewards Mall & Travel Earnings” to see if the points are listed there?
I have been checking & just double checked now – no points or any activity listed.
I had some activity for a $730 GC that I was worried wasn’t going to post since I did not receive an e-mail yesterday. I was going to wait until this evening to SM chase if I didn’t receive the email saying “you’ve earned bonus points!”
I just went to Chase UR mall and everything is showing up as expected. Intriguing indeed.
I’m also noticing that it appears to “post” in the UR Mall portal 3 days after the transaction. VERY reliable in this as well.
CaptainCool: I’m in the same situation (large GC purchase, followed by GC+Chase CC for the merchandise). Unlike other purchases which tracked RELIABLY 3 days after the transaction, these never showed up on my UR account. I sent an SM and got a similar reply you did — be patient, don’t worry. I pushed back with another SM asking them to ensure that these two specific transactions (I used Sears Order #) would post bonuses, since I was worried they were just looking at the earlier transactions that did post. Voila! I got the reply back saying these specific order #’s did NOT track through the UR mall. I replied saying that I made the transactions in exactly the same manner using the same computer and same browser, and attached screenshots. I got back the “we have forwarded this to the appropriate department and you can expect to hear back from us within 1 day” email. That was 2 days ago and still nothing. So my data point is everything worked great until I did a large $ transaction, then nothing. I recommend you SM back for further confirmation and quote Sears Order #.
@77w: That is what I found as well. As soon as you do a big order, bam .. it does not track. I did $10 GC and that worked. $100,$500,$150 GC’s did not track. I just don’t get it whats wrong with their tracking cookie .. or maybe its just the evil Cartera empire .. they are ruining Chase UR Mall just like they have ruined every other shopping portal from the major airlines.
T and C said not eligible for Kenmore and Craftsman which is what i want to buy. Anyone been able to receive points for the items? also, would it help to add other non kenmore and craftsman items?
deltafannow: the T&C means that you can’t get points on purchases from kenmore.com or craftsman.com. If Sears.com is selling the item and the “add to cart” button is there and doesn’t take you to a different web site, you should be fine.
I noticed that when I click on the link from Chase to UR store, Sears to be exact, I don’t see the tab at top that says something like “sam….” but rather ultimate rewards. First time it has happened. Has anyone ever seen “sam….” at top of tab. I used firefox and GC to purchase. If i don’t get it, not going to sweat.
I posted before about my $3K double dip attempt which I did on 8/6. After 7 days, nothing posted so I SM’ed Chase. They said they could see the purchases and it would post on my statement which would close a few days later. That gave me a lot of comfort, but the points still didn’t post. This morning, they finally showed up on my activity log with a posting date of 8/22. Maybe larger purchases need to have special review?? Also, as i mentioned before, they shortchanged me on the second dip by about 8,000 points. Still need to unload most of the stuff (i was hesitant to sell items at a loss before i knew i would get the points) but I think i will end up spending around $400 to get ~57,000 points (including the 1x points from the card) = ~0.7 cents a mile. Is anyone doing better?
Time for round 2! (especially with the sears.com sale today)
Unfortunately, I’m having problems with my Sears double dip, too. In fact, I didn’t get my double dip with Kohl’s, either. And this ain’t my first time at the rodeo – I’ve made dozens of purchases through the UR mall, so I’m very familiar and comfortable with the process. But this is the first time I’ve double dipped with eGift cards, and I’m guessing I’ll be out of luck. None of my four purchases have posted, and I used my Sapphire card. Frustrating doesn’t begin to describe it. I’ll probably be able to salvage the credit card purchases, but I assume there’s no way to lobby for double dip points – right?
Andres beat me to it. The points have posted finally. So this is great news and means back to double dipping. I love Chase UR.
Just wanted to provide a quick update on stolen gift card. It sounds like sears.com is going to refund to my credit card the amount of the GC that was stolen. However I will have to jump through some hoops and it looks like it will take at least a few weeks to get my money back. Basically in order to get the money back I will have to file a dispute with Chase and File a Police Report. Based on my conversations with sears it sounds like Gift Cards are rarely if ever compromised. Which makes sense. If e-Gift cards were regularly compromised then they would not sell them….or they would have better security. The real question will be if I get to keep my points. Of course at this point I don’t care that much so long as I get my MONEY back!
@andrew: What do you buy to flip? There is nothing around here that we can get from sears to flip.
@Nick, cameras are 10% off. DSLRs are always good to flip on CL.
@T3pleShot: I did buy some DSLRs but off loading them is a pain on CL. nobody wants to buy a $850 ($650 my price) camera for even $550. Its pretty bad.
Andrew and MP Seeker, thanks for the updates. I’ve received SM assurance from Chase that they see my two large purchases and that they will post, but they’re not showing as pending yet. However, I purchased 4-6 days after Andrew.
MP Seeker, what days were your large purchases?
Anita
Anita, I made the purchases on Aug 3rd, so it took a really long time. Don’t worry, they will show up eventually.
BTW, Chase credited me (manual adjustment) the original GC purchase. Then yesterday the points showed up as pending. I was really happy but I knew it was wrong. I contacted Chase and asked them to take back the 25K points.
Update, and good news: after a few PM’s with Chase, all my points posted today! A learning experience, to be sure, but I’ll do it again. It definitely helped, I believe, that I used my Chase Sapphire card. I wouldn’t try buy-n-sell any other way.
I made three purchases all in one day. $200. $5000. And $5000. All using the same browser and same cookies. Same exact click pattern.
Only the $200 purchase has posted.
From my reading of the comments it seems that the other purchases are either going through some extended review. OR: Cartera is screwing me over.
I used my CSP for first dip, bought items & resold with 2nd. Neither posted, I’m using Windows 7 & chrome which open up a new window by default when clicking through to a merchant, which Chase/Cartera tell me is why purchases didn’t track. I’m about 15 secure messages in with CS regarding my points posting, they’re trying to give me the line about only Chase cards counting. I tried to send them screenshots but they keep saying the attachments don’t come through…how convenient. I asked for a real e-mail I could send to to provide them with proof, they gave me a *fax* number. I had to fight tooth and nail just to get the points that I purchased on my CSP, still arguing over others.
Why the burden of proof is on me, when even the purchase made with the CSP didn’t track correctly is why I’m probably going to sit this game out in the future.
Data point- used Firefox, did not clear cookies, used GC to purchase $180 worth on 8/22, posted on 8/25, used UM through CSP link instead of INK Bold which I had problem with last time. also bought only Craftsman brand which states not eligible for purchase
So my points from my 08/07 double dip didn’t post. Chase gave me a courtesy adjustment for the first dip.
Based on what lots of people have been saying, I want to find out if it’s true that smaller purchase post with no problem and larger purchases take additional reviews.
I’ve made one $400 purchase and one $3400 purchase using my CSP card. And one $240 and one $2990 purchase using the UR mall but paid using a different credit card.
Will post with the results.
Thanks jay. Looking forward to hearing the results. My gc order from over a week ago hasn’t posted yet either, but its a fairly big one so I’ll try to be patient!
VICTORY!
My purchases of GC on 8/10 (using Chase Sapphire) and my use of those gift cards on 8/12 just posted!!!
I got 2 overlapping sales (10% of 2 appliances plus Friends and Family) so I got a great deal on my refrigerator and dryer even before the huge double dip of UR points.
I’m one happy Chase Sapphire Preferred customer
Anita
…now headed back to Sears to buy a new mattress!
Anita: Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My “Shop your way MAX” got shut down today:
Your ShipVantage/Shop Max account reveals a significantly large number of items compared to our typical user. The Program is not available for Corporate Accounts or for customers who purchase products for business or institutional use or for customers who are resellers (customer who purchase and resell the items purchased from the Sites, to a third party). We have cancelled your order. Please respond back to this email if you have any questions.
I have been doing the double dip $500 bucks at a time and may be had around 10-15 deliveries (for items priced between 200 and 500).
Good thing they waited till the end of this month. I am quite disappointed since I paid all of 2c for this shipping program (3 months trial)
@T3pleShot Thanks for the heads up! Time for me to redeem my 110,000 SYW points!
T3pleShot, was it just the Max shipping program that got shut down, or did they shut down your shopyourwayrewards, too? Like Jay, I’ve got a boatload of SYW points after all of my purchases this month.
I was lucky enough to hit VIP Gold this month, and August happens to be my birthday month, so I *should* be getting 10% rewards on all my Sears purchases in addition to my double dips with UR
Anita
@Jay, @Anita,
They have only revoked the SYW max shipping previlege. My sears.com account, SYW account/rewards still show up as available (As far as I can see in the profile, I havent tried applying them towards any puchases).
Anyone receive points for Craftsman products? Just saw it is excluded in the fine print…just like gift cards…?
IrishTiger: I think you are safe buying Craftsman products as long as they are sold on sears.com. The problem would be if you go to craftsman.com
I made a $4000 purchase at Kohls.com via the UR Mall on 08/24 and paid for it with a Chase Sapphire cc and a $6000 purchase at JCpenney via the UR Mall on 08/25 and paid for it with my Amex card.
.
On the 25th when I spoke to a Chase CSR about my Kohls.com purchase, she said that she could see my Kohls.com AND my JCpenney purchase being tracked.
Heck, I didn’t even mention the JCPenney purchase.
So, all’s well in my world.
.
Fast Forward to 3 hours ago. I haven’t received any email confirming the points, so I decide to write a Secure Message to Chase.
.
Get a reply back saying that
A. NOTHING tracked.
B. The Kohls.com didn’t track and since I didn’t use the UR mall (according to them) I wouldn’t receive any points.
C. Purchase made with a NON-Chase cc were not eligible for UR points.
.
So I call Chase.
The agent listens to everything that I have to say and then tells me that point C is 100% correct. I begin explaining that it’s not. I point out a $11.99 purchase made with a gift card that I received points for.
.
I’m placed on hold.
She comes back and tells me that there’s NO way I used the UR mall. I tell her that I did.
She says..now get this… IF I use the UR mall, then when I checkout, it would automatically checkout using the Chase cc. The very fact that it let me use any CC means that I was on JCpenney NOT through the UR mall. What….!!!???
I try explaining to her that that’s not true. And she gets very upset at me because I’ve been telling her that (“that’s not correct/true) in reply to almost everything that she’s been telling me.
.
I’m placed on hold again.
She comes back and tells me that it says right there on the UR mall “Check out with your Chase card and your extra points will automatically appear on your statement.”
I tell her that that’s just a recommendation and that nowhere does it say that NOT using the card will result in me NOT getting the points. And that there’s nothing mentioned in the T&C.
And that I have proof that Chase has given me points before…
She’s getting frustrated now with me.
.
I’m placed on hold again.
She comes back and says that She can’t help me any more and that she refuses to discuss this topic any further!!!!!
.
So, I tell her- forget about the JCpenney purchase. I’ll deal with that later.
I ask her how come I didn’t get any points for the Kohls.com purchase?
She says to wait till the end of my statement and IF I don’t receive the points by then, Chase will “look into it”
.
Things don’t look good.
And what really interests me is how did that first CSR see BOTH the purchases? And what happened to those tracking tickets.
okay…that was formatted differently when I was typing it.
Can the Gods please create a few paragraphs in there?
Anyway, TL;DR- I’m having problems with Chase. Again.
Jay: it sounds like you got a rep that I talked with once — she was quite adamant and heartless. I called back the next day and got a nice rep who credited me points. I tried to fix your formatting, but WordPress keeps deleting the changes
That’s actually the third rep I’ve spoken to today.
.
And they’ve all been telling me the same thing.
.
What’s REALLY pissing me off is that the first agent I spoke to, a couple of days ago could see both purchases and now suddenly they’ve BOTH disappeared.
New data point: I bought gift cards on August 17th, but haven’t received points yet. I paid with my Ink Bold so I feel confident that I’ll be able to get the points if they don’t post on their own. I then made several purchases using gift cards between August 27th and August 31. Of the four double-dips, my August 28th purchase has shown up already. Yay! Hopefully the others will show up soon too. I also went ahead and bought more gift cards. Now to get a Freedom card…
Data point: Ordered a gift card August 25. Bought some clothes using said gift card on August 30. Value of $67.xx each time, and got 20x back.
@harvson3- what browser do you use?
I’m out of ideas.
Chrome doesn’t work for me.
Firefox doesn’t work…
What the hell am I supposed to use?!
harvson3: Great!
Party time
My August Chase statement just closed and a nice bundle of points posted based on my many purchases in August
I got a refrigerator, dryer, grill and mattress. In addition to good prices on a bunch of stuff I wanted anyway (I hesitate to say needed), I have $230 in SYW Rewards and 100K+ UR points.
Happy, happy, happy!
Anita…you mentioned that AUG was your birthday month? Did you get the 10% bonus SYW rewards on your purchases as well? I ask because my SEPT ones haven’t posted yet…wondering how long it might be or if I need to *nudge* sears in the right direction
Anita: Awesome!
@jay – I use the Internet Explorer on our home computer that deletes all cookies when you close it and is used for nothing else but online portal shopping. I clear the cookies and start from scratch once I find what I want using Chrome.
Thanks. Will try IE now.
Gabriel,
I have not gotten my 10% bonus on my August purchases. I became VIP Gold halfway through the month, but I should get 10% on everything after that. I’ve emailed them twice but no answer. I think it is time to call them.
Anita
UPDATE: My points finally showed up exactly 3 weeks after purchasing over $3K worth of physical gift cards (listed as a kmart purchase on my credit card transactions). I now have proof of successful double-dipping for most of my purchases. I’m still waiting for one large purchase to show up. Clearly the larger purchases are taking longer to get credited.
Regarding SYW Rewards birthday 10% bonus, I called their special VIP phone number today
Rep immediately said “yes, I see you’ve received your 10% birthday bonus”. Unfortunately, he hadn’t taken more than 5 seconds to look at my account and he was incorrect – I’d received 10% for a single item because I used a coupon they mail you when you hit VIP. I’m hoping to double up on that one purchase.
After a 10-15 minute hold, he contacted their support team who will look into it and get back to me within a week.
I’m sure I’ll get the bonus after they review. Will post back.
SYW Rewards birthday bonus (10% on all purchases) just posted.
Note that when I got my welcome email to VIP Gold SYW status, it included a one-time use 10% SYW coupon code. I used that on my mattress, so I’d already gotten 10% bonus on that.
When they gave me the birthday bonus, I got ANOTHER 10% SYW Rewards on the mattress purchase (essentially 20% cash back) in addition to my UR double dip.
Anita
Anita: Sweet!
Double dip broken? So far my 10x for $10K of gift cards has posted, about three weeks later. But my 10x for the tablets has NOT posted.
STvr: I’m still waiting for some of my purchases too. I don’t think it’s broken. I think it is just very slow.
@STvr: I think you’ll have to fight with your points. I’m currently trying to get my $6000+ worth of points from them right now. I purchased part gift card/part CSP. They manually credited points paid w/ CSP but are giving me grief for the gift card use….
Anyone able to get points manually or after the fact when using a gift card?
So many guys call to chase in turns, is it possible that all the CSRs and supervisors know what is going on outside and makes more restricted rules?
Here’s my data. I’m really starting to get anxious.
August 21: Two $5K gift card purchases
August 22: Two $5K electronics purchases with gift card
September 6: Gift card purchases points post
???: Electronics purchases points???
I have called Chase asking if those purchases tracked and they act like I’m crazy.
CaptainCool: I haven’t tried that in quite a while, but I was successful in the past after multiple calls.
pointsmachine: It’s possible, but I think they would be making a mistake if they do so. Chase gets paid when people use their portal so customers should get their points
Stvr: I’m getting nervous too — also regarding a large merchandise order. My guess is that for some reason large orders are requiring manual approval somewhere along the line (Sears?) and whoever is responsible is getting hammered with work.
I had to call Chase to get my points yesterday. This was for a purchase made on August 17. When I called, I was told that they do not have a record of my purchase. I informed them I went to UR portal, and specifically clicked on Sears link which then took me to Sears.com and made my purchase. I asked why that was not tracked, and they had no idea why but proceeded to credit me my points.
This experience has me nervous about future opportunities similar to this one. I know it works for other folks, but it isnt working for me
I called/emailed finally got 10x points for the $1500 gc purchase. Did not get any double dip though. Also, with a second purchase the $185 e-gc did not track and the second dip purchase with the gc did. So got credit for the e-gc as well. A third purchase did not get credit for order placed using e-gc, but got credit for the order that contained the e-gc purchase. Everything done on each order was the same, so it totally beats me as to what tracks vs does not.
All of my Sears double-dips have now posted. I’m now only waiting for credit for more gift cards I ordered at the end of August. I plan to use those to buy gas gift cards at Sears & Kmart.
Can you give me a timeline, FrequentMiler? I purchased $5K of tablets on August 22 and now it’s September 13.
Stvr: the slowest of mine took 3 weeks, but I wouldn’t be surprised if some take longer. I’d give yours one more week before panicking
I made a $4000 purchase at Kohls.com via the UR Mall on 08/24 and paid for it with a Chase Sapphire cc and a $6000 purchase at JCpenney via the UR Mall on 08/25 and paid for it with my Amex card.
.
Just received the email telling me that I’ve received points for the JCpenney purchase. This was made through My Chase Freedom UR mall and paid for with my Amex card.
WOOOOHOOOO!!!!
.
No word as yet about the Kohls purchase that I made through the UR mall and paid for with my Chase Sapphire credit card!!
.
Points posted for the JCpenney purchase 20 days later. And this is AFTER ALL THE CSRs told me that they COULD NOT see any transaction and nothing had tracked. Guess it just took some time.
.
Hoping that the Kohls purchase posts when my statement closes in 5 days.
.
Will Report back with further updates…
.
P.S- I used Firefox. Cleared the cache and cookies before using. And I disabled ALL add-ons.
Congrats Jay !
Would you mind sharing what you bought from JC Penny? Was that something you really needed or there is some nice thought behind that
Actually this was an experiment. I bought platinum earrings. I wanted to see if the points would post or not…because the last time I used UR mall for Sears, I didn’t get the double dip.
No points posted for the purchase made with the gift cards. I lost about $600 on that deal.
.
So I decided to make a large purchase using a different browser and see if the points would post or not.
So far the results are successful. I am going to return the earrings. If the points get deducted, I don’t mind because I don’t deserve them anyway. If they don’t get deducted, I shall consider that Karma.
Jay: Great info, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing Jay!
Quick question – when you return u’ll get 6K worth of gift cards…wat do u plan to do with that..or is there a neat trick with that too
btw..you guys rock!!
Oh as I mentioned earlier…I made both purchases using a credit card.
So when I do the return, it’ll go back to the credit card.
I’m 99.99% sure that the points will be deducted. let’s see.
I do NOT recommend buying things JUST to return them in order to earn points. It’s selfish and bad karma as far as I’m concerned.
I agree Jay buyig for returning is def not a good practice at all.
question though…how did u get the double dip if u bought using ur CC. I understand u first bought GC using ur CC and then bought the product with some portion of the charge on ur CC again.
@Gmash: It wasn’t a double dip. It was a straight up purchase to verify 2 things.
1. Do points from large purchases through the UR mall using the intended (in this case Chase Sapphire) credit card post?
Result – Sofar NO… Haven’t received any notification. Chase says nothing tracked.
2. Do points from Large purchases through the UR mall using a DIFFERENT credit card post?
Result- SUCCESS! Used my AMEX and the points posted.
HAH! I now find myself in the boat of my first transaction NOT posting in the UR Mall Earn Activity after 3 days. And go figure, it’s for some sizable purchases (but nothing larger than i’ve already done). A $850 e-GC and a $1100 camera on 9/13 (the purchase on 9/12 posted). My question to everyone here, what’s the biggest gap you have in Sears purchases on your UR Earn Activity log? I.E. the difference between “Transaction Date” and “Posted Date”. Obviously some people have had to wait 3 weeks to get their points to show up, but is there still a 3 week time frame displayed in the UR Mall? I also wonder if this has anything to do with any previous orders being cancelled. I just recently had one cancelled (not by my own doing…by sears’s idiocy) and wonder if that is what’s affecting some of the points posting.
Gabriel: Yes, I have one that shows 20 days between the transaction date and the posted date. That was my first gift card order. And, I have one that shows 16 days between the transaction date and the posted date. It was a large order in which I paid with gift cards. There were no cancellations involved.
I made two purchases in August last week. 2.5K each, first for sears gcs and second with gcs and a small amount. Both with Inkbold. No points. Enquired 2 times by phone and 2 times by SM and now they are asking me to send written letter to consider as “You have exasperated your phone and SM limits”? What?
hsinaz: I’ve never heard that one before!
I was surprised too. Looked through the whole page here and no one has been asked for that. I will try and call again hope for a better CSR.
I am screwed! The points have not posted. Now I have $10K worth of merch.

Not sure if anyone is following this thread anymore, but thought I would post my final results as I just sold the last item I bought today. In August, I bought 9 Nikon cameras when there was a 10% off online promotion on cameras (4x D5100, 3x D3100 & 2x D3200). I bought $5K of gift cards and then spent $5,377.28 on the cameras (I missed out on almost 4,000 points by not buying enough gift cards). There were delays in seeing the points post, so I waited to sell until September, then I got busy with work, then Sandy hit (I live in NYC). I sold the D3100′s through Amazon fulfillment which I thought worked very well. I sold the other 6 through Craigslist which was a pain, but turned out OK. In hindsight, I should have just sent all the cameras to Amazon. Demand was strong for the D3100s and the D5100s but the D3200s really hurt my average. Final results: Spent $5,377.28 on cameras. Sale proceeds were $4,445,57. Loss = $931.81 plus $49.98 of Sears Shop Your Way Rewards = $881.83. I earned 95,689 UR points or essentially paid $0.9216 per point. Will I do it again? Probably.
Oh yeah – thanks to FM for the idea. I will make sure to put my next round of card applications through your links.

Has anyone received SYW Rewards points for purchasing gift cards, or just for merchandise? I saw the T&C state not eligible on GC purchases, and haven’t read explicitly where people did receive SYW points for these purchases.
Chris F: Not I
