AirFrance-KLM Group has confirmed today that they are placing an order for 25 Boeing 787-9s with an option for 25 extra birds.

The group has has stated they want the 787-9′s to operate with KLM first – due to commence in 2016 – and with Air France at a date to be determined.

The Boeing 787-9 is a lengthened version of the 787-8 frame, allowing more passengers and frieght to be carried with a higher range – according to Boeing – 264 passengers in a 3 Class Configuration on a 787-8, 280 passengers in a 3 Class Configuration.

Air New Zealand will be the first carrier to operate the 787-9, although it’s highly probable that the Entry into Service date will probably slip (like a lot of the 787 project so far) judging how Boeing is delivering its current stack of 787′s.

AirFrance-KLM is still negotiating its order with Airbus of A350′s with Airbus at this time.

KLM has decided to kill off one its feed network endpoints – connecting the City of Liverpool and Amsterdam.

Currently, KLM operates the service 3 times a day to and from Amsterdam. This will be reduced to nil.

The change in service will take effect from 25th March 2012.

KLM state that due to the economic downturn, they’re cancelling the route.

For those of you in Liverpool and who feel it a sin to travel to Manchester Airport to catch your KLM flight and connection, EasyJet will happily operate and carry you from Liverpool to Amsterdam up to 3 times daily.

Providing you build in enough connection time, you might also find by splitting your Liverpool to Amsterdam to wherever in the world in two, there may be one hell of a saving in Air Passenger Duty too…

One of the best promotions is thankfully back again – alas for US Residents ONLY :(

We all like luggage tags… yes?  Well now you can have some custom design ones with your own photos on them – thanks to KLM. Oh – and it costs nothing!

http://baggagelabel.klm.com/  is the magic link – however as stated – it is for US Residents only.

Now KLM… show some love to us in the UK and the rest of the world please?

I’m your host – Kevin – and I’ll be here to guide you through the maze of modern travel, and hopefully add some insightful comment and humour.

With GhettoIFE getting on for 2 years old, I’ve had a bit of a design refresh, and tidied up, so for older viewers who make it here – yes, it’s the same content will all the usual sarcasm as always.

As well as random posts on the days events, my trip reports and a few other bits, there will be a few “regular” slots including:

  • The News – Commercial aviation news in a bite size ripped to bits segments.
  • Trip Reports – When I actually go swanning off to explore the world.
  • The Soapbox – Where I get to rant and moan about things – Signed Annoyed of Birmingham.
  • Airplane p0rn – Yes it’s my photography lovefest of air planes All clean for work. Published every Sunday.
  • How to save money … so far on telephone calls and how to get money on flights back via cashback
  • And analysis on IFE and what’s happening in the world of IFE

GhettoIFE.com is updated once or twice a day depending on what’s going on in the world when I’m at my base, and a lot less frequently when I’m away travelling.

All the posts have a slightly twisted and humours bent, and of course comments are open. Please feel free to drop your thoughts in.

I don’t Twitter, nor do Facebook – so it’s traditional email through the comment boxes or direct at blog@ghettoife.com

Thank you for choosing Kevin’s Ghetto IFE. We know you have a choice in blogs.
