Sunday morning came with an endless stream of MegaDoers headed toward DIA with the dawn patrol of flyers taking flight starting at 5 a.m. (some of them were sighted at the bar just hours earlier as Saturday became Sunday). For those with moe realistic and reasonable itineraries, there was one final organized event — another Colorado Rockies baseball game hosted by the Jason Dahl Scholarship Fund. Interesting that many of those attending the baseball game were from the Canadian contingent on MilePoint. Sure, the eyes were watching the game, but after a week of events, the side conversations were still all about the miles and points. Among those enjoying the game — newly engaged aboard the MegaDo3 Charter flight, Waterside and Waterstrider.

Now, the back story. Seems that back in July at a friend’s wedding after a healthy round and rounds of toasts for the new bride and groom, Waterstrider made a one-off comment that maybe her and WAterski get engaged at the SMD3 since they fly so much. Waterski replied, “let’s not talk about that right now” and the comment was lost — owed to perhaps it was the friend’s wedding and champagne talking! But, for Warerski, that one-off, off-topic comment set a seed and on Thursday September 8, 2011, Waterski pulled off the surprise that will forever be remembered in MegaDo history. Now you know the rest of the story.

After the Hyatt executive presentation, the MegaDo crowd gave Hyatt a standing round of applause. And Hyatt was announced as the official hotel partner for the upcoming oneworldMegaDo in January.

After a fabulous presentation from executives of Hyatt Gold Passport, they open the floor to questions for a live chat and all questions were welcome … the first question: Who picked out the bathroom amenities, specifically the White Ginger! Other questions ran the gamut from “Would they enter into a new relationship with American Express Membership Rewards?” to “How do they balance the number of Diamond members?” The entire audience loved the fact that they had total and open access to those that decide the future of Gold Passport.

Jeff Zidell, the Vice President of Hyatt Gold Passport surprises the crowd this evening by offering up 25,000 bonus points to the couple that got engaged on board the SMD3 MegaDo. What a remarkable hotel partner for this event. Whew.

Among the many afternoon choices … baseball in the United Airlines suite. Peanuts, no Cracker Jacks but plenty of other things are contributing to this perfect day.

F-16

One of the tours was a visit to the F-16 base in Denver, which was only activated after 9/11 as part of the National Guard. The group leaves the hotel in a Disco van with instructions to meet “beef”. What a way to start a military installation huh? Well it turned a bit more interesting and one of the highlights was an engine test for an F-16. So imagine this: inside a hangar with a strapped down F-16 (don’t ask us how they strap down an F-16!) and they start up an F-16 right in front of you with the exhaust blue flames shooting back into a containment tube. Five minutes to warm it up, test and then five minutes to cool it down and a total “blast” in between. Yes, MegaDoers have done it all.

Here’s a happy moment for some of the organizers of SMD3 as they tallied the charity efforts of SMD3: Pizzaman (Ed), Tommy777 (Tommy) and Firefly ((Melinda). They have certainly earned a “thumbs up” from everyone for their volunteer efforts to make this happen.

The Star MegaDo3 raffle raised $7,600 on the flights and another $2,500 for the special LIVESTRONG raffle for a total of over $10,000. This is in addition to the more than $20,000 already raised for the Jason Dahl Scholarship Fund. For the SMD3 weekend, over $30,000 raised for charity.

We are EXTREMELY proud of the experiences and contributions the participants of SMD3 made for charity, applause to all.
