I recently wrote about the changes which are in place now with the Priority Club Reward nights, and also about the grace period available till 18th March 2012 to make a booking at the old point redemption rate. Reader David stopped by and asked a question which I thought I should answer here since others may also have similar doubts.
do you know if there is a fixed number of times that you can make a booking(s) under the old rate?
It would appear that this is a one-off thing (in terms of reservations) and I couldn’t make additional bookings after utilizing my points once for an older rate
As per my information and experience, there is no fixed limit on the number of times you can make bookings under the old rate. I’ve personally redeemed about 3-4 times as of now, and only one of the bookings was cancelled (however, the old and new rates were the same there, so no difference).
The preferred flow of events in this case is to make a room reservation on the Priority Club website, and then call the helpline, ask for the Priority Club agent, and tell them about your booking. They will be able to validate your old rates v/s new rates, and credit points back into your account basis the difference that exists between these two numbers.
I hope that works for you. Else, do stop by for more queries. Hurry, you only have 9 more days to make good on the old rates.

InterContinental Hotels’ parent company IHG has come up with a new hotel brand called EVEN it plans to launch in 2013. The focus of this brand of hotels is on healthy travel, and it intends to make everything in the hotel up to speed with the wellness aspect of travel.
According to IHG, they made a study over 18 months and observed and talked to over 4,000 guests, and found the common thread that the need was there for a hotel which could help them with their health and wellness even when they travel. They have identified 4 priority areas - exercise, eat, work and rest. The approach towards these aspects sure seems unique and lateral, which may be a good thing. Here is the approach straight from the press release:
- Exercise– Guest rooms designed for in-room workouts with multi-functional room amenities (e.g. coat rack that doubles as a pull up bar); best in class gym with equipment and group exercise activities; “Wellness Wall” for fitness options in walking distance, tips and equipment rental; personalized guest service to offer advice on fitness options, ideas and/or instruction; all baked into the service experience, at no added cost to the guest.
- Eat– Nutritionally designed menus with a particular focus on natural, fresh, fit and energizing meals – available anytime; an open air café and bar; free flavored filtered water with glass bottles available to fill up and take back to the room; free coffee & mini-smoothies in the morning.
- Work– Rooms with high speed Wi-Fi, multimedia ports, easy access to outlets, ample desk space; and social spaces in the bar and lobby.
- Rest- Rooms offer revitalization and relaxation, including hypoallergenic linens, powerful showerheads, natural lighting, LED dimmers and antibacterial wipes.
Check out some of the renditions on the new website www.evenhotels.com, for example, the luggage rack which doubles up as a workout bench, and signature flavoured water which is supposed to be healthy.
IHG plans to announce the first EVEN location in Q2 2012 and expects the first hotel to open in the early 2013. More coming soon!

I thought I’d pop by to give all my readers a quick reminder on the contests that are underway right now courtesy of the various travel services, which could help you get yourself some privileges or free nights in case you choose to participate.
a) IHG Memorable Weekends contest: Like I mentioned in my post last week, Intercontinental Hotels Group is running a fantastic contest for its patrons in India, Middle-East Asia and Africa, where they are giving away free weekend packages for a family and 25 free nights at Holiday Inn and InterContinental properties in the regions. You could use the packages anytime up to December 31, 2012. As of now, only 50 entries are being voted upon at the Holiday Inn page. So, it could be a nice free vacation your way (with Breakfast and Dinner included!). Check here for more details. Contest open till March 15, 2012.
b) Star Alliance ‘Picture your Upgrade’ contest: The contest has now entered the 4th week. Like I posted a couple of weeks ago, Star Alliance is conducting a contest for the frequent travellers, where using a mobile app which you download on your phone, you complete a particular task assigned to you each week. Each task runs for a fortnight, and would be as basic as clicking 3 different departure boards. Each task has a grand prize ranging from MontBlanc bags to concierge services for a year. And yes, the grand prizes are Round The World tickets in Business Class on Star Alliance for 2, and a Gold Membership for 1 participant from each program. You can run for the grand prize even by completing only one task. So, get cracking. More details here!
