Summary of Starwood Hotels May 2009 Stays and Promotional Value:

$1,500 in Starwood Hotels spending in May 2009 for 14 hotel stays earned:

$1,000 in points and miles for future travel

7 free hotel nights with a potential value of $500 per night ($3,500)

$2,200 in room value during my actual stays based on room upgrades and complimentary hotel amenities due to my SPG platinum elite status.

$1,500 Paid and an estimated $6,700 in hotel value earned from these stays.

Average cost per hotel night: $57.70

$1,500 paid for 14 hotel nights + 7 free nights + 5 free nights using points (Cat 3 for 5 nights) =

$1,500 / 26 hotel nights =

$57.70/night for 26 mostly upper-upscale hotel nights.

I received $2,200 in hotel rooms based on the cost it would have been to book the type of room I received at the different hotels. I was always upgraded based on SPG platinum elite status, always the preferred room view and several times to room suites.

I received an additional $1,000 in points (26,000 Starpoints) and miles (14,000 Northwest miles) earned from these 14 hotel stays.

7 free weekend nights were earned in May 2009 from the 14 Starwood Hotel stays.

I redeemed one free night in June at the St. Regis San Francisco for a $500 value.

  1. hi, 2 stays at the same hotel in the period until july 31 also qualify for 1 free night?

  2. As long as the stays at the same hotel are not consecutive nights, then they count as two separate hotel stays and qualify for the free night promotion.

Consecutive nights at the same hotel, regardless if different reservation bookings, count as one hotel stay.

  3. [...] has seen incredible promotions from hotel loyalty programs. My Starwood Hotels stays in May averaged less than $60 per room night at upscale hotels, frequently in suites, while allowing me to [...]

  4. Ultimately I redeemed 8 free nights from the Starwood Free Weekend nights promotion.

These free nights had the equivalent points value of 144,000 Starpoints.

    6 nights @ SPG Category 6 Hotels x 20,000 points per night = 120,000 points

(4 nights St. Regis San Francisco + 2 nights St. Regis Monarch Beach)

    2 nights @ SPG Category 5 Hotels x 12,000 points per night = 24,000 points
(1 night Westin Verasa Napa, 1 night W San Francisco)

$1,700 in hotel spending paid for 16 hotel stays from May through July.

The comparable paid room rates for the 8 free nights was approximately $4,000.

24 hotel nights for around $1,800 all-in. $75 per night after tax and fees for rooms.

I also banked 30,000 points during the hotel stays. Ultimately this $1,800 investment in Starwood Hotel stays was equivalent to earning 174,000 points.

I have received $6,000 in hotel room value and I still have 30,000 points to spend.

Full one-bedroom suites at the St. Regis San Francisco and Westin Verasa Napa are an advantage of hotel loyalty programs you won’t find with Priceline stays.

You may not have taken advantage of this Starwood promotion from May through July, but the Hyatt Gold Passport free night after two stays promotion from October 1, 2009 – Jan 31, 2010 begins in less than two weeks and hotel stays count double for earning elite status during this promotion.
