One big drawback of the Hyatt Costco certificates is using them for low prepaid rates. Some Gold Passport members have reported success with presenting the certificates at check-in and having the charge removed from their credit card.

I typically find AAA rates as low as the prepaid rates, but not always.

Gotta love Costco's return policy though. I ended up returning some Hyatt certificates in February. I was glad to see the Hyatt certificates return to Costco for the current free night promotion period.

I bought 2 $50 ones from Costco. I wanted to stay overnight near DC, so I tried to find a Hyatt where I can use my certificates. The internet rate is $70 + taxes but I cannot use my certificates to pay for it. If I want to use my certificates I have to pay 79 + taxes. There goes my $20 advantage :)

I will probably return the certificates to Costco and be peaceful. I will get a better rate and I don't have to safe keep my certificates.

I have to admit it was a stupid idea in the first place.

My feeling with hotel employment issues is they are local issues involving a hotel owner and managers more than the corporate hotel brand entity. I wouldn't be able to stay with any major hotel chain if I made a systemwide stand based on individual hotel issues.

Every major hotel chain has individual hotels being boycotted by unions and other organizational groups for a variety of just issues.

I respect local boycotts. I will not be staying at the Hyatt Fisherman's Wharf, Grand Hyatt San Francisco, Hyatt Manchester San Diego, or Boston area Hyatts under the current conditions.

I plan to be staying at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco. That hotel is not part of a union employees' boycott at this time.

I do not reject the Hyatt chain.

I would think twice about doing business with Hyatt Hotels. Three of their hotels in the Boston area have recently dismissed 100 housekeepers without warning and replaced them with temp workers who earn minimum wage.
Most of the workers had been employed by Hyatt for many years, inclucing some who had worked for at the hotels for more than 25 years.

I bought some certificates yesterday as well, and might get some more (need to think through my 2010/11 plans more thoroughly), given that there is no expiration date.
