Hilton HHonors has a variety of miles promotions for stays through June 30, 2013. Here are six offers.

Delta and United are global, but require two night stays and set earning limits. Emirates is worldwide and unlimited earning.

Las Vegas, London, Scotland and Europe, Middle East and Africa offer bonus miles for stays in specific regions.

Miles & More is only for weekend stays, but covers all Europe, Middle East and Africa Hilton brand hotels.

These are great opportunities to earn 1,500 to 4,000 frequent flyer miles per stay from now through June 30, 2013.

I will follow up with a more extensive look at the opportunities these airline bonus miles offer.

Virgin Atlantic is particularly appealing for London and Scotland travelers with 4,000 miles per stay. Virgin Atlantic Flying Club miles can be exchanged into HHonors points at 10,000 VS miles = 20,000 HHonors points. That is a hefty miles bonus for hotels stays in the UK region.

Hilton HHonors has filled the last quarter of 2012 with bonus frequent flyer mile promotions for at least 26 airline partners. HHonors leads all hotel loyalty programs with over 60 airline partners for earning miles from hotel stays.

Double Dipping for HHonors Points & Miles means you can earn bonus miles from promotions while you also earn bonus points from the Q4 promotion. The primary HHonors points promotion for November 1-December 31 is 1,000 points per night Thursday through Monday nights. No bonus points for Tuesday and Wednesday stays.

Hilton 1,000 points per night for Thursday through Monday nights on stays November 1 – December 31, 2012. Check out the non-participating hotels carefully. Register here for the promotion. Loyalty traveler post October 16 Hilton 1,000 points per night Thursday to Monday Nov 1-Dec 31, 2012.

For many members airline promotions are likely the better value earning opportunity for the remainder of 2012 rather than earning Points & Points .

The main question is which HHonors airline promotion should you sign up for?

Each HHonors airline bonus miles promotion is different. Some of the airlines allow unlimited earning and some airlines apply bonus miles to only a few stays or even just one stay. Many of the frequent flyer bonus miles promotions started in October and a large set of new promotions started in November. Most of these offers end December 31, 2012.

Hilton HHonors is offering 4,000 bonus Emirates miles after the second stay between October 1 and December 31, 2012. You must register for this offer prior to your hotel stays.

New members to HHonors will also receive 1,000 HHonors points when signing up for the Hilton HHonors program.

The main restriction to this offer is Hampton Inn and Home2 Suites brands do not earn Emirates Skywards miles, so avoid these two brands for this promotion.

  • Set you Hilton HHonors earning preference to Miles & Points.
  • Select Emirates Skywards as your airline preference.
  • Fixed Miles earners will earn 500 miles for the first and second stays. An additional 4,000 bonus miles will be earned after the second stay for 5,000 total miles with Emirates Skywards.
  • Variable miles earners earn 1 mile per USD$1 for the first and second stay. An additional 4,000 bonus miles will be earned after the second stay.
  • The 4,000 miles Emirates Skywards bonus may only be earned one time during the promotion. Read More…

HHonors is running double, triple and 2,012 miles through March 31 with four airlines.

American AAdvantage = Double Miles.

Air Canada Aeroplan = Double Miles.

US Airways Dividend Miles = Triple Miles.

Delta = 2,012 miles with two night stay. Does not need to be a weekend stay, but will earn a lot of bonus points too if your stay is a weekend stay when combined with other HHonors bonus point promotions.

Bonus miles can be earned in addition to the weekend bonus points through Facebook on Jan 17-18 and the 5,000 per two-night weekend More Points promotion through March 31, 2012.

There are about 450 participating properties for Aeroplan and maybe 475 for American and US Airways. Delta Airlines does not have a list of participating hotels at the time of this post.

HHonors Earning Miles link shows the standard earning rate for the vast number of airlines partnered with Hilton HHonors. The basic earning rate is 500 miles per stay, except 100 miles for Hampton, Homewood and up to 100 miles for Home2Suites. In most cases, double miles is 1,000 miles per stay (Hilton, Hilton Garden Inn, DoubleTree) or 200 miles per stay (Hampton/Homewood).

The column I wrote for InsideFlyer October 2011 is Matching Hotel Promotions to Your Travel Style. The problem with writing an article about hotel loyalty promotions for a magazine are new offers typically come out between the due date for the article (Sep 8) and the time the article is published and online. My Loyalty Traveler column on InsideFlyer.com is free for nonsubscriber readers.

The Travel Styles I matched with end-of-year promotions include:

Best Low Spend Bonus — Marriott

Best Luxury or Hotel Suite Bargain — Hotels.com

Best Long Weekend Getaway — Starwood

Best Upscale Hotel Extended Stay Bonus — Hyatt

Best Midscale Hotel Extended Stay Bonus — Choice

Best Miles Bonuses — Marriott

Best Road Warrior Bonus — IHG

Links to all these offers are in the InsideFlyer.com column.

In the past three weeks there have been additional high value loyalty offers that fit into the mix of best value hotel loyalty promotions for upcoming hotel stays.

Hilton HHonors free night after every four stays or 10 nights is the highest potential value offer for Q4-2011 hotel stays. $2,500 in hotel stays can potentially provide a $4,000 luxury hotel vacation on free nights. Almost all the other non-spend based hotel offers have a limit to the number of bonus points, miles, and free nights that a member can earn during the promotion. The exclusion list is the main impediment to making this Hilton offer a truly outstanding offer for the quarter. San Francisco Bay Area is severely impacted by the nonparticipating Hilton properties list.

I add Hilton’s Fast Ways to Free Stays offer to the Best Road Warrior Bonus and actually would rank this ahead of the IHG 4x points offer listed in my InsideFlyer article.

Other recent loyalty promotion offers:

Club Carlson for a free night after two stays at Country Inns & Suites Oct 2- Dec 1 for stays from Sunday to Thursday.

Wyndham Cash back and Double Points Sep 15-Nov 18.

Both of these offers fit well in Best Low Spend bonus category. But I still favor Marriott as the best low spend offer although Country Inn offers a free night with a two-night midweek stay and might be a better offer than Marriott for the person needing just one hotel stay.

Best Mileage Bonus seekers who fly Southwest can add Hyatt’s 1,800 Rapid Rewards points per stay October 1-Jan 15, 2012 to the list of high value offers, especially since this offer can be combined with the Gold Passport 5,000 bonus points every three nights.

Best Car Rental Bonus didn’t fit in my InsideFlyer column word limit. Club Carlson offers 9,000 points for a three day car rental from Avia or Budget for stays through the end of the year. 9,000 points is sufficient for a free hotel night at a Club Carlson category 1 hotel. Or you can exchange 8,000 points for 1,000 airline miles. Not bad for a car rental.

Hyatt Gold Passport offers Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards members 1,800 points per Hyatt stay worldwide from October 1 to January 15, 2012. This is triple points compared to the normal earning rate of 600 Rapid Rewards points per stay. A maximum 10 hotel stays may earn triple Rapid Rewards points for 18,000 Rapid Rewards points.

The value of 1,800 Rapid Rewards points has a set $30 value (60 points = $1) when redeemed for Southwest Airlines Wanna Getaway fares.

Hyatt Promotion Registration Required

Hyatt Gold Passport Triple Rapid Rewards points with Southwest Airlines registration page. You may also register by calling 1-800-30-HYATT (provide promotion code WN002).

How to Request Miles from Hyatt Gold Passport

Hyatt Gold Passport does not have a way to change your earning preference to airline miles instead of Hyatt points through online account preferences. Gold Passport members need to request Southwest Rapid Rewards points (or any airline miles) at check-in and provide your frequent flyer number rather than earn the normal 5 Gold Passport points per dollar. Even when you request miles at the hotel there is the likelihood your account will post Gold Passport points instead of miles.

Don’t panic if you earn Hyatt points instead of Southwest points (miles) when your hotel stay posts. This is common for miles earners. A call to Hyatt Gold Passport customer service can easily get the Gold Passport points changed to Southwest Rapid Rewards points.

Loyalty Traveler Analysis

Triple points with Southwest Airlines promotion can be combined with the 5,000 Gold Passport points every three nights promotion that runs concurrently through November 15, 2011. The ability to combine the 5K per 3 nights with airline promotions was confirmed by Gold Passport Representative, Hyatt’s company concierge on FlyerTalk.

Hyatt Gold Passport points are typically worth $20 per 1,000 points.

The combination of 1,667 Gold Passport points per night and 1,800 points per stay can be a rebate value around $190 after three one-night Hyatt stays between October 1 – November 15 when both of these offers are in effect.

Hyatt Gold Passport offers good value hotel rebates for frequent guests this fall 2011.

Priority Club’s “Up to 4x More” promotion started this week and runs from September 15 through December 31, 2011. The basic offer allows points earners to receive 500 bonus points per night and miles earners to receive 100 bonus miles per night for up to 40 nights during the 15 week promotion period. The maximum bonus is 80,000 points or 16,000 miles during the promotion. Bonus points or miles are in addition to regular earning for Priority Club stays.

Registration Page for ‘Up to 4x More’ 80,000 Points Fall Promotion.

Registration Page for ‘Up to 4x More’ 16,000 Miles Fall Promotion.

  • No retroactive bonus points or miles are permitted for stays completed before promotion registration.
  • Only one room per member per night will count for this promotion.

Up to 4x More refers to the ability to double, triple or quadruple the nightly bonus points or miles with stays in two, three or four different IHG brands during the promotion.

  • Bonus Level 1 = 500 points or 100 miles per night, up to 40 nights from September 15-December 31.
  • Bonus Level 2 = 1,000 points or 200 miles per night with stays in two different IHG brands.
  • Bonus Level 3 = 1,500 points or 300 miles per night with stays in three different IHG brands.
  • Bonus Level 4 = 2,000 points or 400 miles per night with stays in four different IHG brands.

Priority Club members registered for the promotion earn 500 bonus points or 100 bonus miles per night for stays through December 31, 2011. In January 2012 the number of different brands stayed will determine the multiplier and bonus points or miles will post in January.

Priority Club represents eight IHG brands:

  • InterContinental Hotels – luxury hotel market segment
  • Crowne Plaza – upscale hotel market segment
  • Hotel Indigo – upscale hotel market segment
  • Holiday Inn – upper midscale hotel market segment
  • Holiday Inn Express – upper midscale hotel market segment
  • Staybridge Suites – upscale extended stay hotel market segment
  • Candlewood Suites – midscale extended stay hotel market segment
  • Holiday Inn Club Vacations are six U.S. timeshare resort destinations. (The link web page states this is newest IHG brand.)

Market segment classification is based on 2011 STR U.S. Hotel Chain Scale.

The Priority Club Rewards Elite Qualification Factor

Priority Club Rewards counts all points earned as elite qualifying points with very few exceptions like points purchased for a Points + Cash reward. The ‘Up to 4x More’ bonus points multiplier happens in January 2012 and provides an elite status jumpstart for Priority Club members when these bonus points post in January. This is one reason to go for points rather than miles since the bonus miles for different brand stays posting in January will do nothing for Priority Club elite status qualification.

Brand multiplier bonus points posting in January 2012 count for 2012 Priority Club elite qualification.

20,000 points earns Gold elite for 2012 and 2013. Stay 14 nights in four different IHG brands and you earn 21,000 Brand Multiplier bonus points in Janary 2012 and two years of Gold elite. Max out this promotion for 40 nights with four different brand stays and the January 2012 posting of Brand Multiplier Bonus Points for 60,000 points earns Platinum elite for 2012 and 2013.

Earning Points at IHG brands

IHG Priority Club Rewards has three different earning rates for points depending on IHG hotel brand.

  • InterContinental Hotels = 2,000 points per stay.
  • Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Holiday Inn Club Vacations earn 10 points per US$1.
  • Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites earn 5 points per US$1.

Participating Airlines for Miles Earners

Miles earning base rates vary between hotel brand and airline partner. Check the Priority Club link for miles earning structure. International airlines tend to have a higher earning base rate for members spending less than $250 per hotel stay.

Best Western has a convoluted fall 2011 promotion offering double points/miles or triple points/miles for some stays from September 12 and November 20, 2011. The bonus is confusing since it only applies to every second stay and has different earning limits depending on elite status and whether the member chooses to earn points or miles.

Fall Promotion Details

  • Promotion registration is required prior to stays. Read the different promotion rules before choosing which version of this offer for registration.
  • Earn double points for every second stay (20 points per US$1). (see earning limit rule below)
  • Earn triple points for every second stay (30 points per US$1). (see earning limit rule below)
  • Earning limit: Non-elite members may earn the bonus only two times on 2nd and 4th stays. Elite members may earn bonus only four times on 2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th stays. (Miles version has no earning limit).
  • Triple bonus points: Stays in two different types of the three Best Western types (Best Western, Best Western Plus, Best Western Premier) results in triple bonus points. The additional bonus points will be added after the promotion ends for members who meet the two different hotel types criteria.
  • AAA/CAA members earn an additional 1,000 points bonus when qualifying for this promotion if registered using these promo code links: www.bestwestern.com/fallaaa or www.bestwestern.com/fallcaa.

Got all that fine print?

Best Western Rewards has made this promotion unnecessarily complicated for what is ultimately a relatively low value bonus.

Sample Bonus Points Earning showing why the order of your hotel stays matters.

Best Western Stay 1: September 19 – Best Western Park Crest Inn, Monterey California

  • $120.89
  • 1,200 base points
  • No promotion bonus points

Best Western Stay 2: September 27 – 30 (3 nights) Best Western Plus Victorian Inn, Monterey California

  • $143.20 x 3 = $429.60
  • 4,290 base points
  • 4,290 double points bonus (2nd stay)
  • 4,290 triple points bonus (two types of Best Western hotels)
  • 12,870 total points for second stay.
  • 14,070 total points for these two hotel stays.

The main thing to remember for this promotion is the bonus is based on the money spent for only the 2nd, 4th, 6th or 8th hotel stays. You may want to plan out stays to be sure the high spend stays fall on these alternate stays.

Using the same two stays shown above, but in reverse with the three nights high spend stay first and the lower spend stay second will result in far fewer points.

  • Stay 1 = $429 = 4,290 base points
  • Stay 2 = $120 = 1,200 base points + 2,400 bonus points.
  • Total Best Western Rewards points = 7,890 total points.
  • Original stay pattern shown = 14,070 points for the same amount of hotel spend.
  • Depending on which stay is second the total points earned changes by 6,180 points for the same hotel spend.

Bonus Miles promotion has an advantage and disadvantage

Members can register for double or triple miles with American Airlines or Aeroplan or Airmiles.

The rules are basically the same when choosing to earn double miles on every second stay. Members earn triple miles if stays in two different types of Best Western hotels during the promotion period. The advantage of the miles bonus promotion is there is no limit to the number of times this bonus can be earned and the hotel spend per stay is not a factor. The number of miles earned is independent of hotel spend.

Double miles = 500 miles on the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th and so on … stays for AAdvantage or Aeroplan.

Triple miles = 750 miles.

Miles can be a better deal for someone with low spend stays.

  • Stay 1 = $70 for 250 AAdvantage miles.
  • Stay 2 = $60 for 500 or 750 AAdvantage miles.
  • Double miles = 750 total miles. (Double points = 2,000 points)
  • Triple miles = 1,000 total miles. (Triple points = 2,500 points)

Bottom line is this offer is rather complicated and not necessarily worth strategizing too much over unless you have a really high spend Best Western stay planned. There are bonus miles and points to be earned, and with hotel rewards typically in the 16,000 points range, this offer might get you a free night or two or a couple thousand bonus miles if you frequently stay at Best Western hotels.

Marriott Rewards offers members 4x miles from June 1 through August 31, 2011 beginning with your second hotel stay during the promotion period. The design of Marriott Rewards site requires your member account be set to earn miles rather than points to enable the 4x miles promotion page to load. Promotion registration begins June 1.

Marriott Rewards members on FlyerTalk state the miles promotion and points promotions can both be earned if you switch your earning preference and register for both promotions. This makes it possible to toggle between earning points for the MegaBonus offer of one free night at a category 1 to 4 hotel after two stays which is great for one night hotel stays and then earn miles for longer, more expensive stays when the bonus miles will add up quickly. You just need to manage your earning preference by switching between  miles or points  to maximize the best earning option for each hotel stay.

Earn 8 miles per $1 for most charges at these hotel brands:

  • JW Marriott
  • Marriott Hotels & Resorts
  • Renaissance
  • Autograph Collection
  • Marriott Vacation Club
  • Edition

Earn 4 miles per $1 on room rate only at these hotel brands:

  • Courtyard
  • Residence Inn
  • Fairfield Inn
  • TownePlace Suites
  • SpringHill Suites

Participating Airlines for 4x Miles:

  • Aeroplan (Air Canada)
  • British Airways
  • Cathay Pacific Airways
  • Delta Air Lines
  • Frontier Airlines
  • Hawaiian Airlines
  • JetBlue Airways
  • Jet Airways JetPrivilege
  • Kingfisher Airlines
  • LifeMiles (Avianca-TACA)
  • Southwest Airlines
  • United Airlines
  • US Airways

Southwest Airlines normally earns 600 points per stay for any Marriott hotel brand, so quadruple points = 2,400 points per stay at any hotel brand.

JetBlue with this promotion earns 4 points per $1 at upper tier brands (Marriott, Renaissance) and 2 points per $1 at the lower tier hotel brands (Courtyard, Residence Inn) shown above.

Marriott Rewards Quadruple Miles

Here is an update to the Current Hotel Loyalty Promotions page on Loyalty Traveler.  Most of the major fall 2010 promotions have been announced with the exception of Hilton HHonors, Carlson Goldpoints Plus and Wyndham Rewards.

Overall the promotions have been scaled down for the coming months. The hotel industry had a good summer compared to 2009 and hotel room rates are rising around the world. The U.S. is actually one of the worst performing regions globally, although you wouldn’t recognize that fact from the rapid rate increases in New York City.

There are still some leading indicators showing signs of weakness ahead. A number of high-profile luxury hotels and resorts are in foreclosure and auction mode, but most of these are not impacting the brand signage outside the hotel doors.

Current Hotel Loyalty Promotions and News – updated September 8, 2010

The frequent guest has the choice of many hotel loyalty promotions with little guidance to their relative value. Here is Loyalty Traveler’s summary of current hotel loyalty promotions and limited time rate offers for the frequent guest. Newly added offers since the last August 20 update are marked with an asterisk (*).

Hilton HHonors is the only major loyalty program that has not announced its primary Fall 2010 promotion at this time. Priority Club and Hyatt Gold Passport have the best deals so far for fall hotel stays in my opinion.

Loyalty Traveler ranks the consumer value of hotel loyalty promotions on a Five Key Scale.

Five Keys = one of the best hotel loyalty promotions of the year.

Four Keys = high value rebate on the cost of hotel stays.

Three Keys = good value hotel loyalty promotion or rate offer

Two Keys = a bonus value if you play, but not necessarily worth going out of your way.

One Key = There is limited or no value. You are likely paying more than the bonus value.

Rate discounts and loyalty program bonuses are two types of hotel chain incentives to consider when booking travel.

Rankings are subjective and subject to change. Your specific travel pattern may result in some promotions ranking more favorably for you. When assigning a key rank I take into consideration the following factors and probably more:

  • The opportunity for significantly high-value return on hotel spend in terms of a future hotel rebate in free nights and discounted hotel nights.
  • Current loyalty program promotions and offers from other hotel chains.
  • Past loyalty program offers and rates for the specific hotel chain and loyalty program.
  • Current economic conditions in the hotel location and travel industry.

InterContinental Hotels Group – Priority Club

*5-key promotion – Sweet Dilemma – Free night after two stays or double points/miles for stays between September 20 and December 31, 2010. Registration is required and member must choose to earn free nights or double points/miles. There is a limit of five free nights after ten stays. Free nights stays must be used between December 1, 2010 and May 31, 2011. Asia-Pacific region IHG hotels are not participating in free nights portion of this promotion. A big drawback to the free nights offer is members will not earn any base or elite points for the remainder of 2010, even if the free night offer is maxed out after ten stays. IHG loyalists may prefer double points or miles.

*5-key offer Priority Club “Crack the Case” individually targeted promotion terms. My Crack the Case offer is a 5-key promotion, however, the best offers appear to be for Priority Club members who did not stay too frequently over the past year. Members who received this promotion have until May 31, 2011 to fulfill the tasks for bonus points. You need to already be a Priority Club member and check your email offer for your own Crack the Case promotion terms.

My offer was 162,000 points for five tasks and a 91,000 points bonus for completing four of the challenges: PC credit card enrollment 60,000 points; stay two Saturdays; stay in two brands, complete a hotel stay profile survey; stay 10 room nights. I can potentially receive 157,000 Priority Club points for just two Saturday hotel nights in two different brands over the next nine months.
