Best Western brings back a promotion from the past to celebrate historical Route 66, the ‘mother road’ from Chicago, Illinois to Los Angeles, California that predates the creation of the U.S. interstate highway system.

Route 66 passed through eight states and Best Western is giving 6,600 bonus points for Best Western Rewards members who complete two nights by June 30, 2013 at any Best Western hotels in California, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Missouri and Illinois. The two nights do not need to be consecutive nights at the same hotel. That makes this offer available at 745 Best Western hotels in these eight states.

Best Western Route 66 promotion registration is required before completion of qualifying hotel stays. The 6,600 bonus points can only be earned one time per member.

(Get your kicks on) Route 66 is a song from 1946 popularized by many artists including the original 1946 Nat King Cole version and many later versions by Chuck Berry, Rolling Stones, John Mayer and Glenn Frey.

John Steinbeck immortalized Route 66 in The Grapes of Wrath where the old road plays the part of a major character, the road of hardship and the road to the American Dream. Many travelers in the 1930s found in California the same devils and dust they were fleeing after making the long trek across the desert southwest.

Today, Route 66 is a nostalgic tribute to American car culture.

All in all, this is a good Best Western promotional offer for 6,600 bonus points for two nights or two stays at Best Western hotels by June 30, 2013.

My experience this month visiting National Parks in California and Utah is Best Western rules when it comes to having hotels nearest to the National Parks. This is a distinct competitive advantage of the Best Western chain in the U.S.

Earn 2,500 points by giving Hilton’s Facebook page a like and make a reservation this morning for a hotel stay by September 30, 2013. Limit of one Facebook bonus points offer per member. The catch is this offer is only for the first 4,000 bookings and the booking must be made by 10:59am ET this morning, Friday May 24, 2013.

Here’s how to earn 2,500 points:

  1. Starting at 11:00 a.m. ET May 23 and ending on 10:59 a.m. ET May 24, book a stay between May 23 and September 30, 2013 at any hotel within the Hilton HHonors™ portfolio.
  2. Return here to enter your reservation confirmation number, HHonors number, and required information. Act fast – to earn Bonus Points you have to be one of the first 4,000 Hilton HHonors™ members to book and register.
  3. Complete your stay by September 30, 2013 and earn 2,500 Bonus Points.

I dislike promotions like this where they are limited to a specific number of people. As the consumer do you know if you are one of the first 4,000?

2,500 HHonors points are worth about $12 to $18, so this offer is pretty much for someone who plans a Hilton stay anyway.

Remember this offer lasts only to 10:59am ET Friday May 24 and bonus points only apply to first 4,000 registrants.

Wyndham Rewards is the only major loyalty program that has not had elite tiers for members. Now Wyndham Rewards adds a Gold elite level for members who stay 20 nights in a calendar year in Wyndham Rewards numerous brands.

The only benefit advertised for Gold status are bonus points awarded upon reaching 20 eligible nights in a calendar year.

How does Gold Status work?

  • After staying 20 qualifying* nights in a calendar year, you’ll achieve Gold Status and automatically be rewarded with Gold Status Points that can solely be redeemed for a free night.
  • The amount of Gold Status Points you have depends on the average amount you spent over the course of your 20 qualified nights.

Average spend per 20 nights

Gold Status     Points earned

$100 or less           6,000

$100.01 – $150      10,000

$150.01+              20,000

  • You will earn an additional Gold Status Point bonus for every 20 qualifying nights, up to 3 bonuses in a calendar year.
  • Your Gold Status will last for the remainder of the calendar year in which you achieved status as well as the following calendar year.
  • You will continue to earn your regular Rewards points on every qualifying night you stay. Again, your Gold Status Points may only be redeemed for a free night; however, your regular Rewards points can be redeemed for free nights, gift cards, merchandise & more.
