Lufthansa announced today that it has received a 5-star ranking from Skytrax for its new First Class Cabin as well as for their First Class Terminal (FCT) located at Frankfurt’s Airport. For those of you unfamiliar with Skytrax, they are a research firm focused on evaluating and ranking the overall “Passenger Experience”. This includes the entire airline’s operation: everything from customer service, in flight product and passenger experience on the ground.
According to the press release, Lufthansa was recognized for the new first class interior being introduced throughout the fleet as well as for its Inflight Entertainment System. Also noted in the award was the quality of the hospitality that passengers experience from the First Class cabin crews.
The First Class Terminal received a 5 Star ranking based on the quality of the experience including the personalized service and various lounge amenities including day-rooms, private car transfers directly to one’s aircraft for their scheduled flight. However, I think it was the exclusive Lufthansa First Class Ducks that sealed the award for Lufthansa. After all, isn’t that the most important part of a visit to FCT??
In the press release, Dr. Reinold Huber (Senior Vice President / Product and Marketing) added that “This gratifying award with top marks is the impressive confirmation that our First Class belongs to the top rank worldwide“ and “Our passengers are delighted with our best class and the Skytrax rating encourages us to make the exclusive First Class passenger experience with new ideas and additional offers on board and on the ground even more appealing.”
I’ve had the good fortune to experience Lufthansa’s First Class Services many times over the last handful of years and from my perspective I can certainly see why they deserve these accolades. The key part of the experience for me is how the crew and staff take care of their passengers. You’re made to feel at home and the crew quickly senses how best to take care of each passenger. I’ve experienced other International First Class products, including Singapore, United, Virgin Atlantic and others. You don’t have to guess which one is my favorite based simply on how well the crews have taken care of me both on the ground and in the air.
I’ve written about some of these experiences, including my flight on the new 747-8i where I was the only passenger in First Class as well as a piece on one of my visits to the First Class Terminal (including a video showing the drive from FCT to my awaiting aircraft).
Some of my other pieces that covered a few of my First Class experiences with Lufthansa:

well deserved. I’ve recently taken HKGMUC and FRAJFK. Although both on 346s with old F seats, service on board was great, and ground experience at MUC and FRA were definitely crew de la creme. It probably feels even more “down to earth” than all that gold trim on EK. And the Rimowa amenity kit is the best I’ve gotten.
@jack: Glad you had a great experience. I agree with the “down to earth” feel. When I flew SQ F, I felt like many things were scripted and had to be done in an very exact manner, without tailoring much to the passengers personal style or need. Still a great SQ F, I just like LH better because it feels like the crew is being natural.
Skytrax is not a credible firm imo. Nevertheless I enjoyed flying LH.
Hopefully I’ll get good service on the 747-8 fra to lax!
