Choice Benefits for 2010 and 2011 as Delta Platinum

Posted on: December 31st, 2010 by: jason

I qualified for Delta Platinum in December and when I went to go pick my choice benefits, it only allowed me a 2011 choice.

Call the Medallion Desk at 800-325-1551 and ask them to manually insert the 2010 Choice Benefit button on your Delta page.

I did this yesterday and after a little bit of a run around, they added it for me last night.

I’m back to Delta Platinum again

Posted on: December 24th, 2010 by: jason

It’s been a while since I was Delta Platinum so it feels good to finally be back especially since 2011 is going to be a busy travel year.

I also sprung for the American Express Platinum card for lounge access and the mountain of Membership Reward points that came with it.

My biggest dilemma now is what to pick for my Choice benefit – Silver status for my wife or 4 Systemwide Upgrades? I’m leaning towards Silver status for her since the last time I was Platinum, the Systemwide Upgrades went unused as I was never traveling on an expensive enough fare.

Does anyone have any recent experience with the Systemwide Upgrades – are they any easier to use now?

If you are planning on taking advantage of the Delta Suntrust deal, you will need to act really fast.

To recap:

1. Open a personal checking account for a $55 fee and receive 15,000 Delta Skymiles ($100 minimum deposit)

2. Open a business checking account for a $55 fee and receive 25,000 Delta Skymiles. You can also add 4 authorized users for $55 each and additional 25,000 Skymiles each. ($1,000 minimum deposit to avoid $10 a month fees)

You do not need to be a resident of a state that Suntrust is in and your business does not need to be in the state that Suntrust is in either.

If you are interested, you will need to call Hilton Head Island Suntrust Bank and ask for Kris or Megan at 843-341-3101. You will need to have all paperwork in by December 17th and the opening deposits in by the 31st.

I had both of my accounts open in one day.

A busy end to the year

Posted on: December 12th, 2010 by: jason

As this year of 2010 draws to a close, there has been a flurry of activity in the last month.

Currently I’m doing the following activities:

  • Daily Foursquare check in to both Holiday Inn and Hilton
  • Spending $25 on all of our American Express cards at small business to get the statement credit
  • Spending the $25 bonus on all three of the American Express Pass cards (this one was targeted)
  • Making purchases on six Suntrust debit cards (1 personal and 5 business) for myself, my wife, and my mom
  • Continuing to get gold coins into circulation throughout the community
  • Reaching for the final $4000 spend left on the American Express Platinum Delta card to get the 10,000 MQMs for rollover MQMs for 2011.
  • Making 5 debit cards purchases on our Continental Chase bank accounts per month
  • Spending $1000 in 3 months on the brand new American Express Platinum card for 50,000 Membership Reward Points

As I look at this list, I see that this hobby has turned into an obsession that is reaping huge rewards. I am learning some many things from others in the frequent flyer community as well as learning to maximize the offers out there.

As our frequent flyer mileage balances continue to grow, I get excited about all of the places I’ve never been and will be able to visit with no to low cost.

I also wanted to thank all of the readers out there who have been passing along tips.

As I look to the year 2011, I am truly humbled at the opportunity I have to work at a job I love with a loving, supporting family who allows me to dabble in this hobby. I wish to each of you that your 2011 will be the best year for your hotel and airline mileage balances.
