American AAdvantage to Hilton HHonors transfers ending

I woke up this morning and checked my twitter feed for more information about Texas A&M going to the SEC. I then saw a a retweet from Mr Pickles in regards to the ability to transfer American AAdvantage miles Hilton HHonors ending.

My heart skipped a beat as my wife and I have been piling up massive AA miles to transfer to Hilton points so we can return to the Maldives.

Within minutes, Gary at View from the Wing had a pretty thorough write up about the changes in the program and also provided a backdoor link to still be able to transfer.

I ran downstairs and processed both of our transfers and even received confirmation emails of the transfer.

The transfer value used to be 1 AA for 2 HHonors – it’s now 6000 AA for 10000 HHonors.

Two things I learned from this:
1)Twitter is my absolute favorite way to keep on top of what is going on in the frequent flyer world. It’s quick, short, and easy. Follow Ben at One Mile at a Time, Gary at View from the Wing,Boarding Area, Mr Pickels, and even SkyPesos.

Even if you don’t have a smartphone, download the application Tweetdeck for home or work computer.

2)It was always my plan to transfer the AA miles to Hilton – I should have made the transfers long ago and now I missed out on Hilton Honors points because of it.
