  1. The number one feature I look for is free wifi. I use the internet to stay in touch with family, but definitely feel robbed if a hotel charges $25/day to use wifi.

  2. Comfortable bed. If I sleep well, I might not be as peeved as I otherwisewould be if the towels are somewhat less plush. I’m talking to you Courtyard.

  3. Presuming room cleanliness is a given (too optimistic?), I actively seek out a workable fitness center.

  4. Cleanliness! all else matters naught, no matter how nice the breakfast, how fast the wifi, etc…if cleanliness is lacking.

  5. I love a nice john, if you know what I mean! There is nothing quite better than a nice seat after a long day!

  6. the number one feature you look for in hotels is the quality of the hotel staff and room accommodations are paramount for this guy

  7. A good value, which means a combo of price, location and type of room. But if I am driving and in a city, free parking matters a lot too!

  8. After a few too many work nights out in the pub in london without food and long flights with crazy arrival times – i realized my need for 24 hr room service when I travel

  9. Feeling that there was value for what was paid…nothing worse for repeat business than feeling like I got taken by a hotel.

  10. Honest depiction of hotel’s amenities (e.g. no hidden add on fees, is location really “walkable” to local destinations, are photos of rooms ten years old). I don’t mind sometimes making tradeoffs in finding the right hotel room, I just want to make sure I know what the real tradeoffs are…

  11. It’s not so much the number one feature I look for, but the absence of any of a number of disqualifying criteria.

  12. No. 1 priority is cleanliness. As I’ve gotten older, I can’t tolerate the things I used to.

    Thank you for the drawing.

  13. Clean room and comfortable bed – no poofy bedspread. I like those that look like a throw over the white sheets that is washed regularly. I always check for this in the room photos.

  14. Definitely walking distance to restaurants and night life! If I’m on vacation I want to relax and be close to everything.

  15. Free Wifi. I know it sounds simple – and yes, it is. But most hotels make it something very complicated and expensive. A hotel that offers free wifi tells me so much more about the brand and how they value their guests.
