What happens when 10 BoardingArea folks get together in Los Angeles? Lots of fun and lots of great ideas to make our sites (I actually kind of hate the word blog) even better in the future. Nine of us attended BlogWorld in LA last weekend and during the day we learned lots of great information about blogging, and during the evenings we all got together and had a great time!
While we have very different sites, we all love to eat, have fun, and talk to each other about miles, points, and travel. It was a blast getting to know some of the other BoardingArea bloggers that I hadn’t previously met. I learned that the three female BoardingArea bloggers that were at the conference all have virtually the same day job – who knew? Here some of us are chatting during dinner at Border Grill in downtown LA.
The food and drinks were pretty good, but the conversation was superb. One odd thing about Border Grill is how the margaritas increase significantly in size throughout the evening. Road Warriorette got a great shot of that phenomenon – maybe we can convince her to tweet that photo so you can see it for yourself @RoadWarriorette. I guess the tip is to go later in the evening if you want ginormous drinks! Forgive the horrible shot of the restaurant below, it was the best I could get from a moving car!
Many of us were staying at the same hotel as a conference on legalizing all drugs, so needless to say there was never a dull moment around the hotel! It was actually quite entertaining with such an eclectic group of people. We also happened to be near Comikaze, a comic convention, so there were often people walking around in various costumes. I think I saw at least a dozen Harry Potters! Needless to say, downtown LA was a pretty exciting place, and was the perfect backdrop for a bunch of travel-crazed bloggers (ugh, there is that word again).
Other than the “after hours” social events, there was actually a lot of great learning and collaboration going at BlogWorld. Some of the BoardingArea bloggers may be teaming up to do something pretty cool next year. We also learned a lot about eBooks during the BlogWorld sessions. While much of the Mommy Points information is time sensitive due to the nature of miles and points deals – I do think an eBook about some basics of traveling with a young family without going insane, and miles and points collecting for families would be pretty fun to write. Hopefully it would also be fun to read! What do you think? Look for that as a real possibility in 2012. Always fun to try new things!
During the conference I stayed at both the Westin Bonaventure Hotel and the Sheraton Los Angeles Downtown Hotel. I stayed at both because I needed two more hotel stay hits for the Grand Slam….and because I am a crazy person. I will be reviewing both hotels later this week, but it wasn’t hard to remember what city you were in when you looked out of the window (using max zoom) from the window of the Westin.
I will save my full trip review for a little later, but it would be fair to say that I came home from LA completely and utterly exhausted. The time zone change coupled with the Daylight Savings time change certainly didn’t help. The night I got back, my little family decided to have a picnic on the living room floor. Poor Little C was so wiped out from both the time change and her fun weekend at Grandma and Grandpa’s house that she passed out on the couch and slept right through dinner. I have to admit I was quite jealous!
If you don’ t already read them, I highly recommend checking out some of the BoardingArea bloggers that were at the conference with me. They are: Loyalty Traveler; Aadvantage Geek; Points, Miles, and Martinis; Deals we Like; The Wandering Aramean; Frequently Flying; Road Warriorette; and Flight Diversions.
Also, remember that tomorrow (Tuesday 11/08) is the last day to enter the Mommy Points Holiday Giveaway that not only gives you a chance to win a resort package at the Westin La Cantera in San Antonio, but each entry also generates $2 for Toys for Tots ($1 from Mommy Points and $1 from the Westin La Cantera).
