Here is some bonus points love for some non-US residents!
I saw a tweet from @AwardWallet, and a post on Milepoint by KathlnJax, that Delta has launched a SkyMiles Shopping site for Canada, Latin America, Mexico, and the Caribbean.
To celebrate the launch of the new site, there is an offer that allows a person to earn 500 bonus Skymiles for the first two purchases – for a total of 1,000 miles. Presumably even a $1 purchase should count – assuming you can find that small of a purchase. This promo runs until 5/31/12.

Here are the (sparse) terms and conditions of this offer:
Limited Time Offer: SkyMiles members earn 500 bonus miles per transaction on first two transactions made between February 29 and May 31, 2012. This bonus mile offer is limited to SkyMiles member purchases made through the SkyMiles Shopping website and to members who register on the site and provide their SkyMiles number at time of purchase.
As to whether or not US residents can also get in on this bonus points action – your guess is as good as mine, but I’d love to hear if it has worked for you!

Hey great posting! I had thought to buy a couple of apps anyhow, so I bought Sparrow email client & iPhoto, to be used on my iPhone & iPad. I indicated Canada when asked for country, but when it connected to iTunes for the purchase prices were in USD not CAD. It’ll be interesting to see if this works, and if so how the 1 CAD/1 SkyMile maps across. Thanks again!

It says you can’t buy through the iTunes application, but when you click on the link in the mall it just launches iTunes…
Whoops, you are right. I just took the time to go back and read this:
“Merchant Exclusions: Miles are awarded based on the price of qualifying goods or services purchased, excluding shipping, applicable taxes and any special handling fees. Miles are not earned on the purchase of plastic iTunes gift cardsor on purchases made through the iTunes application rather than your browser window.”
And yes my purchases were made through iTunes app since when you click Shop Now that’s what is launched. So I’m not sure how to proceed.
I’ll watch my account for a few days. I speculate that maybe the exclusion written means I shouldn’t get the points bonus on the purchases themselves. But I might still get the 1,000 portal bonus points if the right hand and left hand aren’t coordinating. Will follow up.
Anyone else have any luck with finding any cheap eligible items for this promo since we can’t use iTunes?
Well it doesn’t explicitly say not to use iTunes — I mean iTunes is on there for a mile/dollar — I just don’t know how to make it count.
You can buy lots of $1 items from TheSource.ca with free in-store pickup. If you’re not in Canada, I guess I could co-ordinate to do a mass pick-up at my neighbourhood store

I bought a song from iTune. Eventhough it’s an external app the purchase counted. The miles (2) is currently showing as pending in the shopping portal.
