Happy Thursday morning! Weeks with a three day weekend just fly by for me, so hope the same is true wherever you may be. I wanted to make sure you don’t miss out on a few free points deals – especially since we all know that free points are the very best kind! So, here are a few quick points about some happenings in the world of miles and points.
- Get 500 United MileagePlus miles for registering your Visa card and agreeing to get text messages based on your shopping patterns. They will send up to three offers per week via text. While I am really not interested in any more text spam, I am curious as to whether or not any of the offers will actually be decent. Unless they are stellar deals, I will likely unsubscribe after my free miles post as I hate junk texts. The Points Guy highlights more info about the deal, as well as how to unsubscribe in his post.
- Get 1,000 free Priority Club points with the help of fellow BoardingArea blog MilesQuest and his reader Iron Monkey. You have to get a unique code from Iron Monkey first, but based on the comments on that blog, it seems to be a successful venture. I have not done it myself, but if you want to give it a shot head over to MilesQuest to get the details.
- As a Houston girl, I have been following the debate over whether Hobby Airport should be able to fly international routes pretty closely. Yesterday the city council voted 16-1 to authorize five international gates at Hobby Airport. The one vote against was from a representative from the North Houston area where IAH is located. That said, some of the council members that voted in favor of Hobby’s expansion did express some concern over the measure. Not surprisingly, United is now basically claiming that the sky is falling and that they will be cutting over 1,000 jobs and canceling the previously announced Houston to Auckland route. Now I could be wrong, but I am pretty certain that New Zealand is not a location on Southwest’s radar, so this seems like an apple and oranges issue to me, but what do I know. We are still about three years away from having international flights leave from Houston’s southern airport, so it will be interesting to see how this shakes out over the next several years. Come on Companion Pass to the Bahamas!
- Last call for the American Express Membership Rewards British Airways 50% transfer bonus as today (May 31st) is the deadline. I transferred about 90% of my Membership Reward points yesterday as I really am enjoying utilizing Avios for domestic and Caribbean redemptions. However, you need to do what makes sense for you – not everyone should move most of their Membership Reward points speculatively as you then lose the valuable flexibility of the points.
Let’s hope some more great deals are just around the corner!
