Update: American Airlines is now matching. Let the games begin!
I know Hawaii is one of the top destinations that people save miles and points for, but the last few weeks have just been tremendous in terms of very low paid fares to Hawaii. With fares this low it would almost be silly to use miles (unless of course you understandably have more miles than cash to burn). Today that trend continues with fares around $420 on United from Dallas or Miami to Honolulu. Tickets from Newark are also available for around $465. Those are round trip “all in” fares. Not only is this a great deal to get to Hawaii for a vacation, but these fares are so low that they are actually mileage-run worth (for those that do those sorts of things).
For example, the Miami – Honolulu fare can route via Newark. If you choose that routing, you can get 12,096 redeemable and elite qualifying miles for your journey. Of course, if you already have elite status you will get more than that with elite bonuses. At $421 for the ticket, that comes to a cost of about 3.5 cents per mile. That is very solid these days – especially to a destination that you may actually want to visit anyway!
I’m also excited to see fellow Texans able to get to Hawaii and back on United for around $420. The deal isn’t valid from Houston, but you can route through Houston… It won’t surprise me at all if other airlines (ahem, AA) match this sale though as of writing this I hadn’t yet seen that happen. Flights are available for various dates this fall, and you can get more details on The Flight Deal. Thanks to JakeRyan1 on FT for sharing the good news!
Anyone heading to Hawaii this fall on one of these recent low fares?!

Why would AA match this fare sale from DFW/MIA?!?!?!?!?!? If AA is going to match anything, it will match the fare from UAL hubs like SFO/DEN/IAD.
Or are you hoping AA would match from IAH, so you can get in on this? Ahhhh, I’m guessing that’s why you are hoping for the pricewar fare match.
@gregorygrady, of course i would love an IAH match from AA. But it doesn’t seem out of the question for AA to want to keep folks in the hubs on AA planes instead of having them book on a cheaper UA flight. We’ve certainly seen that happen before with these fare wars. Either way, great fare for people who want to head to Hawaii!

@gregorygrady — aa match UA out of DFW/MIA.. $397 out of DFW and $421 out of MIA.. so it can happen. No response from AA at IAH/DEN/IAD/EWR yet.
Okay your wish was granted AA is matching. (From their own hubs).
[...] Mommy Points has a great post about ultra-cheap fares on United from multiple large cities like Dall…. A quick peek shows fares in the $400-$500 range, which is really a great deal. If you happen to be an elite on United, you can also use Regional Premier Upgrades and Global Premier Upgrades to sit in First Class for the trip. [...]
Woohoo!!

Wow, outstanding. Normally I don’t see them match from their hubs but instead attack their competitor and match the cheap rates from their competitors hubs, which causes the competitor to finally back down and raise prices back up. Those lucky Dallas residents get a fantastic nonstop to Hawaii though for awfully cheap this time!!!!
[...] to Hawaii? Yeah, that’s what I thought. For those stragglers, check out the post from Mommy Points, and here’s something for the rest of you wondering what else is going on [...]
That was pretty awesome on the match – hope some folks got in on it!
Oh lord…. This is tempting…
Does Delta Price Match?
