I just received an offer via email from British Airways that I thought was worthy of sharing. The email says:
We’re on a mission to make you the happiest flyer in the world. Yes, you. So to thank you for flying with us, we’ve set aside 75 million bonus Avios in our Happiness Fund for our Executive Club members.
Simply register, then book a qualifying, round-trip, transatlantic flight in any cabin* and fly as an Executive Club member between now and May 31, 2013, for 20,000 bonus Avios on every round-trip. And when you book and fly five round-trips, you can claim an extra 100,000. That’s 200,000 bonus Avios with your name on them!
It goes on to say, “to help you earn the most Avios possible, this generous offer is available on more than just British Airways flights. Thanks to our enhanced relationship, you’ll be able to fly and accumulate bonus Avios on qualifying British Airways, American Airlines, Iberia, and OpenSkies transatlantic flights. You’ll have more destinations to visit, even more ways to get there, and above all, more opportunities to earn bonus Avios.“
Of course there are other stipulations such as must reside in the US or Canada, not applicable to bookings made before registering, not valid with discount economy fare classes, yada, yada, yada. You can register and view the full list of rules on this page.
If you happen to have some paid qualifying flights on these airlines in your future this spring, this is a very good way to earn some extra rewards for your travels. It doesn’t mesh with my own personal travel plans, but hopefully it does with some of yours!

Searching itamatrix, it appears that the fares from LAX to LHR are in the low $1800s for the qualifying codes ($1968 on BA World Traveler Plus). Since 20,000 Avios equal about $360 in value, that is not enough of a discount when the economy fares are $963ai. Is there a way to search for the qualifying rate codes so one can find a $1200 or less fare?

You can designate the fare class using /f bc=*** and replace *** with the fare class you’re interested in.
I also was crap in geometry, Scott.
Using that formula, can you see any sub $1200-1300 fares on AA or BA beteween now and May 31 LAX-LHR.
I’d be indebted if you were able to find any…
Don’t use geometry, but rather algebra – and it should then work.

Time to pick-up my kiddo so I don’t have time to play with ITA right now, but I would say it is often the case that these deals are only worth it if it applies to a ticket (in a fare class) you were going to buy anyway. Always possible there is a gem somewhere in there, and others feel free to share if you find one.
Narayana, yes. Apologies, I don’t know the surcharges off-hand, I would recommend playing with the BA website to find out for sure.
AA now has pretty much the same offer going, so you can earn AA miles instead of Avios:
