US Airways 50% Hotel Bonus Points Posting

Over the weekend I received messages letting me know that the bonus miles via the recent US Airways 50% hotel point transfer bonus were posting.  Today I checked my own US Airways account and saw that my 50% bonus on transferred Wyndham Reward points has indeed posted! I had obtained those Wyndham Reward points very cheaply via the 2012 Daily Getaways promotion (which is returning next month), so in the… Read the Rest.

American’s New Boarding Policy and Does Early Boarding Matter to You?

As you have likely already read, American Airlines has just enacted a new policy where if you are traveling without overhead luggage, you can now board before Group 2 boarding. The point behind this is to try to get the planes loaded faster. To avoid checked bag fees, and the risk of your checked bags being delayed or lost, more and more of us are trying to carry on everything… Read the Rest.

Lower Fares Trump Loyalty and Elite Benefits

I make no apologies for valuing and stretching for elite status. It certainly isn’t for everyone, and wouldn’t be worth it if I didn’t travel as much as I do, but I have found that the benefits outweigh the costs for me and my family. That said, in this case, my “loyalty” can be bought for a price. Or rather, it can be lost with a high enough price. Here’s… Read the Rest.

Aeroplan Award Search Tool Improvement – I’m the Last to Know

I don’t spend the majority of my days online searching for award tickets.  Instead I spend them doing exotic things like laundry, attending PTA meetings, and scrubbing the floor.  However, today my mom and aunt announced they were going to go to Europe together to celebrate both of their retirements from teaching.  I am so very excited for them, and now am fully vested in helping them do it largely… Read the Rest.

Houston – Boston Round Trip on US Airways in June for $152 all-in

Update: As expected, the fare didn’t last long.  Wish it would have hung around a tad longer, but not this time.  Best anyone is seeing now is in the $240ish range (which isn’t bad if you were planning on going to Boston anyway).  Living in Houston (a United hub), we rarely see really great fares on Star Alliance partners.  Often if I see a tremendous deal on airfare on a… Read the Rest.

(Try to) Book Holiday Flights – Southwest Schedule Open Through 1/5/14

Unlike some of the legacy airlines, Southwest doesn’t have a schedule that is constantly open for roughly 11 months out.  Instead, they open it up in phases for 8-9 months out at a time.  Just yesterday they opened their schedule through January 5, 2014.  This means you can now use points, credits, or cash to book holiday flights on Southwest.  This is great news for families that want to make… Read the Rest.

Free American Airlines Admiral’s Club Pass With 55+ Klout Score

I just scored a free Admirals Club (airport lounge) pass valid through July 31st thanks to my “Klout Score”. Your Klout Score measures your social media importance, connectedness, influence, or something like that. I’m sure I should have a better explanation as a blogger, but that’s all I got. My Klout score was a 58 and that scored me a pass that I immediately was able to print.  Update: seems… Read the Rest.

European Trip Review: United BusinessFirst London to Houston

The morning of our scheduled return from London, we were awoken early by my husband’s phone regularly going off with a warning that our booked US Airways Envoy Suites award flight was delayed…and delayed more…and then delayed even more. It was pre-dawn when we realized we would mis-connect in Charlotte due to the delay. I tried calling US Airways to make sure we had proactively been put on the next… Read the Rest.

Southwest Intros “No Show Fee”, but Still Top Dog in No Change Fees

One of my favorite lines at the Randy Peterson Executive Travel Summit was from a former American Airlines big wig about how people still believe that Southwest is a low-cost airline…even though that hasn’t really been true for a long time.  Don’t get me wrong, Southwest does still have great sales from time to time, but their base fares aren’t often much different than anyone else’s.  Compare that to Spirit… Read the Rest.

Good 2014 Europe Off-Peak Availability Via US Airways (30K Miles RT)

One of my favorite airline redemptions so far was my US Airways Envoy Suites business class round trip ticket to Europe earlier this year. It rang it at just 55,000 US Airways miles for roundtrip off-peak business class seats to Europe. It was a great value for a great flight.  Sadly US Airways has since removed the option for off-peak business class flights to Europe, but they have retained that… Read the Rest.
