First, apologies for the brevity of this post. My own lovely toddler thought that it would be fun to wake up in the middle of the night yesterday meowing (yes, like a cat), so sleep was in short supply. I’m out of my old “up for middle of the night feedings routine”, so it’s an early bedtime for me today. That said, I couldn’t ignore this USA Today article I… Read the Rest.

One of the questions I get/stories I hear with some regularity, relates to families trying to get seats together on the plane without paying extra to do so. This is an issue that won’t effect some readers of this site who have elite status with one airline or another, but for many readers who don’t hold elite status (including me), this is a very real issue. What has happened over… Read the Rest.

I browse online for clothes, home decor, and airfare that I don’t need/can’t afford (everyone does that, right?!), so while doing that today I found some info I want to pass along in case it helps anyone else out. I posted earlier today about the limited time British Airways sale that involves business class round trip tickets to London from several US cities for less than $2000 in honor of… Read the Rest.

Tomorrow (Thursday), Day 19 of the Daily Getaways brings us Choice Privileges points. These packages are promoted as two or three nights in various types of Choice hotels, but what really matters is the number of points that come with the package. You can redeem those points however you wish once they are deposited in your account. The points range from 32,000 to 40,000 per package. My parents frequent hotels… Read the Rest.

Update – didn’t take long and the fares went back up. Congrats on anyone who got in! I recently wrote about the sort-of mileage run that I did from Houston to San Francisco. I loved my one night in San Francisco and wished I had more time there, but the reality that mileage running is not really ideal for families was emphasized when the severe weather at DFW could have… Read the Rest.

Are the “Airline Gods” trying to tell me something? My AA mileage run has turned into a direct flight home on United…..my hometown airline. I think it might be a sign. Due to the tornadoes and storms in DFW last night, all Hell has broken loose on the AA network, especially with flights going through Dallas. I was not surprised in the least when I was automatically re-booked on an… Read the Rest.

Today I needed to make a change to a United award ticket I have booked. I needed to change the departure date by one day on a flight that is still several months away. On the new day that I needed to go there was a direct flight available, whereas on the day I was previously booked all available reward flights required a connection. Since I will be traveling on… Read the Rest.

Today is the day that the months of playing the US Airways Grand Slam last fall paid off. Well, at least one of the days, I suppose the days we are on are trip are really when they will pay off, but securing the award availability you want is pretty exciting by itself. I played the Grand Slam with a specific goal in mind – two tickets in US Airways… Read the Rest.

Presumably, airline ticket purchases are a type of purchase that all traveling families have from time to time. Heck, you can’t necessarily always use miles and points for tickets…and even if you could, sometimes it just doesn’t make sense to do so. Since this is an expense we all have, it makes sense to get as many points as possible for those purchases. I’ll share the way I have found… Read the Rest.

In the months leading up to Continental and United finalizing their merger, the two companies aligned many of their fees and policies. However, they did not align all policies in advance, which left many of us guessing which policy would prevail post-merger: the Continental policy, or the United policy. One of the areas in which the two airlines never shared the same policy was holding award tickets prior to purchase. … Read the Rest.
