A Family Guide to Category Bonuses – Part 1

This post is alternatively titled, “Never Earn 1x Again.”  “Never” should really be in quotes as sometimes family life is a little too crazy or busy to never just earn 1x, but it can be the very rare exception with a little planning and thought.  At the Frequent Traveler University, there was some discussion about category bonuses on credit cards (for example 3x on groceries with the Amex Premier Rewards… Read the Rest.

How to Maximize Points for Airline Ticket Purchases

Presumably, airline ticket purchases are a type of purchase that all traveling families have from time to time.  Heck, you can’t necessarily always use miles and points for tickets…and even if you could, sometimes it just doesn’t make sense to do so.  Since this is an expense we all have, it makes sense to get as many points as possible for those purchases.  I’ll share the way I have found… Read the Rest.

Missing Amex Referral Points: Grandma Points’ Outcome

In case you missed the beginning of this story, my mom referred several Mommy Points’ readers for the American Express Premier Rewards Gold card offer back when the public offer was only 15,000 points, and the only way you could get 25,000 Membership Rewards points for signing up and meeting the spending requirement was via a referral from a current card member.  (Though you can now get that bonus on… Read the Rest.

Earn Miles and Points for your iPad 3 aka “Buy an iPad 3, Get a Flight for Free”

As is typical with new Apple products, pre-orders for the iPad3 before today’s official release date did not qualify for points through various shopping portals.  However, now that the product has been officially released, those restrictions have also been relaxed.  So, if you find yourself waiting in a mile long line at your local Apple store for the iPad3, you may want to reconsider and place your order online first… Read the Rest.

More on the 50% Membership Rewards Transfer Bonus to British Airways

I posted earlier today that I literally did a happy dance when I saw that a 50% transfer bonus had been launched from American Express Membership Rewards to British Airways, and I really did.  In my office….by myself.  There have been lots of posts today in the miles and points blogosphere about the transfer bonus and how to maximize some of the best uses for Avios points, so I will… Read the Rest.

20% Discount When Redeeming Membership Rewards Points for Pottery Barn, Neiman Marcus and Others (Possibly Targeted)

Redeeming Membership Reward points for gift cards is pretty much never going to get you a great redemption value for your points.  Typically, when you redeem Membership Reward points for gift cards you get $0.01 value for each point redeemed.  However, right now select gift cards are available for 20% fewer points on some accounts.  That means you are getting $0.0125 value for each point.  Not great, but certainly better… Read the Rest.

Turn Hotel Points Into US Airways Dividend Miles With 50% Bonus!

As has already been posted on View From the Wing and One Mile at a Time, US Airways is running a special until 3/31 while you can get a 50% bonus on all hotel points transferred into the Dividend Miles program.  It should come as no surprise that this US Airways Grand Slam junkie really loves US Airways miles.  Especially for their 60,000 mile round-trip off-peak ticket to Europe in… Read the Rest.

Update on the American Express Financial Review

A few weeks ago I posted about the unexpected Financial Review that American Express required my mom (aka Grandma Points) to go through if she wanted to keep her Amex account open.  It was unexpected to us as she is not a real card churner, has only one Amex card, does not use it heavily, doesn’t make any unusual purchases, etc.  She did add four family members as authorized users… Read the Rest.

End of February Reminders (Elite Status, Continental Card, AirTran Membership Rewards, and more)

I know February is a short month, but dang did it ever fly by!  This is a busy time of year in the miles and points world since elite status with most programs runs through the end of February for the previous year.  On top of that, there are some other promotions and opportunities that are ending as the calendar turns to March, so here are a few reminders about… Read the Rest.

When Points are Pointless

Another post from The Man… Before I met Mommy Points, I had a motorcycle, a truck, and a nice boat.  Although there was a three year hiatus without a truck, one has returned to the fleet.  Sadly, the motorcycle hasn’t been replaced, partly because I have no time to ride, partly because we’ve moved to an area where I don’t know any other riders, and partly because they scare the… Read the Rest.
