(Try to) Book Holiday Flights – Southwest Schedule Open Through 1/5/14

Unlike some of the legacy airlines, Southwest doesn’t have a schedule that is constantly open for roughly 11 months out.  Instead, they open it up in phases for 8-9 months out at a time.  Just yesterday they opened their schedule through January 5, 2014.  This means you can now use points, credits, or cash to book holiday flights on Southwest.  This is great news for families that want to make… Read the Rest.

Southwest Intros “No Show Fee”, but Still Top Dog in No Change Fees

One of my favorite lines at the Randy Peterson Executive Travel Summit was from a former American Airlines big wig about how people still believe that Southwest is a low-cost airline…even though that hasn’t really been true for a long time.  Don’t get me wrong, Southwest does still have great sales from time to time, but their base fares aren’t often much different than anyone else’s.  Compare that to Spirit… Read the Rest.

How to Get Seats Together as a Family on Southwest

One of my daughter’s first flights when she was still very young was on Southwest.  We were heading to Disney World to meet up with family, and I was able to use some free flights I had earned from work to get us there on Southwest.  I don’t fly them as much anymore since I don’t have the same job that earned me Southwest credits (now points), and I no… Read the Rest.

More AirTran Flights Now Bookable Via Southwest (Hurray Points and CP!)

I posted a little while back that a small number of routes on AirTran were bookable via the Southwest website, but some searching today revealed that there are now an increased number of AirTran flights bookable via Southwest.  This is not surprising given that the two airlines are merging, but it is still really great news for a number of reasons.  Three big reasons this is a noteworthy development are:… Read the Rest.

Mini Points and Minor Updates

I want to share a few quick updates about some things in the miles and points world…. This site and all of BoardingArea will be moving to a fancier server starting tonight.  My normal morning post will go out late tonight, so there will still be some new content for anyone who would like to visit tomorrow morning while drinking their requisite cup of coffee, but the ability to comment… Read the Rest.

$49, $89, $119, $149 Southwest Sale – Others Matching!

There is currently a Southwest sale going on where the flights are priced based on the distance of the flight at either $49, $89, $119, or $149 each way.  This is the type of Southwest sale that is actually pretty good.  In fact, I make many of my bookings during these type of sales as other airlines have a tendency to match on routes that otherwise are often much more… Read the Rest.

End of Month “Last Calls” and Other Quick Updates

Here are a few quick reminders and odds and ends as we head toward the end of the month tomorrow…. The usual advice regarding the Citi credit card “double browser trick” seems to have changed.  Too early to tell if this deal is really dying, but it certainly seems to have changed.  Read this FT thread for more info, but the main piece of info is not to call to… Read the Rest.

Limited AirTran Flights Now Bookable with Southwest Points/Companion Pass

Recently I saw an interesting thread on Flyertalk by JSteele that highlighted how certain flights operated by AirTran were now not only bookable on the Southwest website with Southwest points, but the Southwest Companion Passes could be used on those flights as well.  I have to admit I haven’t been following the AirTran and Southwest merger as closely as I should, but this definitely caught my eye. So far the… Read the Rest.
