My last post details how you can earn miles through dining at restaurants that participate in the RewardsNetwork program, but since only a handful of restaurants participate in that program, it’s always great to keep your eye open for other ways to earn miles through dining…especially if you eat out as frequently as I do!

The Points Guy shares that American Airlines is currently offering 18 miles per dollar by buying restaurant.com certificates through its shopping portal.  That is a huge amount of miles for the taking!  If you’re unfamiliar with restaurant.com certificates, here’s a quick overview.  You’ll usually pay $10 for a $25 certificate, giving you substantial savings.  However, there are almost always restrictions attached to the certificate, so I view these more as coupons than actual gift certificates.  Each restaurant has a different set of restrictions, but some common ones include a mandatory 18% gratuity on the amount of the bill before the savings certificate, not valid on Friday/Saturdays, or a minimum purchase amount of $35+.  Regardless, you can still save a fair amount of money by using these certificates, and earning 18 AA miles per dollar makes it an even better deal.

The deal gets better because if you purchase a certificate before 12/31 and use promo code SALE at check-out, you’ll get 80% off your order.  That $25 certificate now only costs $2 out-of-pocket, so you can net $23 off your total bill, plus you’ll earn 36 AA miles for the purchase.  Pay for the remainder of your restaurant bill with a miles earning credit card in order to double dip!  There’s a few restaurants in my local area that I’d like to try, so I’ll gladly be buying a few coupons for myself.  Every 36 miles helps :)

If you don’t need AA miles, check EVReward for other options, including 20 Chase Ultimate Reward points per dollar or 30% cashback through Mr. Rebates.
