After lagging the other big hotel chains with a promotional announcement, Hilton has finally filled us in. Their promotion this quarter will only be valid November 1 – December 31, a full month shorter than other hotel chains, which leaves me disappointed even though I didn’t have any October stays planned anyway.
For those two months, you’ll earn a bonus 1,000 Hilton HHonors points per night except for Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Clearly Hilton is marketing away from business travelers who have midweek stays, something that doesn’t impact me but will frustrate a lot of other travelers. Additionally, many properties have chosen not to participate: the list of non-participating hotels is 8 pages long, so don’t count on being able to use this bonus! Finally, you’ll only earn bonus points on a maximum of one room, even if you have multiple rooms linked to your Hilton account.
After a lot of bad news with this promotion, there are a few good things about it. For one thing, there is no cap to the number of bonus points you can earn over the two-month period, so every eligible night will add up. Additionally, all stays (even if booked before registration) will count toward the promotion. The final bit of good news is that this promotion is stackable with other bonuses, such as earning Virgin Atlantic miles on every stay.
Registration is required prior to check-out in order to count toward bonus points, and as always, I recommend registering for the promotion just in case you find yourself staying at a participating hotel on an eligible night. I like the Hilton family of brands quite a bit and might still have a few nights with them this fall, so a few extra points will be nice even if it’s not amazing. However, the amount of fine print attached to this bonus means that when you’re flexible on hotel stays, another hotel chain might end up offering a more lucrative bonus. Instead, take a look at promotions offered at Marriott, Hyatt, IHG, Starwood, or Radisson for your next stay. All of them have more valuable promotions floating around this fall unless you otherwise have a personal preference for Hilton.
