While I doubt I’ll have time for a cruise in the foreseeable future, I was browsing cruises.com last night for the heck of it. I’ve always wanted to do a transatlantic cruise, and I looked up what was available in May of next year (since there’s a small chance I’d have time for one then, but I doubt it). Well, the first option that came up was a 13 day eastbound transatlantic cruise from Miami to Harwich (with stops in Bermuda, Portugal, Spain, and France) on Royal Caribbean’s Jewel of the Seas. For two passengers the total came to $1,293 which is less than $50 per person per day!

Now 13 days is a bit long for my liking, but jeez, $50 a day?!?!? I realize a lot of their money is made off of booze, gambling, etc., but the lowest I typically see is $100 per person per day.

Heck, this might just be a case where staying home is more expensive…. ;)

Some of the Transatlantic cruises are great deals and as disconcerting as it may be to be stuck on a boat for 5 days it’s really relaxing.

Transatlantics (like all repo cruises) are generally cheaper.

Even “luxury” lines can be quite cheap – Regent’s Transatlantics are generally around $2,000.

Hey Lucky, Just flew back from Orlando to SFO today after a 4 day Bahamas cruise on Carnival (my first). Base price was ~$250 pp so we just paid $200 more each and got a stateroom on the top floor with a balcony. It was so sweet! There were daily drink specials and plenty of food. They also had lots of photographers and you could buy the candid shots for around $7 a piece so they make a lot of money there and on shore excursions. We spent around $400 on the boat and were really happy and now we must diet for the rest of the year.

Just want to pass along that I found the deal cruisecompete.com after I read about the site on FlyerTalk. Looking at transatlantics now…cheaper to cruise than to stay home and buy groceries and cook!
