@ Terry -- The ANA tool is great if you know how to use it, and not so great otherwise. The tool is most useful if you search segment by segment. So you need to know what routes are out there, and then search each segment individually to try and piece something together.

How do you search for mileage reservations on the ANA website? I am trying to book a flight JFK - BKK in March, but the ANA site completely baffles me. The customer service is pretty good, but I'd like to play around with different dates/combinations so I'd prefer to do this online if possible. Thanks!

Hey Ben,

I beat you on mileage value -- I posted this in the Amex forum on Flyertalk. I used 17,000 ANA miles plus paid "fees/gas" of $118 to fly HKG-NRT-PEK in ANA Y. These two short flights would have cost close to $1800 if I had to pay for them since intra-Asia fares ex-Tokyo are ridiculously high because of Japanese government restrictions on competition. Value is close to 10 cents a mile.

I don't recommend doing open jaw trips using Tokyo as a hub unless you have to, but the use of ANA miles was pretty much the only lower cost option I could find. Even Japanese consolidator fares were terrible (as they usually are).

ANA is All Nippon Airways, a major Japanese airline. Their mileage program is a part of the American Express Membership Rewards program, which means one can accrue miles with them easily without ever stepping foot on one of their planes.

Absolutely Jamie, you can start and end anywhere. It doesn't have to be ex-US.

I have about 35000 AMEX points to use .... do you know if the award is available from LHR-LAX or even LHR-JFK?
If so, I think I'll have to think about this rather than transferring them to Priority Club.
