The Mileage Plus Visa has a pretty nifty refer-a-friend promotion right now, whereby the referrer gets 15,000 miles and the person referred gets a 30,000 mile sign-up bonus. To take advantage of this offer one has to apply via phone at 877.858.5188 and mention code C7G4, and there’s a limit of two referrals per person.

I just got my first Mileage Plus Visa a bit over a month ago. As many of you probably know, I’m not a huge fan of collecting United miles outside of actually flying with them due to their Starnet blocking. Nonetheless I signed up for three reasons: a) the sign-up bonus is nice, b) all my other cards are either American Express or Mastercard, and it’s useful to have a Visa card for certain promotions that require it, and c) the annual fee is waived for me since I’m a 1K.

Anyway, if you’re thinking of signing up for the card, I’d be eternally grateful if you’d let me refer you. I hate begging on the blog, but for what it’s worth (as I’ve said many times before), I don’t make a cent off of my blog, but of course I do it because I enjoy it. If you’d let me refer you I could at least slightly justify the hundreds of hours of love I’ve poured into the blog to others that tell me to get a minimum wage job instead. ;)

Can this be used for the Platinum Visa as well as the Signature Visa, and other newly introduced cards?

Nice deal for the referrer, but the link says “An annual fee will apply to your Visa account.” So, no waived first year annual fee for the person opening the account?

Is the annual fee waived for the first year? If so, I’m in.

@ chitownflyer — I believe this is just for the Signature card, but I might be wrong.

@ Peter & unavaca — I called and you guys are right, the annual fee is not waived for the first year. It’s typically not waived for the 30,000 mile offer in my experience.

That being said, if you let me refer you I’ll take care of the annual fee for the first year. If anyone’s interested now, shoot me an email at onemileatatime@hotmail.com.

    Lucky,

Can you refer your wife/family members with this program? Would love to pick some extra miles for a trip next year.

    Interesting deal. Hear me out.

I get 30k, the referee gets 15k. Thinking Coupon Connection… what will your offer me in trade for the 15,000 miles you’re about to receive. This isn’t directed at Ben, but the reading audience. I’m not considering this (yet, ) since I blew off the UA card 2 years ago.

@ AnotherUAFlyer — Sure, you should be able to refer your wife or family members with this promotion.

@ Dan — And an excellent point.

    Hey there,

My husband and I are thinking about getting a United Visa Card and now that I read your blog entry, I’m kind of interested in getting referred by you. But I checked the United website and it says that this offer only applies for the Unites Select Visa, which has a annual fee of $130. Plus, if I apply directly through their website, I’ll get the 30.000 bonus miles as well plus a travel certificate. Is there anything I’ve missed or why does it make sense then to get referred? it seems that only the referrer benefits…

    Looking forward to your answer!
